I don't know about anyone else, but I'd love to see the Qiqirn become a player-character race. If nothing else, I hope there are more of them in 2.0. Thoughts, dev team? >.>

there's concept art of a qiqirn outpost of some sort, so they probably will at least have more screen time or interaction.
I support this message! Qiqirn as playable race! Let's do this!
I agree I want to see more of the lesser beast races in their own cities and outposts with more interaction... But... not so much of a fan of playing as one.
Want more interaction? BE A QIQIRN! You can interact with other qiqirn and other races~ :D
I WILL TAKE YOUR KLINK-KLINK!!! :O
Will a goblin be added too?
FFXI has a great backstory and explanation for the Goblins & Qiqirn races.. did they ever touch on that in FFXIV? I dont think they did or I dont remember much about it
As far as I have explored there hasn't been much explanation than "they are here and you may remember them if you played XI". The goblins get a bit of a hint that they are amassing outside the major cities in recent years for some unknown reason but they seem to be travelers and traders just like our ratty friends who like the klink-klink. There's not really a hometown for them as there are the native/original three beastmen tribes.
I had always wanted to see a sahagin in XIV as they are mentioned so much in Limsan missions/lore but they - in the game's current state - are just background materials and a phantom menace. There is a CS that sees you being attacked by "sahagin ships" but as far as I recall you never actually see a beastman crew.
You say new race, I hear terrible new excuse to plaster my face on everything.

God how I love attention.

we voted on this already and viera won
I like the idea of adding all sorts of races to the game; goblins, Quqirns, you name it. However, I've always personally felt that the game should allow you to join different factions, rather than different nations. That way you have a base for a PvP system that makes sense.
I was probably the only one who felt that being able to play as beastmen in FFXI would have been a cool idea. It's not without problems though; it's very difficult to side with a faction who's clearly the "bad guy".
What about the dragon race Yoshida mentioned once... XD
Probably cause a large distribution issue but mog races would be cute XD. Mog riding a chocobo >.>; lol
I don't think they'll ever be playable, but I do I think they'll be more present and have their own Primal like the other beastmen.
no thx...................
For those praying for beastmen races, and think that alot of people are with them on this. Check out this Guild Wars 2 news snippet.

(The important bit is the bottom left, with the "Human" race making up a massive percentage of character creation, with other classes lingering at around 15%)
Hell look at how few people make Roegadyn as it stands in XIV. Beast races may sound novel and cool, but when it comes to being practical to develope them...it just doesn't boil down to being a good idea at the end of the day. Why spend so much time on a new set of animations/gear design/whatnot when like 10% of your players will pick it over everything else?
It's also why I'm a advocate of them focusing on the current races and making them diverse animation wise instead of plopping in more races, likewise with mounts. Stick with Chocobos and flesh them out, don't give everything with teeth and glaws a saddle...
I wouldn't mind just keeping what they plan on implementing with the launch of ARR and sticking with that throughout the rest of the game. FF isn't one of those games designed to create a new character and level up, so except to only a small handful of people, this will be an aesthetic change to make a mule or something. How many people are really going to want to start over two years from now when they come out with a new race?
If it were in at ARR launch it'd be more plausible, as I expect to see quite a few male Mi'qote running around, along with the female Rogs and Highlanders.
I don't see why not. it would be cool to see some others like the goblins to.
Wonder if they will give a 1 time race switch (to new race) option at purchase of that expansion pack (most likely an expansion adds a new race). *if they dont then that particular race may be considered "unique/rare" unless it is a moogle or something lol (Vierra? :P)
Would really suck to have to start from fresh if you already had some relics pumping out lol.
I doubt you'll see any more races, and if there are they'll surely be humanoid
Reason being gear design, they want to work with a 'one size fits all' system instead of creating vastly unique models for each race
i like quikins the best from even ffxi and would of loved to play them but since they went with same races as ffxi only at this point i rather them not work on new races. like jynx pointed out most are very unused. but mostly in my opinion, of course, i don't care one bit about cosmetics. it makes me sad when devs put to much time into those things over content. i'd take 1 more nm in the world or extra dungeon b4 wanting to see a few extra races.
Qiqirns and ivalice moogles are why I voted for mammalian beastmen for the new race poll. We already have mithra, we don't need another "slap ears and a tail on it" race.
