Aetheryte Radio 2.0- What do you want out of an FFXIV podcast?

With every day that passes, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn gets closer to being unleashed on the world.

For the past several months we've been busy behind the scenes working to bring you a show that's even better than before. We aren't quite ready yet to reveal this new show to the world, we can tell you a little bit about what we're currently planning.

Ever since the days of our Final Fantasy XI podcast, Pet Food Alpha, our show structure has been more or less the same and while we won't be changing it up drastically as it's a structure that has worked well for us, we will be looking to incorporate new ideas into it.

The biggest plan we have right now is to insert what we're calling a rotating segment into the show.
Each episode we'll follow our normal structure, we'll read some news, read your latest in game accomplishments, read questions and feedback from e-mail, twitter etc. But in the middle of that we want to have a variety of things that we can plug into the show, something that's not the same each week. Current plans for rotating segments include Strategy/Tips, Lore, Topic Discussions, Special Guests, and Player Fails.

The idea is that while the structure of the show is the same, we try to include some relevant information into the show as well that players will find either informative, interesting, or entertaining.

There are a lot of possibilities for things that we could include into our rotating segments and we'd love to hear your thoughts on them in addition to anything else you want to see from a podcast dedicated to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Perhaps you want to see more video content (what would you like to see done with this that couldn't be done with audio for example), or perhaps you'd like some live Q and As with the hosts?
We're making this show for you! We want to hear any idea no matter how crazy you may think it sounds!

You said Topic discussions would be in the rotation as well, but i think i would enjoy a topic discussion every episode.

The idea of the rotation was so that we could always make one work. For example, maybe one week doesn't have much news and so we can't come up with anything to have a discussion on- then we could use one of the other segments instead.

There's also a chance we could include multiple rotating segments in an episode if there's a week that just has THAT much stuff going on, but it's always better to plan on there being weeks where there's just nothing going on.

Podcasts would get bloated if that were the case and subject matter to discuss would wear thinner over time. I ran a Super Smash Bros podcast for over a year with some friends and podcasts became really long messes of off-topicness and other such messes. It's better to have a shorter podcast on a rotation of topics.

The idea with the rotating segments sounds great! looking especially forward to lore and strategy/tips segments
hmm with our shiny new world in ARR i think a sightseeing/area spotlight segment would be interesting

cant wait for ARRs launch and the new Aetherite Radio that comes with it ^~^
I havent missed an episode of you guys since the olden days of FFXI and i dont plan to start now

If you were to do video, maybe show brief tutorials on the latest crafting/gathering strategies. This could be done while you discuss other things.

Also, I'd like to see greater use of the wiki. I know you were involved with Eorzeapedia, and it really bugged me how little the wiki kept things organized in terms of outdated data, such as obsolete recipes and monster drops. I know I, for one, would be much happier if it started over as a wikia page, because using a service altogether separate from the one ffxiclopedia uses really doesn't help players of both games.

We have plans for tutorial videos that will be embedded in our wiki. We'll be working with Doctor Mog to get these done.

Keep in mind, the game changed quite a bit in 1.xx, and as such it was hard for the community to keep up. Also note, that it IS a wiki. If you see something wrong, fix it!

I should think it'd be harder for FFXIClopedia to start over, given how expansive FFXI is by now. I suppose that explains why they were slow to add any of the new Adoulin data. Then again, that's also a reflection of the user community as a whole. The bluegartr wiki was much quicker with their data collecting this expansion.

As we get deeper into the release, the Eorzean Trade Association would be glad to provide economic climate updates.

What about call-in shows? I think that would be fun.

I'd love to see tips/tricks/strategies thrown in there.

As someone who is not good at pattern recognition, it sometimes takes me a while to figure out what the trick is to beating a boss or other specific content. Tips and tricks for the casual gamer would be a great topic every now and then, along with the same for hardcore gamers.

Also things like food/gear recommendations, skill rotations that work for specific scenarios. There's really a multitude of things you can throw in there that may seem like simple stuff, but could really help out different types of players.

I'm mainly a crafter, with only one DoW leveled. Providing info on battle class strategies would be incredibly useful for me. On the flip side, tell battle/gathering classes what materials are really in high demand for crafters.

I imagine in the first few episodes an Exploration themed segment might be a hot topic too.

So many things you could add!

I want to go make lists now.....

Live Q&A is good as long as there are participant's. Can have a section made specifically for it.
Its what we do for the ffxiv chat.


After release tips and tricks would be awesome as well.

Having community memebers come in and talk about their expiences can work to.

Ive been listening since first episode.
I like the older format of going through the hosts in-game. Its where the most interesting tangents can come from, spending a few moments describing why you though something that happened to you was awesome. I would also like to hear more from Brian as i was a fan of his Crystal Core podcast. Will also be interesting to hear about in-game from Steak as its been at least 4 years since he had in-game news!! (j/k) ^^
