Wait....you want to give people a greater opportunity and excuse to spam content? I thought that was what ARR is trying to get rid of?
Yeah, we definitely don't want to encourage people to play the game; that would be bad. If someone gets home from work or something and only has four hours to play before they have to go to bed, we should definitely force them to spend half (or more) of their play time twiddling their thumbs.Incase you couldn't tell that was me being facetious and sarcastic. ;)
Let's be honest here, most of the people who play this game are adults. Even though some of them don't act like it lol. We don't need someone to try to force us to take a break from the game. In the case that a player isn't an adult, it should be the parents responsibility to force them to take a break, and the rest of us shouldn't have to suffer if they have an inability to do so.
Lmao it always cracks me up though, you can post anything on these forums, and people will disagree with you just for the sake of doing so. I think somehow it has become trendy, or "edgy" for people to disagree. I think people think it makes them look cool or something. You could make a thread on these forums titled "Babies with cancer is bad," and someone would surly post, "Actually it's not."
In any case, I got off subject. I hate, hate, hate, hate, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate reentry timers.
Lol I can't tell by reading this if you're:
A: Serious for some wild and crazy reason.
B: Saying you think we should be grateful that we don't have an hour wait. (That would be ludicrous)
C: Trying to be funny
D: Trolling
E: You agree with me, and are expressing your frustration with SE by making a facetious remark.
F: Dedededededede
Actually there was a thread on this subject earlier and most people agreed the 15 minutes was great to let them be able to cool down, do their thing without holding the group back.
The cooldown between smashing your head into the wall repeating content is nice and I think a longer timer would be nice to encourage people to do a variaty of content if not give people a longer chance to get things in order before their next run. Then again there is that whole "I want it now I only play 3 hours and your wasting my precious time in the virtual world" crowd as well it's just a difference of opinions.
So apparantly my answer is either A, or D whatever suits your fancy.
XD Idk what you're smoking that takes 20 minutes, but if you smoke you may as well do it inside anyway; it's not like you're going to stink any less if you do it in your house lol.
I'm sure there's probably been more than one thread on it.
I guess I don't really mind a cool down that much on endgame content considering people love to dilly dally anyway, but a 15 minute cool down on a dungeon that takes 15 minutes? lol...
If there are no reentry timers.. then the drops have to have a lower drop rate.
I guess it depends on the content.. but I'd rather not have to spam it over and over and over..
No reentry timer + high drop rates = people will finish end game content in under a week and people will complain.
You're assuming of course that people are quickly clearing the content. The majority will be raiiding for 2x the time of the wait.
But for the speed runners out there that want to play non-stop AV and CC can be rotated, or you can do CC or AV in 17 minutes, go kill Garuda and go back to CC with a small 5 min rest in between.
The content already has low drop rates and you have to spam it as it is. Everyone in your LS is going to do AV/CC at least 21 times for every relic weapon, and if you're after specific Darklight items you're in for the long haul. I've done literally over 100 AV speed runs and there are still DL pieces from there I've never seen drop.
Even if people aren't quickly clearing content, that doesn't change my opinion that people are capable of choosing their own break times, and don't meed to be forced into it as if they were children.
You have to farm AV's Mithrils and turn them in before you can move on to CC. Can't farm both at the same time. Most people only care about killing Garuda for the relic quest these days.
Hiir
So basically you're saying that people should bounce between doing AV and CC to cheat their way out of the 15 minute cool down. Got it. Thanks for supporting my point that the cool down is unnecessary. Kind of makes those "hurrs" and "durrrs" sound quite authentic doesn't it? ;)
If you feel like you need the supervision to take a break every 15 minutes ask one of your parents to help remind you. I don't.
Well, sorry here's what I'm reading.
"I hate the 15 minute timer. I don't want to take a break from the game and sit there and do nothing."
"Well here some things you can do..."
"I don't want to do those things..."
"..."
How is this SE's fault again? I don't get it. Sorry. Go do a caravan those are 15 mins. You've forgotten that the whole 15 minute timer thing was more for server congestion than anything else? Instances can only support a certain number of parties. (remember Darnus?) That's not happening now, of course, but let's be optimistic
I'd rather see dungeons being expanded into 1-2 hour runs with a long cool down and a better drop system.
Cutter's Cry: infinite timer, 1 hour minimum to clear, 2 hours cool down, token system, more tokens for clearing extra rooms/bosses and so on. If done right everybody will have a sense of achievement and some endgame armor by the time more content is in game.
Beats the hell out of repeating the same 20min run 10 times a day and never being any closer to getting what you're after.
Maybe we could get it once they fix the crappy server system. Expanding the amount of parties that can go in the instance at once could allow to eliminate cool downs completely and/or allow for very long raids.
EDIT: Dev Response pl0x
EDIT 2: My name is pronounced Hear No Evil. Hear. Not Hurr. lol Sometimes I put my name (unnecessarily) at the bottom of messages. Since you were confused, and thought I was making fun of you, I have removed it.
I'm nearing 600 AV/CC runs and I can count the number of Darklight pieces I've seen drop on 2 hands and I can remember them all in the order that they dropped.
They couldn't make the drop rate lower than what it is.
I want to be able to choose how to spend my playtime myself. I don't want to be given an ultimatum to either do things I don't want to do, or sit there and wait. Most MMO's have cool downs preventing you from entering, 24 hours, a week, etc. SE decided to opt out of that by giving us a mini timer and super low drop rates, but considering the dungeons are so short, the 15 minute timer just ends up being annoying and unnecessary.
You may be right that they are using the 15 min cool down as a ghetto way to prevent server congestion, but in the past they've openly stated the reason was to force players to take a break. I wouldn't put it past them to just be using that as an excuse, but then again, I know some countries actually do have laws restricting playtime on online games, so that could be the case as well. If it is because of the servers, then with the new servers that they're promising in ARR it would be a wonderful opportunity to fix the issue, but I'm sure that they plan on keeping some sort of cooldown timers.
Sorry, I didn't notice that your name had hiir in it until after. I thought you were saying "hiir" as in like hurr durr or something so I took offense.
Mijin, a lot of 1.0 is ghetto.
I'll find the post later but in the patch notes for Darkhold it says that there's a set (probably pathetically low) number of parties that can enter. I remember clearly that this was the reason for the timer. (I also think that server issues were worse back then than they are now since now we have ARR server to prop up the current monstrosity that is currently Ul'dah and also Atomos and the freakish melt down of Balmung's Garuda instance.)
Later days.
I forgot to mention the part I hate most about timers... Some people think because there's a 15 min cool down it's cool to go afk for 25 instead, and it seems like always at about 24 minutes later someone else will be like "brb." Then when the 25min guy gets back, the last min brb guy will be gone for another 10. The brb guy finally gets back, and 35 minutes have passed since you finished the last run... You do a ready check to see if everyone's there only to find two more people have gone afk... 5 Minutes later they finally respond only to explain that they were there the whole time just not paying attention, and you enter the dungeon. As you enter someone game crashes.
In any case, I don't ever see them getting rid of timers. This thread was just a useless rant only for my own benefit because I was interested in seeing if these timers drove anyone else crazy. In conclusion it seems like it might not bother as many people as I thought it would, so maybe I'm just being obsessive. In any case I g2g for now. I have a doctors appointment, and I'm sure I'll have to wait forever there too... It will be only slightly less fun that waiting for cool downs lol... only slightly.
We should have lockouts that reset every JP Tuesday midnight instead!
XI's lockout timers made sense, especially early on since a lot of the content wasn't truly instanced (Dynamis/Limbus for example), that way everyone could actually rotate doing the content.
Only things people disliked were the JP midnight waits on certain things that shouldn't have been there, i.e on SAM AF, it makes sense from a lore perspective, but from a gameplay standpoint people shouldn't have waited a real day for their armor, let alone to even progress it.
OP please DIAF
I want greater lock out timers so we can get a greater drop rate on the chest
crazy people talking about no lock out.... (I would totally burn myself out doing endgame)
btw with lockout on endgame I usually switch it up
AV To CC
Hamlet To Skirmish
etc
silly dood
They really should get rid of the timer, but it's not that bad.
Get rid of lockout timer. put in a timer to exit the dungeon ^^
After you enter the dungeon, you can only exit it after 1 hour.
Get rid of the 15min timer. Add 10xs the content. Add a 24-72hr cooldown timer in its place increase drop rates all around.
I agree with you, Mijin. Spamming Hamlet, it's a dedicated 20-25 minutes in the instance coupled with a 15 minute cooldown. That adds up to 40 minute runs. If you have to leave in an hour? You only get one more run, even though you could fit two in without the cooldown. It wouldn't be an issue if drops were more common, but I've gone far too many top 20 provisioner runs getting just a damn headpiece.
I'm glad they said they're addressing the reward system in 2.0. I would be happy with the cooldown if it meant I was getting more stuff. I shouldn't be spending 4+ hours doing instances and end up with absolutely nothing to show for it.
This is Spot on.
Even with a 24 hour cool down I'd be happy. I'd much rather spend an hour or 2 clearing a harder dungeon with decent drop rates at the end than spam the same 20 minute dungeon 6 or 7 times in that same couple of hours with attrocious drop rates.
In a way I'd like to say the longer the cool downs the better. Even with a token system in place.
If for example a dungeon took you 90 minutes to finish and has a 24 hour cool down on completeing it, then it may take you 15-20 tokens to get a piece of gear.
If however that same dungeon had a 15 minute cool down and could be cleared in 20 minutes for example then it would be highly likely that you would need 150-200 tokens to get that same piece of gear.
So even if you were to run it 10 times a day it would still take just as long (15-20 days) to get your piece of gear regardless of how long the cooldowns are.
I do prefer longer cool downs though as it means more time to do other content..
the timers should be treated like dailys. or a raid/boss once a day each. hope the new loot system has nothing to do with drops.
if they dont try and stop the spamming theres not going to be a gain to the community numbers. people will win the game and move on. version 1 nothing lasted a week before people dominated it. even in the first two week the game launched people had multiple lv50's
Needs to be just under an hour, the length of a cigar and Dark Side of the Moon sounds perfect for breaks.
The CD Time of 15 minutes should be applied ONLY when you clear a content.
EX:
Now if you go out of a dungeon (Cutter's Cry, Aurum Vale) maybe because you missed a SSPR you are forced to wait 15 mins, and I find it quite annoying...
I think I said it in the other thread but I wouldn't mind cooldowns if it was proportional to how much time the content takes. I just don't want days-long cooldowns so that runs can remain flexible schedule-wise. If the content takes a long time I wouldn't mind an hour(s)-long cooldown.
This needs to be balanced out with quick jump-in, jump-out content though.
I don't mind the current 15 min wait at all when we clear the dungeon/boss/whatever....it's the stupid 15 minute wait timer for a loss/return/exit that I think should be shortened to 5 mins. It's just that when working on a new strategy or when trying to learn/teach new people content, it'd be nice to be able to enter/exit as needed instead of exiting and having to wait 15 mins...esp. when it could be due to something as stupid as a party member dcing on your speed run forcing you to re-start.
