RUMOR: FF XIV PS4 redemption code to ship with PS3 title....bring salt.

So yeah the rumor is a PS4 version of FF XIV is already planned it will be a digital only release and free to anyone who owns the PS3 version.

You have to admit it makes sense. This would assure that the PS4 has no impact on PS3 sales because buying it on PS3 would get it you on PS4 later. It means there will be a PS4 version available for anyone coming to the game later on to.


I'm not sure how it will happen but I think it will come to PS4 for sure. Square did not ignore the Wii U when making Dragon Quest X and they wont ignore the PS4 especially when it does not play PS3 games.

Also, rumor on the internet...

So a poster on a forum posted that some other poster posted that this was happening (free PS4 XIV for PS3 purchasers). Then also said that someone created a brand new account on the forum to say the other poster was correct. Then a "news site" referenced that forum post as a newsworthy source.

OK...

Now I'm waiting for the next rumor, that if you buy a PS3 in 2013 you'll get a free PS4 when they come out.

The original rumor came from a person that has been right about rumors in the past, but yeah like I said, lots of salt lol.

I'd imagine the code is just for the backwards compatibility thing via their cloud service, and not actually a full out ps4 version >.> Rumors rumors...

I would buy it. Otherwise I don't believe I have any interest in picking up the PS3 version at all.

The seems increadibly scetchy. Not the content of the rumor itself so much, since that seems like a possibly viable solution. But given that Yoshi-P has been extremely vocal about focusing on the PS3 and that they would think about the PS4 later, this all seems really shaky. The FFX:VS:XIII thing in particular looks somewhat shady.

It'd be a really good sign of faith from SE if they did give people who bought the PS3 version free upgrades to the PS4 upgrade. I think it's inevitable that it'll be on the PS4 as long as the game is successful with its second launch.

This rumor is probably a bit more credible than the other things though.

Doesn't make much sense, after all the ps4 will probably be released 4 to 5 months after ARR.

That is what I would say, if my dad wasn't the head vice president of the PR department for Square Enix and he told me that it was true, and also gets me free games all the time. I have already played FFXVII, it is pretty good.

It does absolutely make sense.

At the end of the day, their main source of income are subscriptions, and the more platforms they can provide subscriptions on, the better. Even if it costs giving the client for "free" (they're already doing that with everyone who bought 1.0 anyway, which will be the large majority of the player base for a while).

I love how their source is some guy that posted on a gaming forum.

I wouldn't be so quick to discredit sources like this. It was through forums like this that details of PS4 were leaked, nearly all of which has turned out to be true. There was a rumor a while ago claiming Square Enix was preparing to show FF XV at E3 we now know that to be true.

PS4 seems so uninteresting.

Regardless of whether this is true or not, I think we can all agree:

PS4 does not support 4k games, Sony have confirmed this, though it can do 4k video and pictures. It has 8GB RAM.

I'd really hate for them to scrap the action RPG Versus XIII....I'll take that for what it is. A rumor.

The XIV one is more plausible, since they didn't completely turn it down in the Live Letter question.

I kind of picked apart this rumor in another forum here's a modified post of what I wrote about it.

Now I know I'm not really a huge fan FF XIII (never played any of them personally), but anyone who's knows two shits about this game knows production of XIII and Versus roughly started the same time and it's production began well over 4 years ago (2005 to be specific). This info is too sketchy, firstly if there was a code, you would think you would hear it from Yoshi's mouth that there is a code. I can't find any link telling me that Yoshi-P or Wada has said that there is a code for the ps4. The only actual articles I see, are Yoshi-P and Wada saying that there's a chance of it being on the PS4, but they want to get it right on the ps3 first. There is NO validation that they have actually said it will be there. And I know examiner.com has been a little weird with their info before. I can see how this rumour would have started. But that's probably all it is - rumour based on speculation.

However, that speculation creates a plausible scenario. Consider the following:

• The PS4 is built on mostly PC-style architecture.
• FFXIV:ARR has been designed first and foremost as a PC game.
• The graphics engine for FFXIV:ARR was designed with involvement from the same group of people who developed Luminous Studio, the SE engine for use on PS4.

It is entirely plausible that while designing this game, decisions were taken to make sure it would be capable of being ported to PS4 architecture without fundamental backbone changes required. SE had to have had at least a base-line understanding of what the PS4 architecture would be at an early stage, else they wouldn't have released Agni's Philosophy as early as they did in such a refined manner - it stands to reason other decisions would have been made with this knowledge in mind.


So the theory is not too far out there. Very plausible, but SE is still prioritising various things right now. Beta first, launch second, well-deserved vacation for the P third, and then they can look at how things have panned out with respect to PS4 possibilities.

No early promises. Revealing XIII-versus showed us how dangerous those things are.

I take it as a rumor but would be a good PR stunt for SE

I hope those rumors are true, especially for FF XIV's case.

In my opinion, I think what that rumor describes sounds a lot like what I was imagining for them to do. It seems like the most realistic, best cases scenario to avoid PS3 gamers having the need to buy yet another copy just to play on the next generation system. It's also a win-win because it makes PS3 happy not having to buy it again.

Making it digitally download makes it easier to track them game down and purchase it for a wider range of online console players and it shows that the FF XIV is very thoughtful when it comes to its loyal customers. So I really do hope this is true. It seems very possible and believable with how they've been handling their community and game thus far and I would be happy with it as well.

I guess nothing if they were to distribute it that way. I guess they'd have to open a website to where you apply for a PS4 key with your PS3 key through your SE Account and they manually attach the PS4 code to your account. That's the only way I could see it working to ensure it's going to the person that purchased the game originally.

Technically? The subscription. There is virtually no purpose to owning the client if you don't have the subscription. It's a small dip in revinue, that they would recoup in just under 4 months of playtime. The number of players that would taking advantage of that is relatively negligible, since most PS3 owners will eventually get a PS4, and therefore be unlikely to pass on their codes. That being said, I still find this rumor extremely suspect.
