Anyone else agrees? I get the blue background which is a FF trademark kind of.... but the menus and all look like something that was designed 10-15 years ago... Maybe they should forget the drop downs and go for tabs and redo the whole design or even better, let us do mods so we can customize the way the menus look....
It doesn't impact gameplay at all and it's not by any means a priority but i hope that down the road they will change it.
It is just ugly and depressing to look at....

If I were king, I would run with the initial (all white) screen. Minimalist and pure. That would be epic if they could expand upon that look and feel.

Yes, it's very clunky and the size of the menus, bars and such take up too much space on the screen in addition that they keep adding to it (when they moved rank and physical bars and when the targeting option was added). Furthermore, a lot of things can't be re sized so those playing on a smaller resolution have more clutter problems.

As for UI mods, not really a fan of that I'd rather we push SE to add things that we need. Problem with mods is they can give an advantage and if their creators stop supporting the game you lose a mod you've come to depend on. -

Personally, I don't mind it. And i'm playing on a 16.4" laptop screen. But what does annoy the hell out of me, is the inability to put my 4 chat log tabs on one bar, and switch between them via the keyboard. Or quick expand it. Please bring that back.

After the recent UI work in FFXIII and FFXII, the FFXIV UI really is a step backwards. Yoshida did bring Hiroshi Minagawa in to work on the Interface, so hopefully that entails some major changes.

UI , the user interface ia clientside, some graphical elements+simple code to display them, and it wouldnt be a proble to change iot, however a design process for changes is problem.
for me biggest problem is i cantr exopand skill bar, or make it to display two rows at same time. kind of annoying -

well in ffxi you could change the UI scheme. I liked doing the dark blue one. Maybe they will add a scheme changer with 8 options. Or something similar to past ff games where u had 4 tabs and you could change the colors.

Well, there are a couple of things they did do good with on the interface.
One is the mini map, being able to notice mobs in general and tunnels ahead of you is a plus.
Second is the buff/debuff duration timers for yourself. A godsend if you know you need to do something coming up.
After it's party player buff/debuffs. Nice to know who has what. The only thing I would change would be to remove the gear wear icon from that list, during battles it's a bit unnecessary to look at. You could keep it present in your own status window as a heads up otherwise.
