Equipment Repairs universal tool.

Good day everyone I’m trying to get information about how SE is going to allows us to fix our gear.
On FFXIV was pretty much a pain in the butt in my opinion as you had to take the gear of you change to the job that allows you to repair the gear over and over and over. My LS used to go CC AV Garuda and Iffrit on crack all night. For those that remember those fun moments I’m sure you also remember the damage your gear and sometimes your pocket was taking during those events. I’m hoping SE decided to give a repair skill or one universal tool that allows doing all the repairs we can base on our skill level.
I have all my craft at 50 I should just equip my repair tool and fix all the items that need repair. Pretty much like the NPC. Come on SE WHY YOU DON’T MAKE ME HAPPY /TEAR lol. What you guys think about it? As always if there is post with this info please let me know.

I am really against 1 class being able to repair everything, but it would be great if you could repair without changing jobs for every piece.

So you have to have the required skill and levels to repair but you can click a button on any class/job and repair everything in 1 go. No more changing to 4 different things and wasting time and cooldowns.

One universal repair tool, you say?

I think switching to armorer to fix your plate set is fine; as long we can repair all of it in 1 click.
Simplicity is fine, but it would be crappy if you could instant fix all your gear with 1 click. Would ruin immersion as people like to say here.

you're kinda contradicting yourself. having 1 class repair all vs not having to switch class to repair, is pretty much the same thing. And OP wasn't suggesting 1 class to repair all, but rather just a tool to repair all; but you still need appropriate lv in DoH classes to fix multiple item types.

Personally, I am against anything more that is easy mode.
So.. if you can't be bothered to level a craft to repair your gear, then you have to pay someone else or a npc to do it.

Unless the tool is Duck-tape I am strongly against.

Quick question, How is having one class to repair everything any different than how it's setup now? Where you have 1 class that crafts everything goldsmith, one class that gathers all Bontany?

An Repair class would just need a repair tool to change class. That same class would still be available to everyone!
It's really no different than changing the way it's done.

The ONLY difference would be you wouldn't have to rank up different classes to repair a particular item.

I agree that when you have a required class that is able to repair it's a pain in the ass having to switch to that class to repair.

I don't like the idea of a universal tool. I would rather have it when you select to repair an item you automatically switch to that class after repair is done you automatically switch back.

I agree. One craft or tool to repair all gear would be too dumbed down.

But...

For repairing your own gear, as long as the player has spent the time to rank up the appropriate craft, has the appropriate tool and repair material in their inventory, it would be nice if we could quickly repair items without changing out of our battle gear first. It's just a pain to un-equip the gear, switch to the crafting job, repair, then put it all back on.

For repairing other people's gear, it would be nice if switching to crafting jobs didn't reset your cooldown timers if you go back to the same DoW/DoM class/job as before the repair. It's pretty inconvenient to have the long cooldown timers reset just to do a repair.

Would love to see the ability to repair all gear (of the classes you have leveled) from out of that job class!

its gonna be a pain in the arse having to take up inventory space with all your crafting gear though just to repair..100 slots arent going to go very far :(

It is fine as it was in 1.0, in my opinion. It isn't that hard to hit a "Switch to BLS" macro. Sure there could be improvements but I don't think it's a major issue

There should be gear sets for your crafting classes - so all your inventory will be is items you have earned on the field or taken out on the field with you (like potions).

A big % of players vote no for universal tool repair even yoshi-p was going to do it. But he saw that such a big % did not want it so they ended up not changing it.

Sorry but i also don't want universal tool i know one day it's going to happen but for now let it be.

Eh. functionality over "immersion" anyday. If a character has the skill, and a tool for the crafting class in their inventory or gearset, what is stopping them from "theoretically" whipping it out of their bag and repairing stuff automatically..

If I was a Dragoon in real life, yet I knew how to fix my helmet, I wouldn't get undressed, put on my crafting gear, put my polearm away, pull out the tool, repair it, then put it all back on again, if it just needed a few beats with a hammer.

There has to come a point where "immersion" is sacrificed for functionality. When it simply makes small tasks more annoying to perform, then that is when "immersion" has gone too far IMO.

Global tool - nah. Just an option to repair stuff regardless what job you are on.

I find the most annoying part is not necessarily making the "job" change to repair my own stuff, but having to scroll thru all my inventory to locate just what I wanted to fix in the first place. I would love the option that we have when we repair other's gear - view our equipment and be able to click "repair all".

This will be entirely different in ARR since it's likely our gear will be tied up inside a gear set. Will we then have to move it into regular inventory, repair it, then re-set up our gear set. I assume not! They must have something in mind for self-repair.... right?


PS: I know some ppl hate when we go all "XI" here, but in XI my WHM could fish on the boat and cook in the same breath....

This is also my issue, is having to change then find all the gear to repair, I would be happy with if I switch to a craft, I can select repair, and it shows me all I can repair that I own with that job. In 1.0 the best I could do was sort by condition and look through all my stuff for it, if like said above I need to deal with that item being in a gear set and can't repair it that would be very frustrating, but if I could just get a list of what I can repair while on a certain job that alone would make it a lot more efficient to do self repairs. Repair all for others makes it so easy, but repairing your own stuff is painfully slow to look for all you want to repair.

Macros do work, yes... but they don't help the cooldown timer issue.

I would gladly help a stranger repair their gear, but not if it means resetting a 5 or 15 minute cooldown timer before our party is about to do a dungeon or primal fight. As much as I've wanted to help people who are shouting for repairs, I usually had to force myself to ignore it because it would be a nuisance to the party I was in.

Gearsets may be one possible solution, but the way they seem to have implemented it, I don't think they would be the ideal way. Besides, unless they change it you can only have an item in one gearset, not assigned to multiple gearsets.

Unless they really simplify the process, it would probably mean something like:

1. Switch to basic crafting gearset (probably only basic low level clothing, unless all your crafts are about the same (high) level... meaning you'd probably need to use a separate gearset for your "real" crafting gear when you are trying to HQ something).
2. Separately select the appropriate tool for the repair (this could possibly be done by macro).
3. Scroll through item list to find and fix all the damaged items repaired by that craft.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for every class of item that needs repair (often 2 ~ 4 cycles since you may have a combination of cloth and leather goods; armor and blacksmith; throw in jewelry, alchemy for some weapons, or woodworking)
5. Switch back to your battle gear.
6. Get coffee while waiting for cooldown timer to reset before you go in to the fight.

Dumbed down? If you want talk dumb: how about needing a weathered blacksmith hammer just to repair your regular blacksmith hammer just because blacksmith repairs blacksmith hammers
