Will they be any incentives for FFXI players to try out ARR?

SE are you going to give any bonus to FFXI players for playing ARR? Like the discount for playing both like what was given in the past?

Maybe like subscribe to ARR and get FFXI for only $5 a month. I know a lot of players who still play FFXI but are not willing to try FFXIV for various reasons (attached to their FFXI character, don't want to play another mmo that's not like FFXI, heard bad reviews about 14.)

With the 5th FFXI expansion Seekers of Adoulin releasing on March 26th, this could be an ARR killer for some people. ARR may be released in July or so according to the time line but if FFXI players are content with the new expansion they might not even try ARR at all.

FFXI for only 5$ a month? Are you kidding? Lol They'd be shooting themselves in the foot setting the price that low.

And really, a perk (lower sub cost) won't be the key to baiting these folks into ARR. It'll be through promotion. There is no reason to try and bribe XI players into XIV..if they're curious they will check it out on their own.

Unlikely. there was a discount for joint memberships since september but that is now gone... they may be returned one day but likely not on release...

I actually wouldn't be surprised if they brought this back since they did it the first time. But I would bet money that it would only apply to new registrations of XIV, not existing service accounts.

They could bring it back one day but not anytime near release...

actually 7.99 for XI like before if both are currently active. 5$ i wish!! >.<

I'd rather they focus more on making playing both games together a more viable option. Without any sort of social list integration between the two games, XI and XIV together felt too much like an either/or proposition, having to decide which group of friends to forsake on a given night.

you make it seem like Seekers is going to bring in a large cash crop of FFXI gamers in and back >.>... sure its nostalgic seeing the trailer and I really wanna go back because the environments are amazing... and then I see the simplistic npcs and remember how beyond story there is really not much to do... FFXIVs cash crop won't be from FFXI >.> and I doubt those players make that big of an impact on FFXIV anyways

As much as I like FFXI and wish to go back, my character and his levels are way low (I didn't have enough time in the past to play FFXI, and my character's levels aren't even at Lv40; they are even and all around Lv25 with some Lv35+) and all of my friends no longer play the game. Plus with FFXIV, it's so much easier to play. FFXI feels too archaic to even try again. At least I have the soundtracks to bring back the memories.

FFXI is still an awesome game so 7-8 bucks a month You should consider yourself lucky. ( When they bring back that deal again)

I have Legacy status in FFXIV and I had that 7.99(or however much it was) deal when subscribed to FFXI at the same time and loved it. If they would bring back that deal, I'd totally be onboard for playing both.

Hey SE, you should totally bring back that deal. Two games for what is essentially one monthly fee? Yes please.

I think all players who are currently playing ff11 should try ff14 beta phase 4, this way they can try it for few weeks at no charge and see if they like it =)

I'm sure they will bring back the discount when ARR launches. I would assume that the only reason the discount was revoked was because they stopped billing for FFXIV. Since subscribing to both games was no longer possible, the discount became impossible to acquire anyway.

If the like 500 people who still play FFXI (exaggerated for humorous effect) are still content with the only "customization" options for the race/gender of their choice being 8 different face/hairstyles that each come in 2 different vibrant colors, I seriously doubt anything can coax them into playing a different game (I'm not sure how you can be "attached" to a character that looks the same as everyone else's... I guess it's easier now that no one else is ever online).

Why get them to quit FFXI and play FFXIV for like 1/3 the price? They can just keep playing FFXI and give SE money that way. The real question is: Why did SE even bother making a new expansion to begin with? And why do people want to get their Rune Fencers and Geomancers to level 99 so they can continue doing Abyssea forever? If the idea of playing a new world populated with other folks isn't their bag, it's just not their bag. No need to go crazy trying to grab such a small market segment when the real prize is getting new players who have never played XI or XIV (and, preferably, lots of them!).

To speak to the other two examples you gave... If they don't want to try FFXIV because it's not FFXI... lol? Ok, then. Well, it's not FFXI, nor should it be. Have fun playing FFXI. Peace! What's funny is FFXI still has like 200k active subs and their servers have around 2000 or so people on them at all times much more people then FFXIV 1.0.

I think the incentive might be to play ARR. The way this game is shaping up they won't need incentives at all. MMO players would be priviledged to pay full monthly fees for a high quality MMO, and there is certainly a need of one on the market. The fact that it's a FF title just sweetens the deal.

i went back and its not worth going back, for people who never played they wouldnt know how horrible it is now. way faster to play but no more substance left.

200k wow that a lot of people lol when it come to FFXIV you only need 8 players to do endgame most people did just fine getting a ls to do endgame with. FFXI is super casual so having 2k people on does not really matter if people want to keep playing ffxi then so be it. I try FFXI few months back and i can say i can't believe i enjoy that battle system and how bad the chars looks are.

I'm very happy what FFXI did for me as a gamer i enjoy the hell out of cop storyline and hope FFXI keep going. But it's time to move on also about the other post saying people don't like ffxiv because it's not FFXI. I mean duh it's FFXIV lol you still have the same 5 race and they pretty much play the same way just little different. There just a new job system and battle system if that what they dislike then oh will one day they try out ffxiv and maybe play it if not who cares they still helping out SE and that what matters.

Kind of in agreememt. I don't see much of a discounted price being offered aside from the previous legacy agreements. They've got a good thing going here, and people will flock to the game, even to just try it out. With any luck they'll be hooked. Plus the PS3 community has been waiting for a decent MMO forever.

That's not how I remember it...they gave a discount because you're playing 2 similar MMOs made by the same company...it had nothing to do with how big XIV flopped; that resulted in the abolishment of subs/the XI discount. So with XIV coming back up with subs again, I imagine the discount will return.

I have a RL friend with 4 dynamis relics on XI, I don't think I will convince him. He's too strung up on the almost decade of work now he has on XI. i for one never really did like the whole bit where your week was entirely planned out around events and the game started to feel more like a 2nd job then it did a game. I look forward to the game hopefully being more casual friendly.

Dynamis is soloable now and you can do it once a day however each dynamis lasts 2 hours. It's a 2-3 month grind to get a relic of doing dynamis ever day to get a relic. I got a relic back when it was hard but I was like yea I could get another one on FFXI then I thought to myself whats the point it is very boring and not that fun doing dynamis everyday.

I want to play a game where the content is fun to do not a boring grind.

If FFXI players want an incentive to play FFXIV: ARR, all SE has to do is continue on with that game full steam ahead. They don't need to change a thing.

Ridiculous updates, not listening to the player base, and running with a handful of developers for the company's highest earning game in history is a great way to get people to play other games.

I think the only incentive would be dual subs which gives you a discount for XI while trying out ARR or two games for one overall price, otherwise XI still is making them too much money to move people over, especially with a new expansion out in a few months.

Well considering that the discount was out before the game was released, I doubt they added XI/XIV discount because they felt the game was terrible. Good try though.

Didn't you notice Shini saying "AND OTHER MMO"? biased people stop at the "WoW" if that was the case then the MMO world is F-ed there are no new players to go for...

to many mmo's or close to WoW. Not saying you shouldnt go after poeple from others but it should be those who look for a different experience than WoW has.
