I cannot seem to find an answer to this question.
If I buy the PS3 version, can I play on both platforms, or do I also need to buy the PC version separately to play on both platforms?
Thank you.

You would need to purchase the PC copy as well to play between both platforms.

Logging into the Same Account on both Windows and PlayStation 3
It is possible to play with the same account on both Windows and PlayStation 3 platforms. Customers who own a copy of FFXIV for Windows and wish to use their account on the PlayStation 3 version will need to purchase a copy of the PlayStation 3 version. It will then be possible to use your characters on either platform by tying your existing service account to the PlayStation 3 version upon launching it for the first time. Similarly, customers who own a copy of FFXIV for PlayStation 3 and wish to use their account on the Windows version will need to purchase a copy of the Windows version. However, please note that your account will only be able to log into one platform at a time.!
I hope we get an extra 30 days if we buy the other version.
But odd thing tonight when I open the PS3 game. Had to agree to link it to my beta account. I think it showed PS3 and PC on the linked account. So maybe it is glitch? I know we will see Tuesday.
Because the formatting is different, you would need to purchase the other version.
1.0 owners need only buy the PS3 version as they get a free Digital ARR for PC... As for any of the rest, no, sorry, if you didn't buy 1.0 you need to buy PC and PS3 to play it on both.
I know you can use the same account on both systems nearly seamlessly, but to purchase both?
This was the same in FFXI. Not sure why you are expressing surprise. It was the same for Everquest. It's the same for any game, really. For example, even if you bought a cross platform game, say FFXIII, on a 360, you would need to buy another copy if you want to play it on the PS3. It's the same idea. Not sure what is hard to understand here.
yes you need to buy a PC and PS3 version, the reason why is cause the game need to be activated with a code or key if not everyone download FF14 and signing with you SE account and play for free on ps3 or pc remember this is not a F2P game.
Ok here is a question that is along these lines. Say I buy two copies for PC (one for myself and one for my wife) would I then need to buy two copies for the PS3 or would just 1 copy suffice (assuming we are up to date with our subs)?
This actually makes sense to me. Considering that buying both versions amounts to what a game is at retail anyway. Digital download one of the copies and you're golden. I plan on doing this.
Like Pyrolinkx mentioned, does anyone know if we get extra 30 days for activating both? I can wait to activate the ps3 copy till the first month is over if that's what needs to be done for extra 30days.
Well that sucks, thanks for information though :/
