A wish for new Races

While I'll be the first to say that SE is working on the right priorities at the moment, I figured I'd put this idea out there to see what people thought of new races being added into the game later down the line. And what races from the Final Fantasy Multi-verse would you like to see brought into the world of FFXIV.

Now, I know many people, like myself get attached to their character and the idea of getting rid of them might not be something we would want to do, and since we start and have only one character slot, adding in new races might make us feel left out of options later down the line, but that's not the idea behind this topic.

So with that said, I would love to see some of the races from Ivalice make it into the game world:
Bangaa, Viera would be my top pics.

How about you, what races from other FF games (or other games, we don't have to limit it) would you like to see in the game world? Ether as playable, or just as NPCs... After all this is a big world we are talking about and we have only seen a very small part of it. :)

I vote for SE to make the XIV beastmen races, Sahagin, Kobold, Amalj'aa, Goblin, Ixal, Sylph, and Qiqirn. Does anyone else think that this would be really dynamic or that it would just ruin the atmosphere of the game. It's not like the beastmen are the root of evil; they are just protecting their own way of life.

I know it will never happen but it would be really awesome to play as a Amalj'aa. A fully customizable one!

I like the way you think, and while I'm not opposed to the idea, I think you pointed out one of the bigger issues that worries you too. If it would break the atmosphere. I guess we would have to see how they implemented it into the game... Still, over all an interesting idea. :)

I guess beastmen wouldn't have Grand Companies of Eorzea either :P

I would actually like to be a Djinn beast like Ifrit. My god, or should I say, "by the twelve" I love ifrit. Favorite summon, favorite element, and I have a thing for horns. :D

Beastmen and Primals would 100% most certainly not work for XIV simply because of their involvement in the story. The only way it could possibly work is if they're a separate "faction" and there's faction-based PvP, and they can't work with adventurers from the 3 main cities. They are so radically opposed to the main 3 nations that it wouldn't even make sense.

That is not entirely true. While their culture is truly against the cities and the races in them but that doesn't mean that each individual is. In the Gridania story I helped the Sylphs with an empire invasion and I believe that I read somewhere that the goblins once traded with the three cities before packing up and disappearing.
It is not entirely impossible that a goblin or sylph would defect to a city out of differing beliefs or fear of death from their own society.

It be nice if SE add two new race along side with the missing race male and female for the ps3 release it would give more life to FFXIV. Right now it's not that hard to have new race just say they came from a new land or someshit lol

I personally would like to see some kind of anthropomorphic wolf or something in the game. They seem to be rare in games (especially if you DON'T want an over sized brute, I would prefer something between Hyur and Miqote). Even though in the few MMOs I have played with them in it they seem to be fairly to highly popular and could be a draw for some people. If you want back story for them you could say they were enslaved by the Garlean Empire and their movement into Eorzea has given them a chance to escape and move into the city states of the land.

And Maybe even make a playable Moogle race. Basing their design on FFXII's design could make a fun character. And they would be a great draw for people who want to play as something that's cute and fluffy (darn you mogs and your quirky cuteness) as for lore: In times of crisis Moogles will take younger members of their race and using their incredible magical powers, change them into something that has a better chance at combat with the empire.

Another race I think would be interesting is a dragon man type race with scaled skin (with scale ridges and such), that are tall and have lanky limbs, yet still look powerful. Something that looks kinda scary and evil would be great for people who want a really dark and intimidating character. As for lore for them you could say they were for a long time held in the volcanic regions of the land by the Hellsguard Roegadyn who believe them to be some sort of evil (though their love for combat and killing doesn't help their case) With the new threat of the Empire the Hellsguard decide that they are a lesser evil and allow some free in exchange for their loyalty during the war.

I think these Ideas would be great additions to the game. And the more diversity and differences in the races the more people the game will interest. Their are many things that need fixing with the game but don't forget the improtance of having a character that you like. If you can't make a character you really bond with you lose a part of the game, a part that makes you come back to play it again and again.

Oh it would definitely be fun to see some of the other classic races, wouldn't it? Viera, or at least, something Viera-like, would certainly fit into Eorzea, I think.

I would prefer races from Ivalice over FF11 and 14 anytime. Why didn't they use setting of Ivalice for the online game.
But anyway i would like to play as a Moogle and have the class of a Moogle Knight like in FF Tactics Advance.
Even a Viera. But what can we do now the races are set and could ruin the atmosphere of the game.

I must admit, I often wonder why they haven't used Ivalice for an MMO .. I certainly hope the Company system eventually evolves into something like the companies of Ivalice.

All said, however, I do hope they stick to Final Fantasy-esque races, and the series' habit of putting new and FF-like spins on old concepts when it doesn't make something completely new. I think I'd very likely quit in a moment, if we suddenly found ourselves faced with .. I don't know, whatever the blanket term is for the overly macho anthropomorphic races Western MMO's seem to be enamoured with these days.

I have my human and I don't want to make a new character, so I wouldnt use the new race(s) but it'd be cool to see

You do understand that if they add 2 new race + the male and female race we missing for ps3. They would allow everyone 1 free switch race for a limit time only. Then it could cost money to switch race which i hoping they have in this game not everyone want to be the same race for 6+years.

I for one going to enjoy my race for 6+years but others wont like a switch now and then.

To be honest the sound of the this game going changes to the PS3 sounds to far away and i guess that they only release the PS3 version when they are satisfied with all the and updates. but also adding another free character slot can't hurt them for new races, look at guild wars they offer 1 or 2 character slot per expansion. So if they do add new races a new they could give us 1 more free character slot. But also if they make new races be for the PS3 release at leaste we wont be just seeing cat girls running al over the place which I see a lot in this game.

they can just give us a free race switch FFXI and FFXIV is about one char does it all type of thing. But yes it would help the cat girls problem -.- 50% cats 20% humes 15%lala 15% other

I think that would be the best option for players who didn't want to re-roll once the new genders came out and same thing for the races.

I love the wolf-man type idea, and perhaps they will model the male - mi'quot (sp?) after that...

Someone on another post in another area talked about adding the Qurgin (again sp?) that are already in game...

The idea of a wolf-man sounds too plain for Final Fantasy and Mi'quot are no different, stick ears on any female char and make them look cute and bam instant fans of that race which most players on this game is (yes I am one my self). What happend to the male of Mi'quot and the female Roegadyn?
