Does anyone else think the final save was a lil premature?

I only have a couple lv50's and I'm not a huge poster on the forums but does anyone else think the dev team should have held off on the final save to keep more people playing the game? I know it was stated it would take a month or two to transfer data over to the new servers but it seems like the game is gonna be down for more than a month or two. Im not saying they needed to add new content to v1.0 but maybe they should have held off until they had a release date or when loyal players would be able to play beta. I know it would take some dev's away from working on v2.0 but would'nt it be better to have people playing and paying vs not?

I feel it was as well. However, Yoshida has told us that the converting of our save files is going to take a long ass time (even longer then they first expected).

So trust Yoshi's words and say.. ahh alright.

Or not and I guess there isnt much to say.

Nah. I was sick of 1.0, so I was ready for it to go away.

The sooner 1.0 shut down, the sooner A Realm Reborn would come back up.

1.0 needed to die, the sooner they could take the resources required from that version and put it into 2.0 the better.

I'm glad they turned it off. I was already getting bored with no content coming in, and I didn't want to cap myself completely until 2.0 comes to I can experience hopefully a better game.

I didn't know it was gonna take longer=( But i guess its to be expected. I was sick of v1.0 too, but now that its gone i'm like "Man!!! wish i could at least lv my DoL while i wait" lol

I wouldn't be too upset about not leveling stuff. DoL/DoH look to be much better in A Realm Reborn, so you'll get to full experience them. Gathering and crafting in 1.0 was such a chore, it was unbearable.

Log-in and see how many people are online. We need beta and that is all.

I'm with you there. But Yoshi didn't want to have it up and running without updates. I can somewhat understand.

Better leave them asking for more than fed up of it.

No. I don't think it is. Simply because if there's someone that knows exactly when the final save was warranted, that's not me, that's not you, but it's SE.

No I'll bet the Japanese video game developers are aware of their financial situation and how to plan to release their game.

As opposed to what other kind of video game developers? I believe 1.0 was done by Japanese video game developers.

We would have had to be without the game for over a month anyway. They had to stop saving character data at SOME point, to focus all their efforts on ARR. Delaying a final save would have just delayed going full force into ARR. So the sooner, the better.

This is the problem, SE don't want more players playing FF XIV 1.x

They had no more content to offer us until 2.0 so they shut down rather than milking us while providing next to nothing to do. I guess if it was EA they would keep the servers running and the income flowing but Yoshi-P and co either disagree with that kind of action or just wanted to focus entirely on 2.0 instead of worrying about 1.0 along side of it

If they had both running at the same time, 2.0 would definitely take longer to arrive

No one here knows the answer to the question, but we all have the answer we desire for it.

I think they could have done it sometime later, but wanted to get it done before the major holiday.

I don't think it was a bad idea to have the save done this early. They have an obligation to make sure everything transfers over for players that did play. For starters this kinda has never been done before in an MMO!

I think it was a good idea to bring the server back up and running to let ppl occupy their time until they either:
A. Get into Alpha/Beta
B. To allow ppl to continue to socialize in game and maintain community.

What I think was a bad idea? Leaving the world servers all separated like before!
If you want to see what an MMO is like with only 5-20 ppl playing on it at any giving time. Login now! It's pretty sad and difficult to do anything especially if a party is required!

Despite the friendlists and LS's that would have been lost from this action. I think they should have merged all servers and everybody willing to play into 1 single server!

Because there is hardly enough ppl playing at any given time to fill 1 server :(

Maybe it would have been a lot more work to be worth it, but I think it would feel like more ppl were actually playing the game! and you just might meet new ppl, LS's etc through the process.

They had to do the save at some point, they said it would take 1 - 2 months to port character data, now think if they left 1.0 up until 2 months before ARR's release, now just think of SE telling us "ARR is ready for release right now, however we have had to delay the release by 2 months because character data became corrupted after the transfer."

They need to build in leeway incase there are any problems, and the worse case scenario is all character data getting corrupted, which would need another 2 months to transfer it from the backups. They did the save on the 1st so they have time to do 2 transfer attempts if required.
