It seems after Yoshi took over the plot was adjusted to what we've experienced.
I'm sure the first cutscene wasn't refereing to Dalamud, yet it was shifted and positioned in such way that it seemed so.
I'm sure they did the same for the song answers, and I've taken a shot to find meaning in the lyrics.
If you disagree in parts of them, or find a different meaning, or find meaning in those parts I couldn't understand, please post them and I'll update it.

Nearly everything about this song makes more since now then it did back in FFXIV 1.0 launch... it's like they planned this from the very beginning! XD. When I listened to it now and then visualized the end of era trailer I was like wow this is bleeping amazing! I can't wait for ARR, I feel a balance in the air.

I don't see much need to analyze the song too deep. Lyrically, it's a generic "hard times a-commin'" song. Like any prophetic statement, it's open enough to interpretation to fit almost any story with portents of war.

Answers was well written and can fit in many events, Yoshi was smart enough to thread all so t seemed it was the flow of the game since the start, and he did one of the best jobs I've ever experienced at that.
I'm more intrigued about the title of the second story arc,"A Realm Reborn", not Rebuilt or other similar term, but Reborn, like with Bahamuts Megaflare the realm didn't needed to be rebuilt, but something else was tiggered and it "Reborned" saving the realm and taking it to a state resembling a past time.
The connotations are different, and I'm sure the wording will have a full meaning once we experience the lore, but for now I just think there's something fishy. -

Who knows. Maybe the OP is right about the song's meaning, or your and the others' replies to him suggesting he's 'overthinking it' (my word) is right, but I think the same applies to looking at the title Yoshi has adopted for 'version 2'.

I agree that Reborn is simply a more poetic word than rebuilt. Seriously do not get why it is so hard for people to just accept the simplest explanation; that we merely went 5 years into the future as stated. Not an alternate reality, or the distant past. If you look at the trees in the new shroud, the tops have all been sheared, and the growth obviously new. Most of the new buildings are wooden, and easily built in less than 5 years. It has been stated that new ruins and areas have been uncovered by the devastation of the Dalamud event.
Land recovers pretty quickly from natural disasters in the real world. I sincerely doubt that anything we have been shown is beyond reason in 5 years, especially when magic exists to aid it. I just don't see a need to conjure overly complicated explanations. -

The song Answer show a war happening and the idea of each starting start up a company was plan before the fail of FFXIV. The only question is if dalamud was plan from the start and bahamut was there all this time. This could have been in the storyline from day one and just ended up doing it now to remake the game.

I've been asking myself this question: are The Twelve really gods at all?
During the End of an Era trailer, when The Twelve are summoned to seal Bahamut, they DO show up, but they don't have a bodily form. They appear as symbols. What's more, their sealing "magic" looks more technological than magical (lightning bolts, cold blue colors, weird runes or "code" all over the place), and they're really not that almighty.
After seeing this, I started to wonder the following: why would The Twelve appear as symbols during the sealing unless they specifically REPRESENTED something? So far, there have been 6 astral and 6 umbral eras, so a total of 12 eras... right? And there are twelve gods. So, perhaps each of the twelve is a techonological entity that represents the most advanced civilization from each era? Each prior civilization would have probably excelled at something, and that would explain why each god represents a certain ability or trade... It would also explain the part of the lyrics. Why are we meant to die? Perhaps to become something else.
Maybe the reason for these civilizations becoming these Twelve entities is related to keeping bahamut sealed, which gives more sense to the lyrics in Answers: "look to those who came before to guide those who come after." That is, do what they did and save the world for other future civilizations. -

I found it strange how this song described our situation almost to the T. For example: we were the ones that life passed judgment on. Our souls are the ones that years for honor and our bodies yearn for new life. We are the ones that the new players will be looking for answers from in 2.0.
Coincidence? Possibly. But it is possible that the entire scenario was described to Uematsu-san before he wrote the song and he painted a foretelling of our fate in the lyrics, without anyone knowing. Which leads me to question how long this scenario had actually been planned out. Yoshi said that this had been planned during the staff change, but I have a feeling that it's been far longer in development. -

"End of An Era" has really brought it into the forefront, moreso, I think, than it's ever been. I'll read comments on YT for the various uploads of the trailer, and, along with people (including people who know nothing about XIV) praising the movie, calling it the most epic thing they've seen in a long time, etc... there are a lot of people asking "What's the name of that song?". I don't think I remember that really ever happening outside the FFXIV community in the beginning.
I think what makes it work so well, also, is how beautifully the footage is timed to the song. Things are sync'd up so nicely, right down to seeing two of the "Hero Party" members teleport out in sync to the word "fleeting" (which is, itself, quite appropriate for that moment), right before the Warrior does. The build up of the song complements the movie beautifully as well.
That movie/song combo has really hit a nerve with a lot of people. SE's definitely gotten some very positive attention from it. -
