I really don't see the problem with this being added in. Main reason you level a craft up to 40+ is to create items and have those extra special abilities. Sure this feature of repairing others and yourself will still be there. This feature pretty much the same as NPC repairs, the only difference is it cost seal instead of gil and you can still self repair anywhere without having to be at the NPC.
Crafters will still be required to repair to 100% and is way more cost effective to repair this way. This feature will just lower the amount of players requesting repairs from others. There's another good way for using this, like having to repair your gear without switching classes and reseting all your abilities to max.
I dont see where players could really use repair system to really earn cash or least enough of it to make a living in FF. It will be 50gil a repair in 2.0 and its not like theres enough people waiting infront of you that want a repair, they are spread out. -

A moogle calling service that has npc repair prices would be cool XD - the problem with the scroll is that it doesn't take into consideration of varying costs of items in order to stay fair with crafters ability.
I would like to see a on call repair system too, like give to your moogle (or an npc in town) and it adds the item to a list were crafters can approach desk and repair the item, then the item is sent back to you.
(Moogle on call idea is mostly from FFIX when running around in the wilderness you get a moogle whistle)
Anyway, just have to keep a similar balance to crafters otherwise you will have crafter riot :P -

You could make an item craftable by each craft. EX. Carpenter Repair Kit. Which only Carpenters could make. Which then can be sold on wards for people to buy. So then players could carry some repair kits to fix gear on the go! It's just like having that crafter repair your gear, since only that craft can make a repair kit for that craft ect...

I think it's a decent idea, but I don't believe they should be trade-able or be able to be bought. Having them found in treasure chests is a decent idea though. Bring this item to the repair NPC and he would do a one time full repair to 99% for free. Item is not stackable.

Just make higher level DM capable of repairing lower level gear. For example, grade 5 Dark Matter can repair any gear that requires grade 1, 2, 3, and 4 as well as 5 Dark Matter.
