Fights to boring for whm.

Should be too boring, but i cant fix... asfar as I know.

Does anyone miss having more things to do like it was in FF11? Not really asking for what it was in FF11... I would want more than that in fights.

poisona/blindna/paralyna/silena/viruna/cursna/stona/erase/protect/shell, Though some of these may be in 2.0, I kind of doubt it.

The idea that you can now dodge abilities say on Coincounter is amazing compaired to just building a very good pdt set and taking less damage but guaranteed damage. The part I hate is if you have a good tank who can avoid basically every TP move, its very boring, I find myself nuking so much I near blm damage as a whm.

I think I would rather them to stop combining spells and give us more to worry about.

Esuna - combines poisona/paralyna/silena/viruna/cursna/blindna/stona/erase
Protect - combines protect/shell
Barspells - dont even exist D:

Its so simplified its just... boring, im sure im alone on this... but yeah.

Anyway, I really do like the ability to be able to physically dodge attacks, that needs to stay, mobs just need direct damaging attacks or aoe poisons or something that will keep the whm busy (so im not nearlly matched in nuking as a blm), its to the point that im actually trying to get our slightly worse tanks in dungeon runs so I can cure some.

I really dislike that in FFXIV, WHM have very competitive damage (so long as the mob isnt resistant to air or stone). At the same time I understand what it was like to solo level up as WHM in FFXI.. lol

During the no save period I'm going to build a WHM with all damage gear and see how much a difference there really is. But having parsed some stats on WHM nuking VS BLM the difference is not as big as most would suspect - which is kind of disappointing lol.

Barspells could be intresting - would like to see some nice timing on barbuffing for Ifirits/Garuda's elemental attacks. Specially if the Barspells were more like an elemental % stoneskin (like cut all incoming damage by % for X amount of total damage).

I find the spells that just sit passively are more boring then interactive ones that change depending on the situation.

Reactive healers will always be boring when that's all you do.

Being proactive is much more enjoyable.

Ultimately there are a couple of things I miss that you mentioned.. Shell, where did that go? Or is it built into Protect, I never stopped to really figure that out. Bar spells, I would like to see those return for sure.

Talking about a WHM's ability to do damage, you know that's one thing I would be sad to see go because I enjoy being able to solo, thanks.

in general, i agree WHM is really boring. part of that rests on content design and how generally easy most of it is, and part of that rests on class design. after raid healing as priest in WoW for years, WHM in this game usually bores me to tears. however, i don't think making people spam separate status curing spells for each and every possible status is the answer.

that said- in the meantime,

heal relic faction leves
solo heal ifrit extreme
solo heal rivenroad hard

even with fairly simple job mechanics, those will keep you plenty busy as a healer until 2.0. i just hope they do make WHM a little more dynamic in ARR so more skilled players can get more mileage (and enjoyment) from the job.

Being proactive in this game is basically keeping protect/regen/stoneskin depending on the fight then healing the second you see a tp move being cast so it lands when the hit lands, but if the tank never gets hit excluding normal swings, there is very little to do. You cannot be proactive on curing if you know your tank will not be hit, curing just waste mp, so you resort to nuking.

If your tank is doing perfectly well avoiding things, nuke! You have them for a reason, the debuffs help out the rest of the party, and your damage is good if you gear for it. Being able to split your time between nuking and healing if possible is a useful skill to learn as it helps with kill speed and such. Solo-heal if you haven't already. Every fight can be done with a competent healer and shifting over to a solo healer for my LS has made it a lot more fun for me and whatever poor sap got stuck as 2nd WHM previously.

All we do is 1whm... why do people assume im talking about 2whm's for AV, thats pointless. My near capped regen can almost keep up with CC's melee swings, and the entire point of this post is that I DO nuke, im generally only 2k less dmg than blm's because I do have a nuking set, which is basically blm gear.

I mostly agree with you OP. I really miss my Dia, Haste, pro/shell being split and the vast array of dispels that were available to us.

I want haste back. I want tiered cures back. I want multiple raises back.

(inb4 the mob mentality of these forums flip their shit because someone liked FFXI).

You can't be proactive in this game as whm whilst being effective, hence my message.

Stone, wind, and water magic from older Final Fantasy titles has always been part of whm defensive, and offensive abilities.
Esuna, first appeared in FFI. In FFII, it was a White Mage spell that can heal multiple status ailments.

Its not your fault your team knows the strategy to beat a boss lol.

Yes, Shell got rolled into Protect a while back.


About White Mage in general, I don't find it boring at all. Between healing, keeping the party buffed, trying to land Stone and Aero on monsters whenever possible, managing MP and hate... I find I need to pay closer attention to the whole battle than I do when playing Black Mage (my second job).

yeah, but AV is a poor overall example (and coincounter especially bad) of stressful skill-based content for healers. there are much harder things to heal.

Remember when THM/CNJ used to be fun? Admittedly a little broken but great.

I think it was for that and there were too many spells for the action bars I believe?

I just wish the spells were separate tbh, I want to be able to solely paralyze an enemy, slow/heavy/bind him etc. I really HATE how they are all tied to nukes.

that and who knows what other spells we'll get above lv50. no idea when that will happen though.

As others have said, if the fight is so easy that it's boring, man up and nuke! There is no reason WHM should be boring. You can have all the duties BLM has (Nuke, sleep, die to an OP AoE attack), on top of your own healing duties.

This thread is barely more than 2 pages and you just repeated what another post already said, and apparently skipped over everything in the OP (which includes me talking about nuking) excluding one part and my responce to said copied post. My complaint is I am doing almost as much dmg as the blm's because I cure so little and have nearly nothing else to do that "should" be whm related.

I could not agree more with the OP. A good party will leave the WHM with almost no WHM duties to do, and frankly if I wanted to nuke the whole fight, I'll just go on BLM. I'm fine with WHM having nukes, but the fact that otherwise we have like 4 spells we use (Cure, Regen, Stoneskin, Protect) regularly, and like 2 others only sometimes (Cura, Esuna) just makes it boring. I also have no idea why there are so many awful WHMs in this game (ITS FOUR SPELLS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!)

I'm hoping the job adjustments include a few more useful spells for WHM. I just find it ridiculous that mages are limited to the same number of "abilities" as melee. The result is that the mage jobs are less exciting and fast paced, unfortunately.

Well it currently exists as a level 38 Conjurer spell and a level 38 Thaumaturge spell (Soul Ward) but masked out, so I think it's more along the lines of them making wipes = game over basically so don't think we really need a level cap increase and more along the lines of them just unmasking it lol. They could always change the level requirement, but honestly this is sorta why I liked the list view/macro setup in XI since they got rid of most spells/abilities because people complained about "too much stuff i don't use for limited bar space."

Dont think the bar is a problem now that we have an expandable ui in 2.0. I hope they add new spells and mix it up in 2.0, certainly how much they have said it will feel different you'd expect at least some changes to what has already past for us.

As a main whm theres a few points in the thread i'd like to cover. First off, yes whm can be somewhat boring depending on the content. For instance, coincounter (for the lazy whm) can have you standing around most of the fight. I try to keep my magic eva down and bleed up on him as much as possible (its not great but hey it helps). Also i like to sleep slugs that are close enough to the mages to silence/amnesia us. Gives the blm more time to nuke.

As far as abilities/spells go, i do have some suggestions. Like elexia said, can we get reraise? Im sure we will at some point but it would be a welcome addition. Esuna to me is very frustrating. I think it needs to be changed by either letting us choose which debuff to remove (in cases like miser for example) or reduce the recast timer. Mp cost is a little high in my opinion as well. Even a job trait like expanding esuna to take off all debuffs would be great.

All that aside, whm is as fun as you make it. In my opinion, its the second most important job in pt. I do agree though with what someone said (for how easy it is why do so many people suck at it XD). With all the spells and mp regeneration abilities of whm, you should never be standing around with nothing to do. Refresh your buffs, even if the timer is still high (you never know when shit can go awry). Throw out a nuke here and there. It wont kill you.
