FFXIV story? Yoshi P what are you thoughts?

SE has done wonderful things with the stories of the final fantasy series. Their marking is pretty much spot on. They've come out with plushies and key rings and even the soundtracks to the games they have created over the years. They even have live performances of the music from the FF series. One thing I would LOVE to see is an official release of the original FFXIV story (from release to the end of era) written (book form, hard back cover, and about the size of the collectors edition box) with art work throughout the book to help depict what is happening. This is one thing that I would love to add to my collection, and to my knowledge has not been done before.

This also opens up the market for a second book in the future depicting the events between "End of an Era" and "A Realm Reborn" and then a third, forth (etc.) book later on in the future. The Pages in the book should look something like the pages in the little notebook that came with the FFXIV collectors edition. This also opens up SE to further introduce to us the characters from the original opening sequence. The story can be told from their perspective (not the perspective of the player base).

SE you have given us characters whom we have cheered and rooted for (besides our own avatars of course), ones we have come to love, sympathize and empathize with, Characters we can't wait to see fall, and ones we wish to see triumphant. There are other characters we found annoying, irritating and angered us until they ended up saving us from our impending doom. It was then we found a new love and respect for this (particular) character and realized we had passed judgement to early. These characters you have created are one of a kind and should be remembered forever.

Traditionally speaking when an MMORPG has finished its life cycle and the servers are shutdown forever, no one really remembers what happened years later, and in order to find out they have to search the internet tirelessly to find anything about the game and its story, only to be reading something that may or may not be accurate. The Story may be broken up so much that once read, you have to decipher the order and then reread to try to get a basic understanding of the story which has been left cloudy, and you wanting answers to questions that arise from reading some third party garbage.

I can only assume that Yoshi P or someone else on the dev team, will be able to work on this and hopefully one day produce and answer to the question... "Will you please release an official FFXIV (series) of book(s) so the legend will continue on forever, and so people of all times will know the epic story and fate of Hydaelyn and Eorzea?"

Have they done this with any other of the numbered games (that weren't as over-the-top popular as FFVII)?

No.

Will they do it for this game especially since they're gambling on reviving a game that's considered dead by most everyone but the hardcore fans?

No.

For everything else, there's wiki sites and youtube.

if the fans can get a larger breast size why can't i get a book

Because a book takes significantly more time/money/effort than increasing the radius variable for a 3D model.

lol, as true as that may be that doesn't change the request, besides, this is something that could potentially bring in quite a bit of revenue to SE, as well as expanding their fan base (yes, there are people who don't play games and still read books for fun). I admit this is something that would take some time, and may possibly never happen, however, ultimately it is a good idea and as much as i would love to have this it is up to SE to determine if this is something that would profitable for them to do. In the end if they take this idea and look into it (or if they already have) and respond with an answer (whatever it may be) at least we would know their official stance on the subject.

Would a FFXIV book get SE a reasonable amount of revenue? No.

The massive amount of fanwanking going on in this forum section may lead you to believe otherwise, but the number of people that would buy such a thing are not enough to turn much, if any, profit.

It would have a slim chance of bringing in revenue, and only if they marketed it right. Perhaps they could include a small booklet containing 1.0's synopsis with some art as part of an ARR Collectors Edition packaging.

But with so many other Final Fantasy titles to work with, SE would likely devote their efforts into a title that wouldn't be as much of a profit gamble (like FFVII).

lets look bad on some books that a great majority of people never heard of until they made a movie about it.. LOTR, Narnia, Jurassic Park, and the list can continue forever. my point with this reply is that once these particular books were made into movies the books sold like hot cakes all over again bringing in yet more and more revenue. I would be willing to bet that SE may actually increase their fan base if they did release a book that invoked the imagination, brought excitement to the readers mind and completely engulfed the reader in an adventure they may not have ever experienced before.

let us not forget that the 14 story is an epic tail. (if you think VII is better fine, but i'm not comparing the two, it would be like comparing a LOTR book to a Narnia book, both are great)

lets try to remain positive and not stray to far off topic (giving an example is one thing attacking a reply to the original post is a bit petty) IMO

I really liked how the game was shaping up towards the end -version 1.0 that is- and I hope when they fix the lag and stress issues this turns out to be the FF game we want it to be and not just a wow clone with a nice FF skin,

I was not aware this game had a story.

As much as I would love a book form of the story...that's the whole purpose of playing the game (well the intent anyway lol).

They want you to personally interact with the story ingame instead of flipping through pages.

I could see them releasing a special edition hardcover book with concept art and basic storylines and npc backgrounds (they just put out a book like this for XI, Clicky)

If such a book ever does come out, it's gonna be for Japan. As far as I know, the XI Memorial Book (which my nerd self has an autographed copy <_<) has no plans of being translated into English or any other language at the moment.

Advent Children was a success because it had all the characters people loved, and for many FF7 was an intro to the Final Fantasy series itself. So it was more about "Hey I finally get to see these awesome characters look more realistic instead of like Popeye!" Storyline itself, for me, wasn't all that strong, but character familiarity, action sequences, and a Sephiroth comeback made up for it :p

With XIV it'd be a bit more difficult to adapt, because it is an MMO therefore there is no set protagonist (unless you want to use the Midlander's party which people already on this board have said they don't care about)

I'd love to see a fully rendered movie myself, but not getting my hopes up >_>

You've just labeled two of the most well-known, popular, and arguably the most important fantasy novel series of the 20th century as something that nobody's heard of 'til the movies.

Let's put it this way, while the movies have been a nice boost to the sales of the books, especially LOTR, they were already beyond the 100 million copies milestone before that, not exactly something that "the great majority of people have never heard of".

Actually i never said nobody, i did say " a great majority of people never heard of until they made a movie about it" and I am correct in saying that. if you feel so inclined go online and do some of your own research into the subject. Just because they have sold 120 million copies (in 41 different languages if i'm not mistaken [Narnia]) around the world does not mean that the 120 million copies were sold before the movies were made. Point in fact (you can check pretty much any news source [NY Times, cough cough]) and find that book sales skyrocketed when word of a movie was being produced. This goes for Jurassic Park as well. Any time they make a movie from a book the book sales skyrocket, (wouldn't 50 shades of grey be an interesting movie for the ladies :p)

Don't start backpedaling now and try to argue semantics, when you say something like "lets look bad on some books that a great majority of people never heard of until they made a movie about it", you're implying that it's an obscure book that nobody knows about.

It doesn't take more than a minute or two to find out that indeed both LOTR and Narnia sold more than 100 million copies each before the movies came out, indeed the majority of them before the movies. The movies were made BECAUSE the books were such valuable IP and had a huge following through DECADES, not the other way around. You go ahead and try to make a FF14 movie now, and the only thing you'd be doing is counting how much money you'd lose.

Also, little fun fact - 50 shades of grey has sold less than 1/2 as many copies as Narnia, and just a bit more than 1/3 of LOTR, so I guess that makes 50 shades of grey a completely unknown right? :rolleyes:

As a writer, I can assure you it could be done. The best approach would be to find a popular author and hire them to write the book series. Someone like Brandon Sanderson could do it and it would sell like hotcakes. JK Rowling could do it. You need a really top notch author if you want quality work. If you go for an unknown author it is hard to market a good book. SE tried their hand at cartoons of FF and it was only a moderate success. FF movies have been a bit too disjointed to pull in the viewers. Still, FF could be treated as a story similar to a cross between Harry Potter and Matrix. It has definite potential as a Holywood Blockbuster. But SE has to realize that they could not produce a movie or book full of the same flaws as the last FF movie. That's why they need the story rewritten by a really top-notch author.

There's a difference between what is theoretically possible and what's actually possible. Could JK Rowling write a FF novel series? of course she can, will she ever? not in a million years.
