Monster-in-a-box in ARR

I'd love to see this concept implemented in ARR (inside of dungeons, caves etc.). This page sums it up pretty nicely:

It really added to my experience while playing other Final Fantasy games; currently, you can mindlessly open a chest. I think it would be nice to have (random) monster encounters. Discuss! :p

Dont forget it doesnt necessarily have to be a monster "in" a box... sometimes the box IS the monster.

generally speaking, if/when a mimic is defeated, the resulting treasure tends to be above average quality for a chest.

Yep, I know of mimics. I just used the "monster-in-a-box" term as thread / concept title.

We certainly could have both :) Monsters which 'crawl' out of opened chests as well as chests morphing into monsters.

They should definitely add this. It would be great during April Fools' Day to have him pop out of chests at the end of dungeons or after primal battles.

This is what made treasure hunting as THF in XI fun and aggravating. You can pick any chest you want but you better pray you don't get MONSSSSTERS (Mimics).

The return of Mimicks..

Anytime you open ANYTHING, better have Carbuncle ready.

why not? XI had mimics, if you were a thief and picking the locks on coffers, you would get one eventually. Instanced dungeons are irrelevant to whether or not they could implement such monsters.

The team who designs the monsters in Eorzea also agrees that it would be interesting to have Mimic re-appear in FFXIV so they will look into it!

My first encounter with one scared me. I was in Castle Oz trying to get my AF piece. I was camping against an RMT who went for the ring. Big scary beastmen and a race against evil only to find a box that ate my face. It was definitely a unique experience that I wouldn't mind staring at again.

I said it was a hate/hate... never said i would complain if i was in those shoes again... I was a masochistic Elvaan i burned 3000 beastman seals to get murdered at a 95% rate doing the 3mimic BCNM solo..

mimics is the reason i always made sure to make someone else check boxs on FF11 lol

As a SMN in XI and having that SMN habit of keeping Carbuncle out constantly as my personal meatshi-- I mean, bodyguard, I really enjoyed mimics... only because I was able to escape ^^!

I think the most evil ones are mimics of save points. Not sure if final fantasy ever did it but I know Chrono Trigger did it a couple of times as well as a few other jrpgs that are escaping me at the moment.

So maybe Aethpoint mimics or something else diabolical because we assume it is safe.

Final Fantasy 12 have mimic save points that could kill the party in a few shots

I remember the days lockpicking and being TERRIFIED that I would get a mimic and just get eaten. Let's relive those memories!

I read this in excitement thinking the Famed Mimic Gogo was going to enter the world of Eorzea and introduce a new "Mimic" Job. Or even become a wandering HNM like Odin. Now there's a thought.

I hate mimics.

They're, like, the perfect way for devs to troll players, and they're always SUPER STRONG. >.<
