Suggest Change for Yoshi-P Himself

1. Please Make 1 Huge Patch instead of small patch/bug/fix/tread

Why? You've 3 player base
a) Loyal player who still play currently (5%)
b) Player still willing to give FFXIV a chance but not playing currently (25%)
c) New Player (70%)

You don't need to do anything but a) player will still stay. They're loyal to FFXIV.
However, If you still doing small move/unseen promise/meaningless tread, Ok You're loosing b) Player more and more.

If you make 1 huge Patch like last Nov/Dec , I forget exactly which one. You can get back SOME of b) Player.

If the patch is good, a)+b) players will together phraise you also encourage some c) player to join us.

If a single c) player join us, SE make some profit of $49.99, you've more resourse to ask SE manager to give you more dev member, Get the whole logic?

2. Spend more time to convince your upper managment.

Why? I think you're doing 3 things,

1) Dev team twisting game parameter, art design team adding feature, all these needed to accroding to plan and schedule to currently player. By reading your 7 letters, I am very sure you're giving minimal content out for current player to just keep a void image of SE is interactive with us (Paid Player).

2) Your upper managment are MOST LIKELY giving you order to saving enough content for profitable action, such as selling in ps3 version and such. I believe this is what you're really doing and you're not allow to let us know.

3) Stop treating player so naive like we're all 18 years old. Some of us are working employeer that is way larger company than SE is. We know how a company work when facing failling project/product.

Please take out your gut and fight with your top mananger. Ask for more resource, get your marketing partner and show your management a concrete goal on how you plan FFXIV can profit. Cuz if you don't do that, FFXIV will fail, So will you.
The leader who is conducting FFXIII-2 or FFXIII versu can eaisly beat you, understand?

And as the proposed solution, you are saying "don't do anything for a long while, then do one big patch, then don't do anything again."

They are keeping the momentum. I'm not sticking around if there is nothing for me to look forward to for months after each patch. That's as simple as it gets.

No new players are coming to the game before S-E starts advertising again, re-reviews start rolling in and the PS3 version is released. It is a pointless demographic until there is something to show for them at the end of the year, at earliest.

First, I will agree with you that these essentially patchless patches are making the game look bad to players who have stopped playing. They see the small relatively meaningless updates, or the quests which got bad reviews, or the spell size adjustment which was never the critics' concern, and they're turned off.

However, small piddly fixes get finished first. Large, broad strke fixes get finished last. That's inevitable. There is no sense in delaying piddly fixes that you have completed (unless you're talking about those quests which should never have passed quality control).

What do you do? There's a good alternative. And it includes Yoshi-P's strong points. Talking.

The holiday event should be released, but prefaced with the notification that Square Enix knows this does not represent the solution, and the holiday has not delayed "the solution." If the holiday is preceded by that remark, instead of fringe players drawing the opposite conclusion that Square thinks a holiday IS the solution, then the image of a small release looks better. Players understand that and appreciate the honesty. The issue becomes a problem when it looks like SE is hyping content above and beyond that content's caliber. Then players start to shake their heads and figure Square Enix continues to be out of touch.

So, the answer is not to stop releasing small patches, but to make it CRYSTAL clear that the small patches do not reflect even a decent portion of the team's efforts to improve the game, and that they need to call small, relatively menial patches exactly that. Up front. They need to say it before we say it.

That will go a long way.

No DRG for party, camp spot site with 30 dmg, but is it for 20 like 30 dmg when you no hit be it for dd, for 30 dmg instead? or half is 10 for 20 dmg?

There's zero reason for Yoshi to apologize every time the team releases an update. A house is made of many bricks, not four slabs of concrete. Rushing through the development process was what got SE into this mess - continuing to do it isn't going to help. The best thing they can do right now is work as quickly as they can within their quality assurance guidelines.

if this is about 1.17 getting broken up due to holiday. Then its a good thing. Why do you ask? when you promise holiday events and have them weeks or mnths late, they loose their meaning. Like DCUO are delaying holiday events with patches instead of at least giving ppl a holiday to do.

DCUO had valentines day AFTER the real valentines day. And their st paddy event is coming out some time this week.

Holidays break up the monotony (sp) of doing the same thing everyday. Or seeing the sane thing everyday.

I think the patches coming out like they are, are fine. You need to do both hot fixes and big patches. Also ppl need to just not be overly picky about them. Each patch lil or big is impriving the game bit by bit.

Large patches take time to code, recode, test, retest not to mention the dowmtime plus install.

A few comments

Yoshi explained why the updates seem small. I believe his words where something like this. We are working on redoing the battle system which is our first priority, and we cannot release this in smaller patches. So we will be releasing this in larger patches throughout the summer.

ON top of that he said he will show us pictures of the dungeons they are working on soon, and he has mentioned companys and the fact he has put a team into place for developing quest.

Correct me if I am wrong but does that not specifically say that what you see is not what they have been focusing on mainly, since they have not patched in any of their main project yet.

The best thing for Yoshi-P to do atm, is to ignore the entire fanbase that is raging about the speed of the updates. IF you really want the game to succeed it has to be done right and well. If you cannot play the game in its current condition stop playing, if you cannot wait 6-9 months for a great game to come out of this then play one of the dozen or so World of Warcraft spin-offs for a few months.

Yoshi_P, please disregard this thread. I can barely make any sense of it in the first place and its so full of contradictions...

Yoshida does not need to change himself. lol he just needs to continue what he is doing and change the game, then when we have our updates, we can stop making threads like this. This isn't helping at all.

There's absolutely no reason to apologize for releasing content (the "substandard" part is entirely your arbitrary personal judgement, and they sure don't need to apologize over your very personal, and I would say unrealistic, expectations) and fixes of a game in a reasonable timeframe. That's exactly what they're doing. They owe no apology to no one for that.

They need to do exactly what they are doing. Working. Instead of wasting time to boost overgrown egos with unnecessary and unwarranted apologies.
Communication needs to be made of facts, not of negativity and bootlicking.

You all have no idea how bad this game continues to look to the majority of its former well-wishers, who outnumber you and it's not even close, simply because there's a lack of communication to the people who periodically check on this game. You all think you can keep this ship floating without those people? I'd like to see you freaking try. You will fail. You need them. Desperately. YoshiP doesn't even have to be RIGHT. He needs to do it ANYWAY.

Easter should come with a Quality Assurance statement by Yoshida, stating CLEARLY that it does not represent Square Enix's ongoing solution, but rather it is a diversion from the hard times that doesn't impare the restoration of those times.

You all don't know how to fix this game's image, because you don't care about anyone other than yourselves. You, in reality, are insufficient to hold this line. You are not worth this product without them. So get a clue. The main brunt of this game's player base is expecting these kind of assurances, because it looks bad to be talking about holidays and double spell sizes otherwise.

20% current players
70% former players
10% new players

New players just don't care. They have no reason to. You don't even get the new players' attention yet until this game starts creating its own buzz. New players dropped the idea of playing this game back in October, man. They barely even remember this happened.

Well, now that I think about it Hitler had his followers too.

I think there are 2 good points in the OP. One, the small patches are hurting the image of the game. Two, the size of the dev team and by relation the speed of the dev team at solving problems.

For one, the image of the game is shot. It doesn't matter if it gets any worse from the appearance of useless patches. The reason for that is because whether the game improves in one patch or cumulatively, it has to hit a certain number of players for this point to matter.

For two, this is a really good subject. Square Enix as company is facing some kind of organizational mayhem. Look at the botched FFXII and FFXIII development. They had their heads up their ass, taking 7 years on FFXII for half a game and then doing it again with FFXIII, cutting out half of the game. Meanwhile, they probably spent 1 year on just Bodhum that you race through in 30 minutes. Their artists and programmers are having a hard time coping with next generation graphics and they're getting left behind by American developers that can navigate this tricky territory. Whether its increasing their manpower by adding new team members, or finally figuring out how to pull their head out of their ass, something needs to change at SE organizationally or the company is going to keep losing value in the long run.

All we can conclude from this is that people don't know what they want. They just want something and they want it RIGHT JUST NOW.

The original player's poll asked this very question and the concensus said they wanted updates to be smaller and quicker. They're just doing what people asked for at this point, unfortunately the *fast* bit has been killed a little considering the updates are 2 weeks behind schedule. (Originally we were going to have 1.16 and 1.17 within a month, that's pretty damn fast)

I am happy with the current development, just as I was happy with Tanaka's. They were both working on making the game better. Tanaka had other views about it but some of it were reaching me, Yoshi P. has some views about the game and some of it are reaching me.
As for the marketing part of the release of patches, I think they are better positioned to know what they are doing than any of us here.

My favorite part is where half the people trying to communicate their anger and disappointment towards SquareEnix' major blunder can't even communicate in proper English. Peregrine, this may surprise you but I'm a new player who just picked up my copy of Final Fantasy XIV one week ago today. This was after having read all the bad reviews and knowing what I was getting myself into because from what I've seen of the game it looked like something I was interested in trying. After my first week I can say that I am thoroughly enjoying what content the game currently has as I have not progressed excessively far from the start. SquareEnix won my subscription by putting for the effort in showing that they are currently in the process of making changes to the game, to better the overall product and improve quality and quantity of content. So, no, I don't need an apology from Naoki Yoshida for fixing something Hiromichi Tanaka is responsible for. Yoshida, and in turn SquareEnix' apology can come to myself and others in my position in the form of less talk and more action. I hope that all of the proposed fixes are made and that SquareEnix implements them all. That would be a great apology; that and another free month of play when a big patch lands.

No really , at start i really enjoyed the game a lot but it gets really , really boring after you do this and that, a looooooot faster than the norm for mmos.Then you start to see so many flaws that is overwhelming . give it time you will get there.

I think Yoshi-P is a pretty cool guy. He makes xiv haters hate and doesn’t afraid of anything.

Yoshida-san knows better than us what he's doing. I have no suggestions except, "Keep up the hard work!" ^^

They did this to give us patch each week one big patch would come out every 2-3month which is cut up in 2patch so pretty much every time the number change from 1.1"6" to 1.1"7" that one big patch so i think we doing pretty good i don't mind getting cut up version of the big patch.

all i want is an update on whats being worked on currently for the next patch and a rough time line estimate. i hate finding out the latest update is something like.... oohhh bigger battle effects....
