Ermergerd! job Wheel! @@ is that Scholar and why does Summoner have no weapon in/ on his hands!

I don't think that's actually 'Scholar', but just a depiction of Arcanist (note the book held in her hands which has been confirmed already to be ACN's weapon).
That pic has already caused a major stir on another certain forum which I won't go into, but I think it's safe to say that is not a sneak peak of a hypothetical Scholar class being added into the game.
I feel like if they had a card like SCH in their hand, they would have played it already. That being said, I really can't get over how much that is definitely a picture of a SCH. It might not mean anything, but it is undeniably a picture of a SCH.
I'm really hoping it means something. Scholar was one of my favorite classes to play in XI and I'd love to see an incarnation of it in XIV.
I don't know, I rather don't really care as much about whats up front then whats in the background.
Exactly. Unless it's disproved later, it's pretty much inferred that the Summoner job (which is shown at about 9 o'clock on the wheel) is derived from the Arcanist class (which wouldn't be represented here).
I'll cautiously keep my hopes up that Ms. 3 o'Clock really is a Scholar, and that this is what fulfills Yoshi's mention of rounding out mage-type jobs in ARR.
oh ok I got it.... Scholar is Win8 exclusive XD
Multi jobs from one class is a stupid idea IMO, I'd hate to get a new job and then find out that it's already at 50. And then there's class traits; GLA for example has very tanky traits, so any other job that comes off it will -have- to be a tank. Doesn't really do much for variety.
If it's not ACN then I'm going to guess at Arithmetician > Scholar, ACNs use Grimoires ("apparently", wouldn't be surprised if SE lied to confuzzle us and it's actually a SCH weapon this whole time), or the SCH books could be called something different, like an encylopedia or w/e.
I hope it is Scholar, we need another healer; hopefully support-combo
The scholar-like character in the image looks like she's borrowed the FFIII Scholar colour scheme for the robe/gown, and the FFIII Scholar used tomes.

I hope this is a secret reveal...but it's probably just Arcanist. :(
Compare your "scholar" to this arcanist:
http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/game/a...magic/arcanist
Same character model, as with the summoner.
I'll let you draw your own conclusions, but I think they're simply trying to show off what wasn't in the game's original release.
Would be silly on the artist part if it were arcanist, as the depiction of the foreground art work, depicts only the FF14 Jobs(There is a theme going on there). Second that outfit has nothing to do with arcanist/summoner, that is a Scholar AF outfit from FFXI, lets not insult the artist intelligence.
3rd Yoshi and team have not shown anything on arcanist yet and they could have easily switch its weapon from a book to something else and just added a scholar Job(what its class will be remains to be seen)
Not sure why everyone thinks Yoshi and Team would not be working on new class/jobs for this game. They do have a team dedicated just for that... This is hype and its working!
Hoping for a new class SCHOLAR with an associated job LOREMASTER. :)
I didn't even notice that all of them in the front were jobs, I guess it could be SCH if that is what's going on there.
I'm more interested in the background though, I wanna know what those classes/jobs are.
Someone pointed out that they are releasing pictures of these exact characters here
http://www.ie10.ffxiv.com/textart/
Maybe there's some sort of reveal coming up at about the time they release a background of that character
The interesting thing is that When you look closely, the summoner and monk jobs are the only ones that do not seem to be carrying any weapons. So far it was the summoner who held the tomes/grimoires in the concept art (as you can see at the jobs section of the official FFXIV site).
Maybe you are right, they could have given the tomes/grimoires to a yet to be announced scholar job. The question then would be, what type of weapon will the summoner wield? A whip?
Well holy ..... I can only view on my phone atm (at work) but that is 1000% SCH @3'o clock. With the 7 original jobs plus SMN obviously illustrated (and no "muskateer") WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??? o.O. I think it has to mean the obvious. Has to.
What is the source of the pic? And what do you guys make of the fadey images in the background?
Can't wait to see this on my PC screen at home later!
"Soil is my power!"
"The Magun has thawed"
"The soil charge triad to use on you has been decided!"
"The grinding teeth of incandescence, Cardinal Red!"
"The gale of red lotus flowers, Dark Crimson!"
"The strength of steel, Burnt Sienna!"
"Burn it all! Summoned Creature! Ifrit!"
Summoner for Musketeer? =P sorry couldn't resist.
Frankly, I don't think anything is set in stone... It's entirely possible that they came up with scholar as yet another mage job, and realized books made way more sense for that than for arcanist/summoner, and honestly since arcanist uses carby and summoner uses summons they may have something else that isn't natively a weapon (like stones or gems.). A very curious picture indeed. The background is very hard to pinpoint (except the guy in harvester gear.) since it just seems to be various people in non-job specific gear.
It's also entirely possible that it's just a massive troll on akihido yoshida's part. Or that they snuck in arcanist with some special new non-summoner gear to mess with our heads.
We can speculate as much as we want, but until we get official word... or the game actually launches... nothing is really off the table.
I've gotta say I'm with you on this. It's not like they can't change things up from what's been hinted at already. There's a couple of other things that have been brought back into the light on the Beta forums that reinforce the suggestion that SCH is another intended job, but that's a discussion for *over there*.
It needs to be said that the original plan for ACN (before Yoshi) was for them to use a "mechanical staff", so maybe they went back to that idea? Although ACNs were also supposed to lay traps on the ground, but... meh.

As far as I can tell, the image is "unsourced", i.e. nobody has said what Web site originally hosted it. My guess is someone did the equivalent of "dat mining" but on a Web site and got something SE didn't intend to publish yet. Like maybe it was meant to be the last image in the FFXIV Text Art promotion with MS/Win8.
I don't know about the "background" characters. They have some very nice gear, but it could be mid-level stuff for who-knows-what class. Or it could be concept art for every conceivable class. I counted 28 characters in the background.
You guys talking about SCH are having a laugh yeah? There is no way people are that silly?
So you are all saying SE are going to release two Classes that main hand Books at the same time? So silly...
Go to http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/game, look at concept art there, look at concept art here, then again, then once more...
i wouldn't put it passed them to leave out something for us to be surprised about. in fact i enjoy a good surprise once and a while.
The artwork reminds me when the bowharp was first shown and everyone was like "WHAT IS THAT!!!!" so i wouldn't be surprised if it was scholar, but i still think it's arcanist.
No more silly than others who think a job will have 2 completely different sets of AF. :)

I hope it is SCH, but it does resemble the ACN in the art work. The gear is certainly based on the stereotypical SCH from other FFs.
Edit: And there's a naughty image circling around which pretty much proves SCH's existence, but I got scolded </3
This entire thread is based off the mining of stuff that shouldn't have been. The job wheel image wasn't supposed to be released yet but someone dug it up.
If this thread gets deleted it would be because of that =b
Edit: (But I'll remove it now anyway, because I'm a wuss <3)
SE did say that books were arc/smn main weapons. But people forget that the game is still in beta, everything is "subject to change". To me that job looks like a scholar, and making scholars having a book as main weapon makes more sense to me. Again, thats just me. Maybe smn will end up having a new weapon, or maybe smm and sch will share the same weapon, or maybe there will be different types of books. Rember that there were staves and wandsfor whm only or blm only. No one will know for sure until SE announces somthing about it and the game comes out.
By the way, I'm posting this assuming that the job in the picture is a scholar. I could be/may be wrong.
Tried not to come off as forum police, sorry. :)
Oh I didn't know where the OP image came from and if it was a leak. Hopefully web-mining is a little less naughty than client-mining though and the thread can stay put (I should think it'll get the reveal by the end of tomorrow at the current rate of the text-art progress anyhow).
