Back around the time I was working on my first title, we had some major issues crop up towards the end of development. It was just a small team of us. About 10 total. Only two programmers though, myself being one of them. Due to how many hours I had been pulling, and the sheer frustration, it about brought me to tears. I've said to several of my friends, during various tirades that the truth of the matter is likely that the developers have reached the point of tears due to how things have been going. This problem is exponentially worse than what I was facing at that time. I can't help but feel for them.
The venom that has been coming out of our community is shameful. I get the "we're the customer!" stuff, but being a customer does not, in any way, give anyone the right to lash out in such a fashion. Expressing your feelings is one thing, but personal attacks are down right juvenile, and as above, quite sad.
Except, there have been personal attacks.

I actually agree with OP. I mean this poor guy is working his arse off for us and what do we get to show our appreciation? Complaint after complaint. Yes, I know we paid for it and no, I'm not saying to take the game how it is. No, I do agree some of you guys. We paid for this game and we do deserve a good product. The thing is that the game is complete and it's an amazing game, it's the servers that's the problem. They didn't think we were going to like this game, they didn't anticipate this many NA/ EU gamers and as such the servers started to act up. But I think all the negativity coming from our side of the server is really hurting their morale. I think if we show them a bit of support from us, it can make them feel that finishing this game for us is worth it. So if this makes me a "White Knight" for defending them, then I'm DAMNED proud to be one. Because I know that a bit of support can help them in the long run, because I think they need it...
EDIT:
I think we should flood the English Forum with GOOD threads, show the team how supportive we are of them. Also, if we do this, DO NOT answer or reply to any people who want to fight. Just keep posting good things!
What's with people and the need to tell everyone they're ashamed of their Community based on the Rage that is currently going on.
Here are 2 facts
1. Every Gaming Community reacts the same.and if there is a smooth Start, there will Be something else to bitch about.
2. You don't have to read these boards if the mere sight of a bitch/hate/disappointed thread grinds you gears.
Either deal with it or do something Else with your free time, easy as that
I feel for Yoshida and his team because of the amount of work they have put into the game. But the complaints that are occurring now are something that developers of all sorts have to develop thick skin on. Its not personal against Yoshida because of who he is but what his job is. At the end of the day it is Yoshidas job as producer to ensure that players are able to play the game. And right now due to technical issues players can't play the game. As much as Yoshida and his team are probably freaking out, it shows a lot of what they have done for SE, FF as a title, and the amount of interest they have been able to generate into the remaking of the game when there is and was the massive amount of damage that the original version of this game caused to not only SE as a company but FF as one of its Flagship titles.(As well as the importance of the FF title itself to SE) As hard as it may be for Yoshida right now he should be proud that he has as many angry people as there is over the current issues. He has made people who wouldn't have even cared about the game from what 1.0 was care and want to play what he has made 2.0 into.
They released a product to international consumers. This isn't personal, its business. No matter how much you or anyone else may want people to stop complaining the simple fact is this: People have purchased a product and are unable to use that product. They can not play an alternative measure by playing offline or under alternative means without going against exactly what SE has asked them not to do.(Which is asking the NA/EU server players to not play on the JP servers)
And angry people say stupid shit? That doesn't change anything. WoW developers and producers have been dealing with it for 9 years, and the EQ developers before then, and the Never Winter Nights developers before even then. Angry people say stupid shit. Its a fact of life. You can't really lump everyone into a category because select people go to a sever and start making jokes about WWII or attack a developer. Because if thats the standard then it has to work both ways for SE showing favoritism to its JP community which was more then proven in FFXI. In WoW a Community Manager by the name of Tseric literally had to quit his job or was fired because he couldn't handle dealing with the community and that was back, way back, before TBC was even in the works.
I didn't recall saying they made the request based on language. I believe they made the request to limit the amount of excess traffic on the JP servers that would hinder that portion community from accessing the Data Center that is for that portion of the community. NA/EU players just as the JP players prefer to play within there own language restrictions. (<--- This is worded poorly. The point is regardless of cross communication or comparability for language of the game players are naturally going to segregate themselves to their own communities.) And hey I will even throw in the obligatory I'm not sure if that was actually said so I may be wrong on that. But either way it still doesn't change the point of what I was saying. The NA/EU community would have to compete with the JP players for there Data Center slots and server access (which would be a major issue) in order to have access to the game. And considering that there are more players locked out from playing then there are those capable of playing or actively playing, yes, the issue remains the same.Quote:

And I may be wrong but I do believe the Peak times for the JP servers and NA/EU servers do overlap. So all it potentially does is expand the issue to another Data Center.
Yoshi you are my hero! Take it easy brother <3
yeah I remember FFXI's community. Very seldom would I not get help from someone if I didn't know something in game and was confused. Even in game people are just bashing one another in shouts when someone asks a question. I've blacklisted alot of people in game due to the fact I don't want their negativity around me. If someone asks about something either respond with the answer to the best of your knowledge or just ignore the question. No need for "Quit being a crybaby and just walk north you spoon fed whiner" that's a quote from today when I asked what was next after my completed quest because on the right of my screen was not the usual "click here and the location will be shown" quest text. I've never shown malice to someone in game until that moment.
We should make a big thread showing how much we still support him and his team. He is very passionate about the game and we all know he won't back down till servers are stable.
He got really emotional at the end, and recounted the past 3 years and then apologized for the NA/EU data center troubles and repeat maintenances, etc.
As for my comment at the end, I was watching that stream after seeing some topics on these forums, like:
and this thread http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...-taken-to-well.
Don't be part of the problem by generalizing that Americans fans are entitled. It's not helpful for the community to divide itself by turning on other fans.
Hopefully the launch servers falling over means that FFXIV is getting way more attention than expected.
I haven't been able to play as much as I wanted, but the game is pretty good. The launch problems will be fixed soon enough.
We love you Yoshi-P. Ignore the haters. You and your team did an amazing job on this game and I don't mind waiting a few days or weeks just for the server to get up to par. I've waited over a year for the relaunch and I don't mind waiting a bit longer. At least I can hop in the game now ^_^
Yoshi, I will support you and your team 100%. You have provided us your amazing game we want it to be. You really made most of us very happy and we love you.
All I can say is I very much appreciate everything Yoshida and his team has done and are doing. Every Online Game has it's launch issues, people just need to learn to be patient and understand that they are doing what they can to fix any issues they may have. I've been disgusted for the most part with what the vocal gaming community has become. I mean sure, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but isn't there a saying similar to " If you can't say anything nice, don't bother saying anything at all"? There is a difference between constructive criticism and complaining/whining.
I am very much enjoying my time here, even with the hiccups. I don't foresee myself going anywhere anytime soon, and I look forward to seeing what Yoshida brings to us from here on out. :) Keep up the good work Yoshi-P and team!~ :3

Well, that picture makes me feel really bad. :(
It's unfortunate that people,in their anger, forget that others around them are capable of being affected by the kind of scathing language they throw around so quickly. It's worth remembering that, despite the problems, there are a whole lot of people who poured their blood, sweat, and tears, and every ounce of their being into making this game what it is and it's important to recognize and appreciate that (especially so when you feel upset).
Edit: I feel the need to include that I've been having an absolute blast with the game, and I really see myself sticking around for years to come. It's the Final Fantasy community that really gave me my fondest memories from FFXI, and I've been missing that for the longest time now. I personally feel like Yoshida-san and the team at Square-Enix have done an incredible job turning this game around; it's something that has been completely unprecedented in the industry thus far, and that so many doubted was even possible. It won't be the perfect game for everyone, nor should it be expected to be, but I'm really happy with how everything has turned out and I'm very much looking forward to the next week or two as all this stuff gets smoothed out. Thanks to everyone involved in this project at Square-Enix for taking a risk and giving back to your players!
it's just like all of the people saying they cancelled their preorders when they encountered a gamebreaking bug during the beta instead of reporting it and letting the team fix it.
They're self entitled manbabies, if they DO quit, we get better server stability as a result. No great loss, the silent majority will continue to play.
Poor guy has been working his butt off and all he wants is for everyone to enjoy his game and as far as I am concerned he has done an amazing job .When you see how much the game and the players mean to him you can't help but feel the Arr is in good hands.
My only worry is Yoshi-P works himself to death
Give the man a holiday
I'd gladly tell you that. But truthfully I think both you and I know that'd be a lie. Square Enix is dealing the exact same style of community as many other MMO's have head to deal with over the past years. The mindset of players has changed so deeply, it's astonishing. No longer is it expected for game developers to develop a game. It is much more common to expect them to cater a tailor-made product. Shouting the loudest has proven succesful in getting exactly that done, and as such shouting the loudest is what an increasing number of players insist on doing.
Nothing in all of this is new, nothing is going to change. And if the current trend continues, it only promises to get even worse in the future.
This is my first FF game i ever played, and i'm not a big poster on a forum, but i must say this game has been amazing and really addicting.
I had the same start up issues as everyone else this weekend, but i don't get what the problem is, you should expect people get used to it by now, heck even my gf who doesn't play mmo's saw me trying to log in multiple times, and knew that was normal for a starting mmo(seen me doing that more than once when a mmo launches ;) )
I can't even imagine the amount of stress he and his team have been under these last several months leading up to now, what with all of the insane amounts of traveling, PR, long nights, and finally trying to meet the flawless, yet unlikely expectations that so many have had during this launch.
To be met with the vitriol that's been pouring out of the English-speaking community is really shameful. If that image of Yoshi really is a result of finally caving under all of that pressure and negative response, then congratulations, ladies and gents. Maybe now we can all be reminded that this machine of a man that's worked tirelessly for the past two years is actually a human being.
Rocky launch or not, I'm utterly embarrassed by the lack of decency and maturity that the FF online community has previously been so lauded for.
Yoshi and team, i love you and thumbs up for all the hard work you guys put in. Problems always come in life in many aspects but ...will go away eventually. Winers ignore them and also the negative people. I had sooo much fun in ffxi for more then ten years and enjoyed ffxiv 1.0 and all the betas ffxiv arr and will continue to do so.
Greetz from a Big Dutch fan!!! I have faith in you and will always do!
You mean the bitching about jumping, the bitching about the game not being grind-focused, the bitching over not directly copying FFXI, and the bitching about the damn grass didn't make you ashamed of being part of this community? You're made of stern stuff, OP.
The thing is that people have taken the "once bitten, twice shy" approach to this game. While some apprehension is justifiable, I've not been of the type that'll fly off the handle if there's issues. I may be minorly annoyed at the whole "people can't plan ahead on a server because they're all full" thing, but I'm not going to froth at the mouth over it.Quote:
Boohoo, honestly, most MMO launches have problems. There are some that have less, but most WILL have issues.
Another argument that I know will pop up is "This is a re-release of an already released game, should have been perfect." No, it's a completely re-made game, a BRAND NEW game. New infrastructure, engine, everything, minus Lore.
I feel for Yoshi-P on the side of a man that put blood sweat and tears into something only to run into roadblocks like what's been troubling the NA servers. While I have my conspiracy theories for everything that's happened this past month, I won't divulge and simply stick around to give what support I can. I just hope this hasn't made Yoshida reluctant to openness with the community because of the collective hissy fit the NA playerbase has thrown, and instead wish this gets resolved soon enough that we and Yoshi-P can put it all behind us.
Just hang in there Yoshi-P! You guys can fix the servers, just look at what you did with Final Fantasy XIV 1.0.
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.
Problem is they did everything right up to phase 4 the open beta , That should have been 2 weeks long. They messed up on three very basic thing that mmo's in last few years have been doing to reduce the stress and frustrations, of users. 1. A good PR team in place. People do like to be informed on what is going on. And what is being fixed. Even ff11 does a good job on that game. On the maintence. 2. No back up servers set up or rented, And many people have no problems in long query while a game launches, Just the way that set up looking like the game is broken. 3. A unrestricted forum some where , so people can post bugs or other stuff. That actually got devs and maybe players moderators. Instead of some other websites forums. Extra credit would let us know that they got some more outside support helping , even if not true.
I think Mr.Happy would beg to differ with you over your opinion of the current issues in the game. The last FFXIV Reborn he was in with on xiivnation/gamebreaker he wasn't all to pleased with the current issues. Along with one other host of the show, who is not Garry Gannon, who wasn't to pleased with the issues. And both or at least Mr.Happy are Legacy Players.
We are incredibly lucky to have Yoshi-P & the rest of the dev team who obviously are so committed and passionate. The game is absolutely incredible and I have no doubt that the future is very bright. Sure it is a rough launch but the servers will become stable eventually.
I'm sure the vast majority of players are extremely grateful to the dev team.
We love you Yoshi-P!!!
Abariel just posted an article on the livestream with the video included, for anyone interested:

I'm glad the press is showing his support to Yoshi and the team too.
I just don't understand why people can not deal with inaccessibility. I totally understand it's devastating for some that was really looking forward to playing and keeps getting error. It's perfect understandable to be upset, but why the rage? Why do people get so aggressive for something like this and starts insulting people personally. Example of this behavior is the people that made characters on JP servers and started harassing and shouting disgusting racist messages on their servers.
People always bring up the "I paid for this game" or one way or another bring up money in their argument. Well if you're so sensitive about losing a couple of bucks, don't spend money on an MMO to start with. People act as if losing 1-2 dollar is worthy of personal insults to a group of people that have put down a lot of hard work for 3 years to bring enjoyment to people all over the world then have the misfortune to stumble upon multiple server issues that they're working around the clock to fix.
Seriously... just calm the F down and learn how to deal with inaccessibility in a different way. Stop spreading all that doom and gloom.
Sorry for the rant, I just wanted to get that out because I'm disgusted by the extreme egocentric personality in people. They care not one bit about all those people involved into making the game, they act as if SE doesn't deserve a penny unless their game works 100% perfectly.
the game is working fine zero issues today. i get DF partys no problem, no class quest locking up before a instance. one thing they cant fix are some peoples attitudes where everything has to be a put down.
about an hour ago on sargtanas war behemoth FATE poped up and there was more people then the engine can draw and no errors.
They've already come along way since 1.0. The game is awesome, there is just an issue with the logins and the server capacity, those will eventually get worked out. Yes it's unfortunate and annoying, maybe even infuriating, but things take time. This beats the hell out of returning to FFXI to stand in my MH because I only have good instead of great equipment. I think Yoshi-P has done well. The complaints on this forum and the beta forums before them are usually pointless and asinine. If Yoshi-P is reading, I'd urge him to not let those complaints and personal attacks bother him.
Do i think it is unacceptable that people could not log into the game for nearly 2 days? Yes, I do think that. Could they have done things better for NA/EU servers? Yes, I do think they could have. I also fully understand that issues can always happen and will happen during a launch of a MMO. Therefor I do understand I might get lag or will be unable to play the whole day. The fact that I could not play for two whole days is sour, but it is not the end of the world. I will however never personally attack a developer with personal insults, death threats etc. That is just low, in fact it is more then low, it is down right horrible, insulting and dumb.
I would think that most of us are adults and thus we can communicate our problems towards the Developers in adult way.
I cried with him because I was so ashamed of myself. In the end I couldn't hold it and I lashed out.
It shows he's trying his damnedest to give us a game that we all can enjoy together.
I couldn't agree more with the OP. But we do need to realize something: this is the internet. People tend to turn into ... horrible, terrible creatures ... when they are on here. It's the anonymity, the ease of not having to actually face someone while you insult them and say horrendous things. It brings out the worst in people.
I, too, sincerely hope this community can recover.

It's perfectly normal to feel frustrated and angry, but lashing out and scapegoating as if Yoshida and the devs are just faceless corporate monkeys isn't right. He's been very accessible since he took this project over, and has always considered the playerbase. Yet, a lot of people were quick to lose their shit and throw angry personal attacks at him. Shit happens, deal with it. This guy, and the dev team, need some fkin beers and a month long vacation lol.
To Yoshi and the Devs
I'm not going to sit here and lie, me like many others have raised my voice at some of the decisions made by you guys. But its not because I hate the game, far from it, I LOVE THIS GAME. I only want this game to succeed were others have failed, I know how much work you guys have put into it.
So with that out of the way I needed to think up a phrase that best describe you and what you have done for this game yoshi. I decided on using something with a bit of English Slang and coin this phrase out for you, so here goes.....
YOU DA MAN !
