Will the file going to be small a Setup.exe type just like alpha and beta for the client. Then you have to download all the patch anyways so you still going to have the same issue.
bandwidth is awesome with cable internet, contact your local provider for sales and service
1 gig patch is better than 15 gig game download plus we get a physical copy. what if we want to do a fresh pc build you want to download 15-20 gigs again ?
Small .exe usually have downloading which is what we are trying to avoid .
make it an .ISO download at the very least
Yes. the small fee will be whatever your local store charges for a copy of the game.
If you need a disc, burn one yourself or buy a new copy- those are your options. Or go to some place that has free wifi and download it there.
If you don't have a fast enough connection to download modern games, you don't have a fast enough connection to play them. FFXIV isn't going to play well on dial-up.
.ISO or not, you are still going to have to install the latest patch after a fresh install which in a few years might as well be a fresh download.
I just have one request in regards to the setup-
Please do not go the TERA route and have the setup client automatically choose a directory for you.
I tried installing TERA the other day and after the download finished I realised that it defaulted/automatically installed it on my localdisk which is a small SSD.. I am sure I am not the only one in this case...
So please don't make this small mistake.
I understand the OPs concerns. Most ISPs place a cap on the amount of data that can be downloaded per month with harsh penalties for going over the cap. So the more you can physically load the lighter the hit on your cap limit. Having said that it is unrealistic to expect SE to provide separate discs to those who purchased copies of version 1.0. At best they might supply us with a discount code to purchase a retail copy. I do not expect it though as there has been no mention of it prior to this. If you are worried about a cap hit just buy the basic retail version. Cost would be less then what most ISPs charge for overages.
Buy a 16GB USB stick.
Go to your local Library/University/Place with highspeed connection.
Download it there, copy it to USB.
Go home and copy that data to your PC.
Both ways you have to pay... so why bother leaving the house
as they says old active players wont has to pay for a ARR copy they must shipped toy our in-game Acc address as yoshi says also email you your code to download pre-launch
No need to inconvenience SE just because some of us are still on dialup.
Fortunately I just upgraded to Verizon's premier new 300mb/sec.
Unfortunately with everyone bombarding the server at once, it's not going to be distributed at any speed near that.
I'm willing to bet that the best speeds people are going to get are around 300k/sec on launch day. Fortunately those with legacy will already have most if it and will be seeding while they download the small patch on launch day, helping make it faster for those that have to download it all.
Most? Not in the US, unless you're using satellite or something. All the major carriers I know of just charge a flat monthly rate for unlimited use. I realize in other parts of the world some ISPs aren't so "generous," but I'd reccomend trying to find another ISP- this is the modern world and multi-gigabyte downloads are becoming increasingly more common- You can't charge by the megabyte for non-mobile without alienating your customer base unless the limits are really high. Maybe they're trying to limit illegal activity or something, I don't know, but when you're preventing your customers from engaging in perfectly legitimate uses of the internet, you're doing something wrong.Quote:

I want mine in floppy disks SE, please send them to me and I will send back the equivalent cost in postage stamps to you.
I've lived in 4 different countries over the past 6 years and had internet every time, not once have I heard of ISP's with caps UNLESS you are using your mobile phone provider (for example when people use 3g dongles that contain a sim card).
Local Library computers are also the best place to get computer viruses! if you go this route I recommend scanning the files first before installing on your computer. I've yet to see a Library that had a PC that was within a decade and ran well. They are usually so full of crap they barely operate from people downloading stuff to them. :P
wait what?? discount for FFXIV:ARR CE for those who have purhased the CE of 1.0?? ooo where might I find this infos??
Great now I have something else to drool and dream about! I'll end up buying the CE again anyways because im a huge FF fan (plus i lost the dang keygen so I want another one) (yes i know i can just buy the keygen)
It is true, although I have never in my life seen a ISP do this. The first time I ever heard of this was when xbox 360 wanted its customers to connect to xbox live for 6+ hours at a time to test d/l and u/l times to "improve" xbox live. I got some free stuff for my avatar from it and when i longed onto poker to play a bunch of ppl called me a fu**ing moron for letting xbox use up all my bandwidth cause know id have to pay my ISP thousands of dollars cause i went over the cap, i was just like.......... wtf are u talking about? XD
Not sure if you just agree'd with me?? I'm confused :(
Look at the fine print for any US ISP and it will state the limit you are allowed to DL each month. I know for a fact comcast does it, cause they tried to cut me off once ( i had DL'd a crap ton of movies etc. etc.)
but they do have limits, 95% of people will never hit them though
found it --
Comcast will charge excessive downloaders.
It is to begin rolling out a system where those who download more than their monthly allowance will have to pay a fee. Comcast raised its download limit to 300GB after previously setting it at 250GB. Those who download 50GB more than their limit will automatically be charged an extra $10 on top of their monthly bill.
(i gave up searching for WOW's cable service cause world of crapcraft kept coming up)
Comcast has a 250gb cap however they aren't currently enforcing the cap while they decide what to do. Because people were hitting the cap with a lot of Netflix/Youtube/Xbox Live ect. They didn't want people to feel like they couldn't use online services or whatever.
oh they change it :) thank god before they use to just cancel your internet if you pass it to much to a few people where i live. I have A&TT and it's 250gb i pass that within 3weeks lol just watching videos online me and my gf. Seeing like we are home all day that all we do so we pass it quick. But thank god uverse does not have a cap yet :( if it does it should be 500gb because 250gb is bullshit lol.
Here in Australia, almost every ISP has quite low data caps. For instance, Bigpond (it's Telstra's ISP and Telstra is one of the biggest telecommunication countries in the country) charges something like $80 for 50GB if you don't have any other service (like phones and stuff) through them. Shopping around, you can get 200gb for $70 and stuff like that but Aussie net as a whole is still pretty pathetic... A lot of places still don't have ADSL connections, even some places here in Brisbane (a capital city) only have dial up because of our crappy telecommunications infrastructure, and I don't know anyone in Australia who can download more than 2 megabytes a second (highest I've seen is 1.6).
Eventually the National Broadband Network is supposed to remedy many of these issues but for now Aussie net is a minefield of fine print, ridiculous charges, tiny caps, customer service reps that have accents too thick to understand them without a translator, and hilarious off-peak/on-peak time systems that further restrict any normal use of the internet.
I can very much empathise with anyone wanting to cut down on the download requirements of the game. However, as others have said, it's unlikely that such concessions will be made. We're a third world country as far as most companies are concerned, and even anyone in a big bustling country like America who for any reason can't get the latest and greatest internet connection is pretty much left to their own devices. All we can do is backup any patches we can get and hope to be in a better situation in the future.
Good luck!
AT&T does have a cap, but they haven't enforced it yet.
Reason is providers like Netflix, have cases in the courts because caps interfere with their ability to do business.
AT&T have a cap and they did enforced it because 1 year ago my bill came 60$ because i was 100GB over the limit. Now that i have AT&T uverse it's the only service they have that does not enforced a cap and i hoping it never does or i going to end up going 50-100GB pass the limit every month lol
Most ISP's, and that includes Comcast, ATT, and Verizon have data use caps per month. Unlimited Access is differet from the old unlimited bandwith.
Comcast has raised the cap, they also plan to raise it again for 2013, and not count streaming services linked to them (infinity watching) with the new higher speed systems (the 50mb, 100mb, 300mb, 50mmb down, 50, 100, 200 up services). Business lines have no cap.
ATT began throttling connections again, never liked them anyway. IT depends on what you signed up with. THey also have a cap.
Verizon, has a cap, but it's on 1 direction.
Caps, as far as with Comcast, are recommended usage caps. If you go over once, they let you know. If you go over to much again, they send a warning, if you go over yet again, repeatable taking advantage, then they can cancel your account. You realllly have to be pushing it to go over the new cap.
I have a chose here but ATT was horrible. Wnet back to Comcast, I had 1 issue at a former residence with Comcast, but they credited me so much money, I ended up with 4 free months.
I have a business pack so I pay little for cable, and the superior speed pays off. I need more then 5mb up loads.ATT standards and business upload speeds are horrible
In Australia, it is physically impossible to get a true "unlimited bandwidth" cable connection. The only companies that offer Cable, have plans based on a xxxGB cap, then slowed to 256Kbps (around 50-60 true KBps) after reaching the cap.
ADSL2+ with smaller companies offer Unlimited but their DL speeds aren't as superior as Cable for the most part.
True, it wouldn't be an issue if the ISPs kept up with increase in demand. Most don't even offer an unlimited plan anymore. (As I understand it, one reason why they don't is due to the bandwith demands of tablets.) When the technology does improve, it either costs the same, or it costs more. When did we as a society decide to abandon the idea of better, faster, cheaper?
Guys, I was under the impression that there would be no physical copies of the ARR game and they were doing digital distributions only.
Did SE say they were doing physical?
Why shouldn't SE not go physicals and show the game boxes in the shops to people who would be buying it after they saw the box?
300 gigs is easy to attain if you watch a lot of movies like I do. What people do not realize is services like Amazon and VUDU stream in HD. You are talking 4/5 gigs per movie. If you have utilized Digital copy from DVDs that you bought it is done in HD for the same hit. Found this out the hard way 1 month when I did nearly 600 gigs. Has greatly curtailed my viewing habits.
I was going to show you a screenshot of both what SE said and the PC icon they display, but then I found that on the FFXIV ARR website they have the DVD-ROM icon listed, so I guess they did say.
It's just up til this point all they ever said that I've seen was in regards to digital for legacy members or those who have purchased the 1.0 game.
I was just going to add the client to an external hard drive once I DLed it, so I would never have to do it again.
