How will aggro be on mobs?

Just a question I had recently. Some MMO's have their mobs always angry all the time when you walk past them, and others have mobs that don't care after reaching a certain level. I know 1.0 had it so mobs wouldn't attack unless you were a lower level than they were. Does anyone know how aggro for mobs will be in this game? I hope if nothing else, there is a variety.

EDIT: not all mobs were aggro when under their level in 1.0, but a good number of them were, which made travel and sightseeing a lot easier.

It wasn't whether you were under or over level. All aggro mobs would stop attacking you when you were 10+ levels above them. It's just that most of the really high mobs were in the level 45+ range, which was impossible to get past.

Would still be interesting to know though. I can't imagine it'll be much different.

Maybe I was just imagining it, but I thought enemies would aggro from a larger distance depending on how far below their level you were.

You imagined it. SE stripped out all detail like that when people were complaining that monsters were aggressive or would follow you and so on so forth.

What you witnessed was the server calculating you closer to the mob than you actually were, which is why you can't go from full burst running to walking next to walking mobs and not catch aggro, much like in XI you can drop invisible in front of a yagudo and quickly use Spectral Jig/Powder without catching wrath simply because the client has the priority.

Oh thanks. Looks like I'm not the only one wondering then. :P

I was actually just playing TERA and was annoyed to no end that every mob seemed to want to aggro every player passing by, so in order to get to anywhere you had to run there and hope the mobs went back to their leash points. Not very fun exploring when there's always someone riding your bumper.

The crazy high leveled monsters were included in 45+ too :P. I guess I should have said, anything level 41 and up was impossible to not aggro, due to the 10 levels above thing.

be very carefull what questions you guys are asking, enemy behavor was currently part of that Alpha Test which is under NDA agreement, for those posting and was part of the Alpha be carefull in what you are posting. You guys will find out soon enogh.

I can't say how the monster aggro in ARR (not because of the NDA, but because I was not in Alpha), but in 1.x there was variations. Sight aggro, sound aggro and sight+sound aggro. Don't go in front of a sight aggro monster, don't run past a sound aggro monster and don't go to near to a sight+sound aggro monster.

I know it did that in WoW but I don't remember that in 1.0.

I imagine they'll stick to their formula that has worked in both FFXI and FFXIV 1.0; have a combination of non-aggro, sight and sound aggro mobs. It'll be interesting to find out whether running out of sight or walking past sound detecting mobs stays in the new version or if they have something else planned.

It appeared to me from the Alpha vids that its pretty similar to how it was in 1.0, with the exception that ARR seems to put a large red icon over ANY mob that is considered aggressive. From that, it looks like you'll be able to tell if a mob is aggressive from a mile away, although how it aggros is still up in the air.

This was already in 1.x. you could turn the icon off
