Will the beta playing be saved.

I dont know if this question has been asnwered already or if the answer is obvious but from all the threads ive read i have yet to see a straightforward answer.

If we play in beta, will it be progressive?. or will we just reset to our nov 1st save data again at start of release?

This is a pretty legit question, because this is not a normal beta. Saying they will give us access to our characters, it would make sense to let us keep our progression. Will they do it is a question though.

I would like to see an answer about this from the developers. Don't even have to give a date or a complete yes or no. Would be nice to know however that keeping progression on our characters during beta is what they have in mind or not.

I sincerely doubt that any progress will be saved from beta. Wouldn't make much sense to do so, really.

I hope not. Because I'll play beta to test the game and submit constructive critic reports on what I find sub-awesomeness.
Then, it will be time to enjoy the pure awesomeness. That's what beta is for, not getting a head start by exploiting unpolished mechanics.

So this is what I guess:
Starting from later stage of beta (say open beta...) maybe we are able to choose to load our "converted" 1.0 characters, or create a new character, then bring the progress into release.

But as official comment says, only new character will be able to choose new server. Your 1.0 character will be locked in the same server for a while.

Its not impossible to carry beta data into final release. The later beta tests for Terra were carried into final release. I think its safe to assume progress will not be saved unless they announce otherwise though.

Yoshi did say in Live letter III that the story missions will be unavailable until launch. I guess that doesn't answer the question, but it suggests some confinement.

It sounds like they can keep our progress in the beta, but anything can change significantly that may affect something. Like if an item is too powerful they will get rid of it or adjust it's stats. Or they needed to change something in the UI that resets your settings.

So what I see is, "You can progress in beta, but get ready to have something taken away if need be.".

Having our progress saved in beta would certainly make up for the long wait until release.

Typically when games are in beta the reason behind not saving any data is down to the fact that if a player unearths a gamebreaking bug and exploits it then the entire plaerbase could become corrupted!

Beats being told we're getting our characters and then having a rollback

if you are asking Beta, maybe the open beta is, not the closed beta... if you are asking Alpha, no it will be wiiped.

I hope not. Sounds like the beta will be quite long...I don't want the game to launch and have even LESS stuff to do for my character.

People need to focus more on finding bugs and making FFXIV better, rather then worrying about character data being saved.

I would think the best way to find bugs is to incentivise players to play as normal as much as possible and allowing progress to be saved would certainly increase the number of hours I played during beta...if I get in...

your supposed to try and break things in beta not play the dang game. if your in beta and playing the game like its live dont cry when something is broken at launch.

Remember when you start a character in Beta (or Alpha) it is a level 1 beginner. You cannot start up one of your old level 50 characters. When you start ARR for real, you can bring in your old characters. If you carry over a Beta character it will be a new one.

They said that at one point we will be able to use our old characters in the beta.

most games I've been do not save the beta info...

Most game i've beta'ed both closed and open, only open beta saved

I wouldn't get my hopes up about porting from beta over. You can hope for the best in that they will, but I'd be expecting them not to.

Maybe the final version of beta could be saved if there are no major issues found in exping imo.

If there was some exploit found in beta where exp was too easy to be obtained from what they originally planned maybe they will wipe a few times during beta or if that happens on the last beta test then they would probably have to wipe the final beta save data to make sure everyone is on the same boat when the game launches.

But in regards to ARR FFXIV we got the 1.0 FFXIV character save data unlike other MMO's where it's a brand new game, so they may just let it slide and keep the data even if there was some exploit getting more exp than usual during beta.
