I created a bunch of videos of me wandering around FFXIV 1.0 to compare to open beta if you're really bored. No action in them.

I don't miss 1.0 at all.
<--gives Pseudopsia a ball of yarn for the awesome sig :3
But every end marks a new beginning....
Yep, that is what I like most about FFXIV. I think my fondest memories was from the very start of the game where we had to worked together to build an economy from scratch. I started as a black smith making tools for everyone, made me very happy people claiming their tools was made by me. I met most of my linkshell friends at the start of the game which started as a crafting LS then morphed into a NM hunting LS a month after NMs were introduced.
I miss it too. Even though I didn't login as much as I could have done, particularly in the first half of the year.
The old saying rings true in this regard I guess: "you don't know the value of something til it's gone."
Things I miss about V1-
My LS. ;(
Leading / supervising whatever our LS is doing at the time in Team Speak.
Explaining how to kill the Tree in pickup skirmish.
Secretly laughing at people who stack crit potency.
Trying to communicate in US early morning Japanese + Italian / French pickups, failing, but still getting the job done.
Chasing everyone out of wolf camp by sitting in the middle with 3 - 4 WARs. ;)
Leveling WHM thinking I would hate it, then becoming our main WHM and requesting it in pickups...
Joining random shouts for AF / Missions / Etc that I don't need to take a break from crafting or standing.
Shouting in Haiku. Sometimes for content, sometimes for lulz.
Shouting in Haiku
Can you demonstrate that, huh?
I want the lulz, please!
:D
1.0 was garbage.. You'll get over it..
I miss my buddies though.. :(
the only thing i'll miss, is the bigger inventory
Is it bad that I had more fun and memorable moments in Alpha than I did in 1.0?
One thing nice about FFXIV 1.0 servers going down... its the first game I was able to say "I was there" when they shut down the server.
...SE didn't even say goodbye :(
^they did, they just have a funny way of doing it.....there actually may have been a translation error though as my farewell message from them was "error 1403 lobby server error".
That's the only thing I will NOT miss about 1.0.
This is why I think SE should release the server software for Version 1.0. That way, SE is free to focus on ARR, and those of us who miss certain aspects of FFXIV could still have a way to play the original version of the game if we want.
I wonder if a v1.0 cutscene viewer would be possible? Like an offline version of the Unending Journey... *sigh*
Didn't Yoshi-P state that they're apparently working on converting 1.0's cutscenes to the 2.0 engine so that when you transfer you'll be able to view them in your Inn Room as usual? I don't think an offline 1.0 cutscene viewer would work though, seeing as it would need server-side data to function (character data specifically), which is no longer possible.
Actually, when the servers were shut down they did - they sent a system message to all players from a few hours repeatedly til the very last moment after the usual 'please log out before the servers are taken offline' thing, thanking players for supporting 1.0: http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/s...ll_Message.jpg
Of course it's not a literal 'goodbye and good luck' message, but you get the idea. ;)
I thought many of the cutscenes would be changing in ARR? I haven't been paying close attention to all of the details, though, so someone please correct me if I am wrong.
I guess an offline cutscene viewer could use any locally saved character data found in your character folder. Inventory information would probably be on their servers, so maybe an offline viewer could let us set any equipment we like for the movie. ^^
Anyway, I know it's wishful thinking. I just miss FFXIV a lot right now.
Private servers are the solution.
I have a feeling that we won't miss ver 1.0 once we get into ARR beta. After awhile ver 1.0 will just be a memory and a thing of the past.
they were talking about adding 1.0 cutscenes to lodestone i think. not sure how it would work though. would you only be able to look like you're wearing stuff you had on when you logged off?
we'll see.
I think ARR will be an improvement in everything, so dunno why anyone would wanna go play 1.0...
