I don't understand the fairy pet.. I'm not complaining at all, I just don't get it..
yeah it's quite... Unique to see a scholar doing something like that.
Summoner looks amazing, I love the classic yet new approach to the outfit and it was a job I really loved in FFXI. Yay the horn is still there, heehee that is great. I'm interesting in knowing more about the egi, and how he said they would have different functions and what they could do. I'm glad they said they will be releasing more info and videos all though P3 and P4, because need more SMN info.
Scholar... was never a big fan of it in FFXI so I'll have to see how it plays now. Not sure about the whole Fairy thing, seems interesting yet silly at the same time. I don't know, I guess I just don't get it... Need more info on this, because I can only base it off of my experience with it in FFXI, which was meh. Outfit looks the same as FFXI as well which at first when I was in FFXI I was like this is cute/amusing but then later I grew to kinda dislike. Novelty wore off I guess, lol.
Over all, very excited about SMN and want to know more... and need to know more about SCH because I'm still kinda eh about it and not that excited but that's just me. I don't want to base my feelings for SCH off of FFXI because this is a new game, so definitely need more info in regards to it so I can give a fair judgement on it.
I'm thinking that Scholar's pet being a fairy may be homage to the fact that fairies were around scholars a lot in FFXI. Cause thats the only connection I can find.
In FF3 there was a boss that almost required Scholar to kill and in beating that boss you returned the sacred tree to the fairies (who would have died without it). It's like they're returning the favor.
I was totally thinking they were going to bring up a floating tantarian when they started talking about a sch pet... but now i'm thinking maybe FFV book enemy/tantarian is involved in another way. The ffv book enemies summoned creatures from their pages to attack you, Page 32 for example. Maybe Fairy is a reference to fairy tales? like it's a familiar formed from the book as opposed to from the Arcanist.
Summoner was awesome looking. I'm really debating on whether I want to level that as my next job, but everyone and their uncle is going to be a Summoner so I may put it last.
it's because Pokemon added the Fairy type, so Fairies are popular lately ;)
The summons look cool, but what I find more interesting is the fact that we now have 3 book holders and 2 of each other weapon holding class. Sooooo are there other jobs they are keeping secret? Did they branch out and manage to keep it hidden from us or is there a plan to quickly implement others after launch. It seems kind of unbalanced right now to have so many jobs that can summon without adding anything else.
all jobs will eventually get a branch job.
i think if anything it will be like this
Gladiator> Paladin - Redmage
Marauder> Warrior - Dark Knight
Lancer > Dragoon - Templar (tank)
Bandit > Thief - Dancer
Pugilist > Monk - Ascetic(Tank)
Conjurer > Whitemage - Geomancer (nuker)
Thaumatrge > Blackmage - Time Mage
Archer > Bard - Ranger
Bucaneer (melee enfeebler) > Corsair (melee buffer) - Musketeer (ranged DPS)
Survivalist (high solo ability) > Blue Mage - Beast master
Maybe its tinkerbell lol.
GLD >PLD > RDM? No way, man. I think Dr. Mog's class to jobs theory was pretty good.

think about it. what is redmage?
the marriage of sword shield white magic and black magic.
Gladiator being the only sword/shield base class, i think its spot on.
if you noticed, so far nobody has just jumped to a completely different weapon set.
Arn > SCH-SMN all use a book.
Mrd> War- both use an axe, a 2h scythe isnt a far throw away
oh and also yoshi P stated that while they wouldn't rule it out, they have no plans to introduce multiple weapon types for classes or jobs beyond the current wand/staves/mace/otherthingy selection.
While that may be true.. FFXIV's Red Mage's doesn't have to be based off of past Red Mage's. Look a Summoner for example. It's totally different than any type of Summon in FF history (at least from what I know). It uses a book and just the essence of the primal.
So fencer could branch into Red Mage and Blue Mage. Seems more logical to me.
Nope, SMN is still like past FF SMNs, just the pets are done in a weird way (XII).
Wait wait wait.... is it just me or did that city in the background not look like Ishgard? Or some other city that is NOT Limsa?
Summoner invocation was the winner for me... was totally sold after I saw Ifrit's "unleashment". By the way, I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about the fairy summon for Scholar. You don't like it, don't play it... no worries. Knowing SE, the fairy might just as well turn out to be the most useful in certain battles, who knows.
Great video, great visuals, and now they "invoked" my curiousity as to which region and/or city they were using as the background
That's definitely close to Limsa. Arcanist guild is in Limsa so I'd assume it was in that area. It's remolded so you won't recognize much.
I think it was all great. just wish they could have made a mini summon instead of a half floaty summon.

Main page updated with Scholar history.
The official site has updated the pages for Arcanist, Summoner, and Scholar new in-game images of the three.

Arcanist
Adepts of the art of arcanum derive their might from symbols of power born of geometric techniques hailing from across the southern seas. Held within occult grimoires, these symbols lend shape to the arcanist's aether, thereby allowing him to produce myriad powerful spells.
Using the selfsame symbols to unlock the latent power contained within gemstones, arcanists are also able to summon forth the familiar known as Carbuncle to carry out their bidding.

Scholar
In an age long past, when mankind flourished under the radiance of arcane mastery, the island of Vylbrand was home to a city-state called Nym. Though the history of that age tells of countless wars waged with earth-shattering incantations, it was the brilliant strategic maneuvering of Nym's scholars that allowed their mundane army of mariners to throw back would-be conquerers time and again. These learned men and women defended the freedom of their tiny nation with their unique command over spell-weaving faeries, utilizing the creatures' magicks to heal the wounded and bolster the strength of their allies.

Summoner
The beast tribes of Eorzea worship and summon forth beings known as primals, among which are Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan. Yet what is a god to one man is a demon to another, for the city-states of Eorzea see these beings as a grave threat to their collective survival.
In times immemorial, there lived mages who had not only the power to summon the primals, but also the means to transmute the primals' essences, thus binding them to their will. Known simply as summoners, the existence of these men and women and their arcane art have been all but lost to the ages.

looks pretty awesome
and I look forward to get reunited with Carby ^^
People just need to forget most everything they ever knew about FFXI, because if it isn't already undeniably apparent- this is not that game, and aside from a reference here and a fanservice there... it clearly has no aim to functionally replicate anything about that game.
SMN looks amazeballs. That is all.
How does everyone see Summoner becoming
I for one would like to see something similar to this
Ramuh (Elder Primal) - Hydra, Ixion and Quezacotl (Lesser Primals)
Leviathan (Elder) - Bismarck (Lesser)
Gaurda (Elder) - Typhoon, Slyph, Pandemona (Lesser Primals)
So basically you have the Gods (Ifrit, Shiva etc) and then under them there are other elemental primal's you can summon this would be a good way to bring back various other summons that haven't appeared in a while.
What do you all think
Of the ones that we're aware, only Odin and Bahamut are Elder Primals. The other elemental ones (Titan, Ifrit, etc) are just Primals.
To better address your question though, as long as the current Armoury Job system exists (Jobs having ~5 extra abilities on top of their base class), Summoner won't have room for tons of summons, though a level cap raise would probably help to add more. We know that we're getting some of the major ones for Summoner at launch, at least (Ifrit, Titan, Garuda). Not sure if there are any others confirmed at this point.
At least this version has feathers, the one featured in the video seemed more bug-type, which is effective against psychic GNAAAAAAA :v !!! (geek talk over)
I was expecting so much for the summoner job. I am happy about it's classic design, but what happened to the summons? I mean the artwork is really nice and thought oh it's not that bad if it's not the complete form of ifrit. Hoping that with getting at higher lvl it would have ended up being in it's complete form. But what's this eggie thing? :(
Thought I could have a primal by my side, at least for a while or as an 'elite' skill with a 30minute cooldown idk. But no real primal by my side?
I'm really sad, soy muy triste, j'suis très triste...
The full might of the primals cannot be controlled so easily.
That being said, Free Companies will still be able to defeat and gain primals for big one time summonings. Though the precise details behind that haven't really been revealed yet..
Good to see another familiar face around Ina.
Hope to see you back in game with the old wrecking ball crew. :)
I was never much for scholars in XI as well. I've always been more of a DD/tank.
I think the homage from the faeris is kinda neat for lore purposes.
<3 that we are getting SMN of course.
I am so itching to get my beta invite sorted out.. ugh..lol..
I neeeeed to see the gaemmmm.. XD
Summoner reminds me alot of how yuna from final fantasy dissidia used her summons,
Are we absolutely certain that every class will have the same amount of jobs? So far ACN will be the only one with two jobs. There are at least 3 different things in all of Final Fantasy that could go to Gladiator (PLD, DRK, RDM) and I can't think of anything besides DRG that wields a spear (Templar isn't iconic enough). Likewise, Great Katana is pretty limited to Samurai, just as dual-katana is limited to Ninja. And no, giving Samurai to Lancer probably won't satisfy SAM fans.
