Find the silence very odd

I've played a lot of MMOs, including FFXI, and really find the silence rather eerie. There is so little chat, is no one playing when I am (Australian time) or most are treating this as a solo game?

on some serves the population got low. You should join some LS if you want more interaction
(you can join more than 1 LS btw)

There is no Barrens Chat. RAGEQUIT!

Some of the reasons theres so little chat is because there is no auto attack yet and the timer while crafting doesn't allow it or you'll botch your synth. No search feature also makes it hard to team up. Also not as many people are still playing since launch.

Everyone talking on Vent,TS2/3 or mumble lol when i play beta i was like wow... no one talk maybe because ppl are beta testing but it the same in release most LS do talk a lot tho.

What the hell are you talking about? Its easy to type while crafting and there IS a search feature and IMO its a better search than 11. The only problem is that no one uses it.

lol this search feature sucks so bad and typing while crafting is sloppy. You can either try to type what you want to say before the timer is up and end up with only half of what you typed out posted or you can wait till your done with your synth and make whats on your mind seem like an afterthought to everyone else.

You can't even search names can you?

Also people will most likely start typing more once we get auto attack. At least I will :)

It's not so bad once you know how to use it, although nobody bothers because it takes too long to set up.

I've reached rank50 with my lancer and I were always able to chat, no1 is gonna kill you if you stop spamming for a few seconds (also because if you spam normal attacks you're not helpful AT ALL)

I've reached rank50 carpenter and if I couldn't chat while grinding I would have already killed myself.

The only reasone for the silence is the fact that always more people is quitting the game, even those that enjoied the gameplay are quitting for the lack of contents and the fact that the servers went down for a few days gave them the deathblow.
When the servers where more populated it wasn't this quiet.

Ehm... you know that if you type something > press esc > press "standard synth" > press spacebar > press UP you get back what you wrote? Come on, don't whine if it's just you being dumb...

Yeah, People are quitting FFXIV for the lack of content and lack of functionality.

And you think that's a fluid system...? how about making is so synthing doesn't interfere with chat at all?

This a thousand times over. Maybe try typing faster than 2 words a minute and it shouldn't be hard

People dont chat because there is no reason to talk .
In every MMO up to this day there would be thins to do were you would require others to do it.
In here what do we have,

-leves.
Solo or with linkshell leve link.No need to shout.
-Party grind.
The ammount of SP compared to leve link is so small people barely do it.
-NMs,
No1 would do those with random people.

So you see there is no reason to talk,other than socialize and complain.As soon as there are plenty of thins to do , people will be talkative.Until then only silence will remain outside of linkshell chat.

And how would you do it? the only chance to do it is by making synthesis performable only via mouse, but that's a stupid restriction, plus if people can't use normal attacks and think about the next action, or type, synth and type again I don't expect them to be enough multitasking to type with the keyboard and synth with the mouse at the same time.
You definitely can chat and synth/fight, if you're not able to do it that's another problem and it's not the game's fault.

Oh no wait... there is another way! They could bring back the old FFXI crafting system! :D ok, so your attempt to make this a "I love AA" thread has failed, let's try to make it a "bring back FFXI" one.

^This too is very much the reason for silence.

I wonder if they brought exp chaining back on mobs outside of leves with a bonus which would equate to that of leve links and/or aspect if more people would do grinding parties.

Iunno, grinding isn't that bad, it definitely isn't anywhere near the 60-90k in 1-1/2hr to 2hrs every leve reset, but it's a good consistent 18-24k an hr.

I'd still welcome back exp chaining though hehe

Are you low level? People basically don't group at all until level40 leves at ~35 for some unknown reason. Go to uldah and spam shout if you're 23+ and link some 30 leves. If you're not 23, go do behest until 20. It takes less than a day to go 1-20 doing behest/leves.

It really upset me that no one grouped and just solod when I was leveling up too, then once I was able to do 40 leves I noticed EVERYONE groups and pretty much no one solod anymore. Leve linking 30 leves is just as good as 40 ones, so I don't get why people don't party for them :/

I pug leves 100% of the time and always get 8 people. I spam shout and use the party search function, so this is wrong imo. Leve linking should always be done, even in complete pugs.

Yes, I am low level atm - which is why I was asking. There seem to be people in the area but even when I have asked a question about something (after having looked on the net and got no answer) I very rarely get a reply.

Also - re the Barrens chat - not looking for that lol - but the game is SO quiet compared to any of the other dozen or so MMOs I have played (some of those for many years).

But thanks for all the discussion in reply to my post - lots of food for thought.

How low level? 1-20 takes a day like I said, get to about 25 or 23ish then you can party off leve linking 30 leves.

I find it very annoying that for some reason I can't press CNTL+R to reply to a /tell when my window focus is on the synthesis window. I have to click the chat window, than press CNTL+R. Very annoying. I assume that happens for everyone and not just me? Wonder how hard it would be for SE to fix that....

Lvl 9 atm - been playing 4 days - there goes that theory :)

But I'm a 'stop and smell the roses' type of player (or in this case, alt-tab to find out how to play, game crashes, play a bit more, rinse and repeat lol).

I've also started a shell for other lonely noobs and we are chatting merrily away now.

your wrong in 11 you can search anyone on the server when there looking or not looking for party, in 14 you can search only whos looking
