24 hour pop NM's were my favourite part of XI, my LS always got claim because we had dedication.
There needs to be more long term events with low(ish) drop rates, so the dedicated players will have something to do.
what else from XI would you like?

/popcorn this is gonna be good.......
A moredynamicvaried and interesting world. That's kinda what I'm banking on with the redesign.
Also, I'm sure many people will say nothing because XI was the devil.

The playerbase.
Storylines, and the sense of adventure.
What they can take from XI:
#1 Variety of content: Instances, low man duo/trio content, Party content, small alliance 18ish man content. large alliance 32-64 man content. Open world content. World Spawns. Smaller Nms. Hardcore goals which take years, goals which take months, goals which take weeks. Content that is never negated.
#2 Player Driven Economy: Look at XI it worked, look at XIV it is a complete mess. Fix it simple as that
#3 Global Community: This was one of the #1 selling points of XI.... it is completely backwards thinking to not at least offer it to some degree.
That is what they can take from XI to make XIV really good. The things above are what makes the pre-abysea XI in some ways still better then everything else. It might of lacked casual element, but it nailed the hardcore and midcore elements. Had a strong economy for years and brought the world together.
Combine XI with more casual modern mmo games and you can have something that everyone can enjoy not just the people playing casually.
long term events with low drop rates.....erm doesnt FFXIV have this in the form of CC and AV, the Primal Battles etc...
Absolutely nothing, keep both games unique rather than try to make them both into one.
I just saw the words "global community".. that ends the thread for me on the first page. Hell if I'm gonna watch that get hashed out and/or whined about again. Next we'll be talking about grass.. I don't even know how, but someone's gonna talk about grass.
One man's dedication is another man's 'having no life'. Your quoted reason is exactly why I have no interest in 24-hour spawns, though I do think the current system of "spawns every 5 minutes" is a little much. But 24 hours? That to me that was never a "perk" of FFXI.
Oh another thing I would like to see in FFXIV is:
Mandatory Party-Based Roadblocks in story content that are fun, unique, and challenging (i.e. CoP). Not the current crap that is borderline dead as nails easy to appease crybabies.
Dots, we need more dots.
You know. Something that isn't just 5 zones of repeated rock formations. Unique caves and dungeons you can just go visit on a whim. Unique places we can hang out and enjoy. A world designed like an environment.

How do you forget things like that?
The only thing I'd want from FFXI in FFXIV is a quick, efficient, and less buggy UI, and were getting that so nothing.
By never really playing it and only caring for loot. Most likely never playing it. The world design, the style of music, the consistently flowing storyline especially between expansion packs..something that actually feels like a Final Fantasy game. When people read "dynamic environment" most seem to immediately think of the western take it which seems to be a world that gets destroyed in some way.
The variety of content types, especially for larger groups (this IS an MMORPG.) As said, something akin to CoP where you need to actually progress with people to unlock more content and/or locations..which is exactly what all of the older FF games were about for as much shit as people want to give XI for it lol.
Remember the NPC shops in FFXI?
They were closed at certain times of the day and on certain days of the week. Also, they had a limited supply of items per day, and they could sell out.
I'm not sure if this would necessarily be a great import into FFXIV, but it did give the shops their own life and it made the world feel more real.
One thing that would be more realistic (and would shut down pseudo-exploits like the 'Dawn Drop' fiasco) is if every NPC had a limited amount of gil they could spend on buying things per day or a smart supply-and-demand dynamic pricing model.
After a certain quantity of item 'X' is either bought or sold, the NPC buy/sell price for item 'X' would be adjusted accordingly.
I think this would make the cities and economy of FFXIV seem a bit more real and the NPCs seem less like cardboard cutouts.

Rienheart would agree
The only thing I want from XI are remembered characters, which is something XIV lacks greatly in comparison.
Definitely. We had Shanttoto..Prishe..Aphmau..Raubahn..Cid's nightmare inducing grin..Lady Lilith/Lilisette..Dazi Nosuk because c'mon SE you knew what you were doing..the Star Onion Brigade..just countless NPCs. XIV most people don't care if you let the majority burn in hell and be reborn to hopefully something with more personality lol.
I'm more interested in what XIV can do to set itself apart from XI in a good way, not in what XIV can do to be more like XI. Let XI be XI and let XIV do its own thing.
The only things XIV should take from XI are things that were also in other FFs (various jobs and mobs from the bestiary) that people have always been wanting.
Magitek from FFVI.
Crystal Tower from FFIII.
Golden Saucer type location from FFVII/FFXIII-2.
Typhoon from VI.
Fenrir from XI.
Amon from FFIII.
Chocobo Raising/Racing from FFVII, IX and XI.
XIV is a fanservice game, they already stepped into the realm of borrowing ideas and designs from a previous FF game.
My own moogle... ;_;
I would do ANYTHING to get Lady Lillith into Final Fantasy XIV. I loved that antagonist so much.
bazaar message
Fixed some of those.
In reality, the only fan-service elements that are unique imports to FFXIV are the magitek armor (which is an exact replication of the FFVI design.. for better or worse) and the Crystal Tower, and Amon, who are both generic enough that they can seamlessly fit into the lore of this world.
EDIT, I forgot about Materia... which is certainly a wholesale import from FFVII.
Overall, I'm happy with the measured amount of fan-service. FFXIV is still its own game, and as long as the devs don't get too carried away in the future, it should be ok.
unless we want to account the chocobo racing PS1 game...lol I remember back in the day when every company was trying to do a racing game...

beyond that more CoP one of my top all fave FF storylines o.o-b
I have to nitpick this. How is the economy in FFXIV any less player driven than in XI? I don't recall buying the majority of anything from NPCs. Sure, the market systems are different (and in FFXIV's case, still buggy) but players are selling to each other.
Arcanist is coming. :)
Kind of one of my problems with FF14 too. It started getting better when the new team took over with the GC missions and AF quests, but I couldn't for the life of me tell you the majority of the names of the NPCs involved in the class quests.
Bazaars going away in ARR. :x
HOW DARE YOU MAKE THIS THREAD!!! /overreacts
I guess I should of clarified more then I did. Both are player driven, 1 works a hell of alot better. I ment they should look into XI's player driven economy, not they need to add 1.
XI's economy was more stable. Price fluctuations where minimal or very gradual, supply and demand balanced. In XIV everything is crazy easy to get, the supply for most items far exceeds the demand causing really slow sales, 1 day something will be 3k, next day it is 11k, next day it is 5k.
The player economy in XI was stable, it is extremely unstable in XIV. I truly believe the XIV economy does not really work there is simply no supply/demand balance on anything.
game is so bad. but i'd still travel back in time and play it during its peak years if we had the technology.
