Should I give up on trying to play today?

I've been trying to log back in for over 3 hours now and I still get the 1017 error.

I don't see a time table on when they are going to allow more people to log-in. Should I just give up trying to log in today?

Yeah I wouldn't bother, even if you do get on so many people get booted just zoning..

I am going to assume the FFXIV servers won't be fully operational for about another 2 weeks.

I give up for today, and maybe tomorrow..
Spamming for 3 hours just to get a 9k disconnect error after playing 1 hour just doesn't tickle my fancy.

Yeah, let it go. I've been doing other stuff all day but checking in every few hours and it's been the same all day. Infuriating.

So the error says to wait for an opening and then try again. Is SE going to call my cell to let me know when there is an opening? Should they buy those pager things like at the restaurants that light up and vibrate to let you know when it is your turn? WTF SE, I preordered solely for the early access that was promised and so far between maintenance and server is full, I haven't gotten the early access I purchased. This was to be inclusive with the rest of the game or else I could have just waited and got the game at or after release.

I gave up a long time ago. Though an alternate solution if you're really fiending to play is to create a character in the JP datacenter and play from there. Yes it's a hinderance to the progression of your main character, but at least you'll get the opportunity to mess around and stuff. There's a little lag, but better to have lag than the server full, at least for right now.

The "Ifrit Eruption" people, or the "Fall Damage" people would beg to differ but ...eh.

i'm giving up right now actually. I'll try tomorrow but this guy has Med class in the morning and I very much doubt anyone will want to see a tired med student. Will try again tomorrow

If you think you can play before at least August 31, you are probably delusional.

Yeah I'm just going to try again tomorrow. I'm a little tired of continuously banging my head against a wall for one day.

I'm more surprised at the people it hasn't affected.

But the forums are working faster at this particular moment at least! I think we'll just have to wait until next week to finally play.
