5 years have passed in Garlemald...

You would think the Garlean empire would or already has a replacement for Legatus Darnus by now.
Note: Will update post as much as time progresses. Hopefully, this thread doesnt go down the drain. The point of this thread is to predict if the fall of Darnus brought instability or strength to the Empire's ranks. The following is just known facts and personal theory, please take with a grain of salt.


Known Legatus:

• Nael Van Darnus (Deceased?)
• Gaius Van Baelsar

What has currently been used class-wise for a Legatus:

• Dragoon
• Gladiator (Will update after confirmation)

Possible list:

• Warrior
• Bard
• Monk
• Etc.

Final Comment: Possibility of a female legatus? Please make this happen! Would love to see a drop dead gorgeous Elezen/Miquote in high-grade Garlean armor + skin :o.

I don't really envision Miqote when I think of the Empire.
I'd be generally surprised if there was a Miqo Legatus.

Anyways, It would seem most of his legion was destroyed though in the Bahamut incident in the End of an Era trailer, so maybe his legion would have been abolished and absorbed in to Gaius's legion

Some of the Imperials may joined the Garlond Ironworks, instead of going back to the Empire.

I don't think the Legatus would have jobs like Warrior or Black Mage, since those are from Eorzean cultures.
Instead they'll probably be class-based like Lancer for Nael Van Darnus or a unique fighting style like Gauis Van Baelsar.
Personally, I'm hoping for a cold-blooded miqo'te Tactician type Legatus. ;D

It's already been said that Garleans are useless at magic, so black/white mages are out.
I don't even know why they had thms and cons when they were supposed to have a "natural ineptitude", personally.

COnfused about our races versus the Garlean race (in case people haven't talked to the NPC that describes them, the race, and that they are a beastman group. Some Of our classic races were enslaved by them but they are their own set of beastman races.

NPC in Limsa:

The Garleans are an enigmatic race of people from a massive empire situated to the north and east of Eorzea, and despite coming from a realm so large, remarkably little is known about them.
As few have ever seen them without their armor, rumors about their physical makeup are many, some of the more "colorful" claims being that they implant machina in their bodies to improve agility and strength, and that they possess a third eye allowing them to see in all directions at once. Though, I would assume there is little truth to these sailor's tales.


NPC in Uldah:

Those Garlean brutes! My brother barely escaped. ................ He set eyes on their leader who stood so tall above him. Skin like leather, and nails that would pierce his skin. A barbaric race bent on conquering all of ours.....turning us into servants.

Had cutscenes saved and all the text for garlean front can't find the Allagan and other beast race parts. Darnus was Allegan. He twisted the empire after his father died.

I remember seeing a blog post somewhere, where the writer played with a thought, that Garleans might not actually be humans. He based his theory on some observations concerning their jaw- and chinlines, and the filters in Baelsar's mask.

I don't remember much from their fortress in Mor Dhona (where you had to disable the Lunar Transmitter), but i think all the higher ranking officers, that wore a mask, didn't cast magic. All the THM's and CON's were humans, which were probably enslaved and recruited by the VIIth legion from the previously conquered lands around Aldenard.

I never figured anything like that, but it's an interesting thought. It wasn't just cons and thms though, most of the grunts didn't wear masks.

I figure Legatus probably make their own jobs like unique characters in Tactics. Nael has no time for our petty conformity.
He'll make his own job, with Blackjack and hookers.

Maybe the VII. legion were recalled back to the empire after project Dalamud ended in a disaster. Nael Van Darnus was only in Eorzea for the Dalamud project. To conquer Eorzea is originally Gaius Van Baelsar's mission. After all, he conquered Ala Mhigo already.

I thought so.

The VIIth died with Nael, without their salvation there is no returning to the empire. For you see one man cannot worship 2 gods(the legatus) equally. The empire would have to start completely from scratch with a new VIIth Legion a new god to rule over a new set of legionaires without prior allegiances. Thats not to say some won't have survived but any that did would likely still be Nael fanatics to the end. Thats what i think anyway.

We know, that they advanced there to set up Lunar Transmitter for Meteor project, and to gather Ceruleum for their needs. But now that Dalamud has fallen, would there still be need for a stronghold there?

In my thinking according to usual fantasy lore, the emperor would've normally replaced Nael right away if his legion still existed and were faithful to the empire. (Think of all those fantasy stories where the evil leader kills a commander for failing him, then promotes the next in line right on the spot) However, since the legion was obliterated and any survivors are known "traitors" who chose Nael over the emperor, the empire would probably have to spend time rebuilding the 7th legion from scratch. Whether a new legatus was named yet or not is uncertain, but I think it's safe to say the 7th legion will require some time to reform. It would be a cool part of the story in ARR if we saw this reformation and the rise of the replacement legatus, possibly competing against Gaius or another legion. Five years would be a believable time-frame for a new legion to start gaining enough power imo.

Very interesting theory that "true" Garleans (the ones with masks) are not even human but a different race altogether. None of them seem to have any tails or the proportions of any other known race besides human though. Possibly a specific race of humans or demi-humans? As a reminder, we have one known photo of a high ranking Garlean (in fact, the highest!) without a mask on - Solus zos Galvus the emperor of Garlemand:

If that's the case, we'd never see a lalafell, miqote, roegadyn or elezen legatus. Although it could be a really cool story to have an "outside" race (a player race that was conquered) rise up to become a legatus as an exception to the rule because of how badass he/she is. But it would have to be that - an exception.

I'll take a crack at it.

The VIIth Legion was created almost entirely with brainwashed Ala Mhigans. This is where all the different "classes" come from. Monks come from Ala Mhigo, but you wouldn't have seen them in the army. Why? Because Monks required certain training and most Monks were wiped out prior to Van Baelsar even invading the land. The first thing Van Baelsar even did was incite unrest within Ala Mhigo, so without the Monks the real battle was quick and smooth.

Van Baelsar began brainwashing children (remember it's 10 years prior to Van Darnus even appearing with his plans) and building them into the main Eorzean forces under Van Darnus. Why waste Garlean life when they have "willing" participants for blood shed.

Now for the Garleans themselves, it's safe to assume they're a different race or a different tribe within the race. The Emperor, Solus zos Galvus, is currently a very old looking man. This leads me to believe he's a type of Hyur. Solus zos Galvus was born somewhere between 1483 and 1492 Sixth Astral, because we're told he was born over 80 years ago. 1521(around) Sixth Astral was when the Empire was founded under him.

Elezen and Lalafell are the only races we know that age slowly and clearly he's not a Roegydan or Miqo'te. So this leads me to believe he's a Hyur or a race that ages 'regular', since Garleans can't use magic maybe that rules out Hyur as well. So it's probably safer to assume true Garleans are not one of the 5 Races but something all together. Then ontop of that if their ancestors were indeed Allagans, then Allagans were not one of the 5 Races either.

As for other Legatus, I don't think we can rule out atleast 1 Female appearing.

No mention of "Dragon people" in FFXIV. But you're right about the Dragon's worshipping a dragon god (a rather temperamental one at that.) Which was revealed by a lore NPC in Cortheas I believe.
As for Dragon worshipping, I'm thinking we might see the "lambs of Dalamud" pop up again as Bahamut Cultists.

Dragon people in the sense that they aren't like Drakes is what I meant. They're intelligent and at a perpetual war with Ishgard and the Holy See. As for the Lambs of Dalamud, they'll definitely appear again. I'm more inclined to think they'll have more to do with Fenrir than Bahamut, they wanted to make sacrifices to "Menphina's Hound" after all.

As mentioned in the OP, a female legatus would be nice, though I don't want a Hyur/Elezen/whatever-sexy-lady . . . . Personally, I'd much rather have a disgustingly obese female villain à la Queen Brahne (she was horrid! even though not reaaally a ture villain).

It would be interesting to see some worship of Fenrir, although in Eorzean mythology "Menphina's Hound" was the other name for Dalamud back when people thought it just orbited the moon.

Ya no one really die only a few army people of each side to each other bahamut attack was stop right when we see louisoix smiling. SE said something happen that make bahamut stop and the reason why they had time to rebuild.

For the op i think Gaius Van Baelsar would be taking his spot and trying to take over eorzea. Nael Van Darnus idea was to kill and blow everything up but then they wont really be anything left to control. While Gaius Van Baelsar even help us try and stop darnus so he had something to control at the end of the day.

I see 2.0 being base on Gaius Van Baelsar attacking eorzea once we take him down. I think the story would then lead to us trying to find the sick old empire king and take him down.

The ineptitude for magic among garleans more likely stems from the lands they were born and raised in than their race. The 5 races are not unique to Eorzea, where as the aethyritic signature IS. If you're raised in a land that runs thick with aethyr and crystals, you're going to be naturally better attuned to it. Consequently, if you were raised in Ala Mhigo, you're going to get more diverse magical prowess, explaining the mages in the former VIIth legion.

As for the political and martial stability of Garlemald, I wouldn't be worried. Up until the final moments, the corrupt Nael may have had His Radiance's ear, but that would have fallen apart the moment Gaius reveals to his emperor that the Meteor project was designed to unleash a primal. Soz Galvus HATES primals. That sh*t is going down!

Anyone in the VIIth legion who maintained loyalty to van Darnus would have been summarily executed, with any remaining troops absorbed into the legion of the military tactician, Gaius van Baelsar. The VIIth legion would likely remain dissolved for some time in dishonour of being traitorous.

Uh, not really. Baelsar says that Darnus deceived the Emperor. Furthermore, Baelsar falls out of favour with Soz Galvus in early seventh umbral era storyline, while Darnus rises. Most likely, Darnus stayed with the empire until Baelsar got all of the runestones for him then did his own thing.

There's text ingame that hints that even soz Galvus didn't know the true extent of what Darnus was doing..and I'm assuming van Baelsar gleefully told him >.>

Of course, this would also require evidence, hence his ship being within observation distance of the battle of Carteneaux with presumably a sufficient number of witnesses on board. With the revealing of the true purpose previously hidden to His Radiance, Gaius will return to being in favour.
