that is officially separating ppl by nation, just not spit it out.
dont tell me the crap that player can choose to stay in which server.
Squareenix already gave out the regional server, give out choice means you want ppl to choose.
why cannot just like FF11 and FF14 1.0? i think that is one of the biggest reasons i like this game, you can meet the ppl and play with the ppl all over the world.
i want to know some of the different culture, but not surround with mostly JP or NA ppl.
right now my old LS in 1.0 might split bcoz of it, since some ppl in eu some ppl in asian and few in NA. and my server is JP server, so most ppl in eu and NA cannot take the server with most population are JP.
this is really a stinky idea, honestly. Fans from FF11 and FF14 1.0 not deserve this bad idea.

No one is forcing your LS to choose different servers. Theyre deciding that own their own. Its not SE fault they have provided more local servers for players and your LS mates have decided to utilize them... if anything it shows that your LS wasnt as closely knit as you thought they were, otherwise they would have collectively come up with a decision on which server they would migrate/stay on.

I also think the regional data center idea is stupid. It is just swapping around who is getting screwed over.
Any and all existing global shells will disintegrate when this choice is present. By global, I mean those that include people living in Asia.
-> Regardless of reason, there will be (server) preferences. If one group within the LS seeks to impose a forced restriction, then you can consider that group selfish. And there is no way an LS can enforce a restriction on server choices either.
-> My LS is NA mostly, but I speak Japanese. To go with the crowd, I'll transfer to a NA Legacy server but that doesn't mean I am going to like it. Similarly, if I make them go to a JP server, they won't like it either so I have to suck it up on this one.
-> I loved the "cultural color" that came with the forced cultural interactions. I loved getting multi-cultural alliances and parties to work. I grew up in a country where there are people of all colors, speaking all kinds of languages. In a way, the original servers were a reflection of home. On a higher idealistic level, regional servers favor xenophobia and poops on racial tolerance.

Before regional servers, the English speaking population would at least be large enough to make it a non-issue, but now they will be the minority. Sure, they can choose a 300ms connection to NA/EU servers over a 150ms to JP, but do people think that will be fun when more Ifrit-like battles appear? End of the day, someone is still screwed. It is just that it is no longer the EUs.
We can now play a more lag-free game but now we face a monochromatic in-game society. To me, the game just effectively lost one of its unique attractions. -

There will be global servers if there were all in one location, i.e. no regional data centers.
It's just somewhat laggy to some groups of people.

no one is forcing people to stick to there region(which means there still global) but they will so they dont get lag. they just decided to catagorize. -

I'm loving the regional servers. I live in Ottawa, which is about a two hour drive to Montreal where the NA/EU servers are located. My ping to the NA/EU servers is about 20-30 ms. My ping to Japan is 200+ ms.
I had zero issues and everything felt super responsive.
In phase two when there was japan only servers during prime time I sometimes had packet loss, which made it really annoying when I was running dungeons. -

In 11 JP playes use to play with me all the time, they even sent me tells, inviting me. I loved playing with them. They were very pro and no nonsense.
But ever since FFXIV they have not.
Not a single time have any JP groups invited me, even when I tried to get in on their parties.
They specifically told me NO English.. No thank you.. Over and over.
Some of which were just very rude, most of which....
Use to be people didn't care about the language barrier and skill was enough.. Not so much anymore.
Unfortunate.

I just dislike that Duty Finder is not cross data-center. But then I guess it would be impossible for ppl with different latency to play together. Still, it's sad that I will never get to play with JP people unless for some reason they join my NA server.

but now i think, that we did not play together with japanese guys or whatever really much.. maybe 2 up to 3 times in a total in 1.0. (i just speak for me)
And its better to have more people around on your server to the time you are playing, because you are almost in the same time zone.

We'll my closest friend from FFXI and FFXIV is in Germany and i'm in New York so if I stay with LS and him the game will probably run bad for me which means i'd have to find a new NA server ><.I'll wait to see any word of issues closer to launch.

Everything is a choice, its just that some are more easily affected by labels than others.
Am I frustrated with SE for how they handled this... yes, but realistically only because I realize how easily "influenced" some are by labels, and I wish they would have taken that a little more into account with their choice of words used to label.
Is it really SE's fault though?... No, because they've said over and over that they aren't segregating, they are merely providing data centers in order to be competitive with other MMO's and give their players the chance to have a better experience if they had issues before.
My LS is weighing options still, but personally I am not scared to remain on a JP based server that I've been playing on for over 2 years if that ends up being their choice. I will follow my LS because they are a big part of what makes the game for me enjoyable, but I don't feel my level of success in game is going to be dependent on anything aside from my own personal drive.
I've talked with other NA/EU LS's on Masamune during this process and while 2 that I've talked to are leaving, 4 are remaining, so it definitely is a choice. You are free to play where you wish, the label only really means the locality of the server, it's people that make it mean more than what was actually intended. -
