Just a friendly reminder, you're primary role is healing. In almost half of my dungeon runs conjurors have completely forgotten to heal and had the part wiped out.
Eh, just ranting i guess.

So Cleric Stance and spam stone right?
But nah seriously, even my friend was complaining how much he hates doing dungeons without me. Apparently it's pretty bad, and these dungeons are practically afk'able atm.
Hehe I rarely do any damage during dungeons as a Conjuror but then I'm not new to MMO's and I'm fairly lazy so those are definite factors ;)
both runs i've done so far i've gotten pretty lucky with my tank and my conj, as all 4 did excellent jobs, but I feel your pain man.
If we only had some good protectors as well so that we could keep healing :p.
Im so bored when I play cnj I have to use stone. Especially when there is a thm sleeping stuff or you are on the last 2 mobs of a trash pack. Bosses however...ya ill stay focused on cure until I can use instant raise at lvl 28 cnj...ya swiftcast from thm ftw.
Ouch such unfortunate for you. I'm a conjurer and I gotta admit it's pretty boring during weak mobs pack so I usually spamming some stones while keeping an eye out for tank's health
My main complaint is being in groups with ACN as a CNJ... they continually try to heal, but I'm the main healer, darnit. :P
You're right. But CNJs who just cure are mediocre too (when the tank isn't absolute s***). Switching Cleric Stance on and off and nuking a bit between cures if everything is fine, sleeping some adds when you don't have a THM in your group, keeping Regen up always on tank, finding time to Stoneskin the DPS and yourself during tough fights...there's plenty to do. Too many CNJs just don't give a damn about that, it's a pity since it's a role full of potential.
friendly reminder as well that when someone does a dungeons for the first time, a message tell you so
if you know the dungeons or know the game mechanics, please take the time to tell people how to do, especially on the lower level dungeon
people are playing alone most likely until those dungeon so they might not know how to do their job properly
please take time to explain instead of complaining post-wipe
it really takes about a minute, it will make your experience more enjoyable and they will learn what is expected of them
thank you ^^
I think a good player, regardless which job they play, knows how to adjust to the situation.
Like some posters have said, there is no point for a CNJ to just stand around if there is no need for healing for the moment.
Healer role is one of the most important roles in any game so I would hope people who choose to step into these big shoes, know their responsibility. Same goes for the tanks. Without a good tank or a good healer, there is no party.
My friend constantly tells me that I'm to heal and that's it. I can understand that statement somewhat as my job as a healer is to heal, but as mention by Nibelung beforehand there is a lot I as a CNJ can do to assist ones own party. Sadly no matter I try to tell him otherwise he turn slightly a deaf ear at me.
I've yet to get my copy of the game so I can't continue my progress of finding a good balance to when I should focus on heal and find windows to assist with Cleric Stance and the like.
Guess from my experience that my only complaint are when all the party members take damage. I'm guessing it's merely a bad tank but I have a lot to do when I got three rather than one to heal and sometimes it has happened one or two has fallen as I was not quick enough to help.
Thankfully being a healer in FFXIV ARR is fun and I will strive towards to become one of the best healers, in Odin at least.
My play style is heal-bot but if everyone is topped off I will throw a quick DoT on a boss mob (Really need to get some cross spells). So far I haven't made it into TTD but I'm getting close and in Guildhests I've received a compliment or two. Haven't unlocked sleep yet but obviously I'll use that to mine and my parties advantage.
At the end of the day it's all about that healer pride. Love playing support.
I am a healer and a good one at that I hope. But I feel that I can still dps when*my party is not in need of my healing skills
If everyone's topped off, the adds are asleep and Protect/Stoneskin's up on everyone I'll throw a quick Aero onto the main target but I'm not going to all-out attack - I figure people are going to be more angry if I run out of MP at a critical moment because I spammed Stone than they are if I hang back and "just" make sure everyone's alive.
True, but it's not impossible - especially when everyone's learning and/or readjusting to ARR. I don't think anyone can really make a fair complaint about a healer spending most of their time healing, and it's clear to me from the abilities WHM is given that they are in no way an effective DD class - emergency or otherwise.
No harm in adding some DPS as long as:
- Wait until tank has agro on mobs
- Attack same target tank is attacking
- Watch out for big pulls or spike damage that will require your full healing
- Watch your MP
- Always get out of the red
Folks, please mind your agro while doing so. Can't create a thread so I'm writing this here:
Overheal in this game creates ENMITY.
Had to take this out of my system when I ran copperbell mines and healer was healing me for 200+ with my health full while my savage blade was doing less than 50 damage (he was a few levels above me). Yes, that means that once a boss got loose, there was nothing I could do to take agro back even with my wildest combos there was no way I could steal agro from the healer.
While we're having a whinge; can I just say to non-healers... please remember to keep in my LINE OF SIGHT! I can't heal people I can't see, and if everyone's running off in different directions not only have I got no hope of healing you but I'm also standing stock still somewhere that'll probably be really *really* dangerous to my white-covered backside very soon too!
It's times like these that I actually feel pretty good about my healing. I'm not particularly good at it, but the game is pretty easy right now so it isn't very stressful. But knowing there are masses of people doing a worse job than me is, sadly, kind of uplifting. Ha!
My first run through Tam the other day I let our tank die because I pressed the wrong button (damn you huge GCD). There is a pull that has some high burst from some mage like mobs. The tank took some big damage right off the bat and I had to chain a couple of cures together to keep him up, but that pulled the attention of some of the group so they started firing off some Thunders on me. When I was down to about 150 and the tank at about half and not wanting to get the rest of the pack too angry, I decided he would probably live for 2.5 more seconds while I cure myself.
Oops.
I ended up tanking the rest of the fight with Cure and Medica spam while the DPS took them down. Felt terrible.
Allso had a huge brainfart in that same run when I guess I clicked on the field (I haven't created mouse-over Cures yet, not sure if I will) and was trying to Cure the tank during a mini-boss fight. I started chain casting because I couldn't figure out why he wasn't getting topped off. Started thinking I was being outpaced but that just couldn't be. I then realized I didn't have him targeted when he was below 100 HP and running from the boss. He recovered well enough.
Maybe I should stick to tanking...
Wait I'm not suppose to spam stone and only heal using medica? Wow.
I know in OB, first Satasha run I did was full of dc's, but last healer I had, though new, was spectacular while me (ARC), a LNC and him 3-manned it til we all dc'd. The second time I ran Satasha our tank dc'd early on, so I got the ACN to summon Topaz Carby and we had our CNJ. That was the laziest healer I have ever partied with in an MMO. I, the Archer, who had equipped conjurer abilities, had to continually stop DD'ing, so I could heal Carby. He did let Carby die at one point while I was dealing with adds on a boss.
I realize there aren't many abilities for conjurer at low level, especially if you haven't leveled any other classes for their abilities. While I'm not new to MMOs, I am pretty new to healing, but the DD should not be healing and carrying the party. This is common gamer sense. I really hope I don't have many more experiences like the one above.
I was wanting to go Bard for support AND damage, but since that aspect has been greatly changed I may switch to a pure healing/support role. Those who are on my first dungeon runs will be my guinea pigs while I learn healing. I will try my best and hope I don't get too much abuse for my mistakes, heh. I have already healed on many low level FATES throughout phases 3 & 4 and EA, but I know dungeons are a whole other beast.
If anyone has any advice I would very much appreciate it. Thank you :)
When healer begin cast their heals or other personal buffs, you could see an arrow, like those which you see when agro mobs, but this ones painted white. So DPS actually see if healer healing em, otherwise it's their fault.
Didn't happened to me much to see people, who manage run off tho (during beta i were playing CNJ).
I can't imagine conjurers joining parties and not healing.
I had a tank and 2 DD's yesterday all get wiped out by standing in an exploding bomb, I was the only one who got out of the red circle... they all got one-shot.
Then the tank blamed me for not healing.
It goes both ways, people never perceive they did anything wrong.
Not saying that's what happened in the OP's case, but certainly there are a lot of people new to MMO's that could use some guidance.
At the end of the day, it's just a game, it's fun, and without failures the accomplishments wouldn't feel as good. :)
I feel that if someone sees a healer messing up, or not paying attention, or some other faulty-thing, then a polite message couldn't hurt. For instance, FFXIV is one of the few times I chose to heal over playing a DPS role and I know I'm not perfect at it (No deaths/wipes yet, but I spaced out once or twice and didn't notice our Arcanist getting attacked by random mob #4, coulda fixed his/her/hir's issues with some more heals tossed their way... but didn't notice until the flashy bar ran across my screen >.>) buuut, for times like that I wouldn't have been against a message that provided a tip for quickly swapping to other people/something. (like the F-keys, or where to re-bind them)
I dunno, I just feel doing that in the situation/moment would be the better idea. At least then you're helping someone become better at the game, and if you're paired with them again, they'll be a better healer that time through. :>
Better learn the job early becuse higher lvl dungeons are no joke for healers.
I am sorry for all groups who have a healer that wants to focus on doing dmg as opposed to healing. I for one focus on healing, CC, then the dps spell. During the first three dungeons they were mainly tank and spank so I did a lot more dps, but when it comes to Haukke and beyond... CC is really a must and so I do my best to balance between healing and CC. So far only one wipe on my first run ever of Haukke where none of us in the group had done it before so that was an interesting learning experience lol. I was almost able to keep us all up through the lanterns and all the adds DD's but I got targetted by all the adds and once and I was the first to go boom lol.
I agree with the others though, always say something if you are the tank or the dd and aren't getting heals when you should be. Just make sure you are polite about it and also do us healers a favor and move out of graphics. Don't make our job harder just because you want more dps. It is unfair to us and makes us have to work twice as hard just so that you don't blame us for your death when you got killed by graphics!
I really think you should be utilizing everything you can if it's appropriate for a situation. Find a balance of healing and doing damage if you have time between heals, CC when you need to. There's no reason to ever just stand there and not be casting anything unless what you're fighting is very MP intensive.
+1
Healing would be easy if the DPS played perfectly and never got hit, but they always make mistakes (which I cant afford to make, btw), so Im juggling dodging all the boss mechanics, keeping the DPS from dying, and still somehow healing the tank, who is taking the bulk damage of the boss
And then there is also the usual DPS dying in boss fight, and me having to find an opening so I can have enough time to cast Raise (8 seconds) without getting the tank killed
After my Garuda fight yesterday I just had to get up and chill for half an hour, it was so intense I was about to explode... And it was just normal mode, lol
I tend to main heal/tank any pugs. The actual tank off-tanks one mob/boss while I deal with the rest. Thinking of letting tanks drop to 40% before first heal instead of 60%. Oh, and god forbid I unluckily get a critical heal.
My largest gripe has to be running all pugs with 2 Arcanists, a tank and myself. I never seem to get the more healer oriented gear as it is needed on by DPS. And I am too nice to need on crit/accuracy gear.
After unlocking the WHM, I gave up on the class as time spent did not see any reward.
Yeah i agree with yuren it's actually a really exciting class if u play like that, you have to be fast and react fast to pull it off it pays off great to the group and they notice and most of the time will thank you for working so hard; although dont get carried away as u mp bar cold awkwardly run out lol
I played the Copper Mines this morning, the 3rd time I've played healer. This is the first game I've played that role. I had a great party. 2 died do to getting one hitted, and didn't blame me. I just raised them and got them back up. Tank actually said he liked me. I use the custom target system on PS3 controller, L1 + x is for party. I was healing all 3 in one crazy fight with tons of monsters. Also kept pulling lots of hate while healing. It was fun. I love healer.
