ARR Leveling Speed?

Has there been any information on ARR's leveling speed? Will it be faster or stay the same?

I actually am hoping it stays the same. I keep hearing how they are speeding up combat and making other changes to be more "standard" ( read, like WoW ), but I'm very tired of current mainstream MMOs where you can reach cap in a matter of days. I want an MMO that actually gives me a reason to play for many months instead of burning out in a couple of weeks.

Yes, I actually like the leveling process. Too many people are eager to reach the end and too many games now are willing to give it to them at record speeds. But all that does is allow people to be done with the game and off to the next. There's little sense of investment anymore.

But idk it's hard to answer that. Because HOW you level is going to be completely different.

Can't get any faster than what it already is... If anything to really should be a tad slower.. no sense of adventure when you blow through levels like their hotcakes :P.

I theorize that it will be slightly slower, if only because you get the most EXP from quest completion. You'll have to actually DO the quest before getting the EXP.

On the other hand, if the EXP reward is substantial, then you may make the same per hour that you do now.

All in all, we simply don't know enough to be sure.

It's difficult to say because as mentioned, the typical leveling path is going to change significantly. That being said, I don't expect it to change drastically one way or another.

Also it's only "too fast" right now if you can get a powerlevel. Which with people grinding out atomos and trying to beat events before they disappear, isn't that easy to get right now. "Normal' leveling honestly isn't that fast.

I've nevr "blown through levels like hotcakes." I don't feel power-leveling counts when assessing this because that's not standard practice. It actually takes a fair bit of time to level up if you only do leves and "normal" parties.

Generally in an MMO I like to take it slow on my first character / class, then on the others I'd rather not waste time griding as I've already experienced what it's like for that game. Therefore I think it's good for there to be different options.

If you have a decent party, you can get 30-36 within 4-5 hours w/o PL, in fact I never once "asked" for a PL, Most of it came from normal Grinding. You don't really need a PL in this game to be quite honest, 44-50 at a SH is just madness 400-500k in a matter of 2 hours.. that's insane..

I have nothing against PLing, but personally its a last resort for me. and I have all 50's ( Battle and Magic) by mostly normal grinding and in a 2 year span.. that's not really healthy for an MMO that it's main goal is Longevity.

That's just my Two cents.

lol you can go from 1 to 50 in a weekend of moderate game play and power level (Id say 8-24 hours). Probably go faster if your PLer was hardcore.

It is incredibly fast currently and incredibly boring too. I am all for the "slow down and smell the roses" mentality when it comes to leveling, but in this game, at least currently, there aren't many roses to smell while leveling. You just wanna get it over with ASAP and it allows you to. I hope questing and exploration is a lot more fun and appealing in 2.0 so leveling is a by product of smelling the roses rather than a chore like it is now.

That might be from the perspective of a new player. Veterans who know the ropes can probably get that done in considerably less time.

I felt the pace for leveling through leves (assuming you had a full amount available, and I hope SE doesn't limit you on how many you can do in 2.0) was just about right in terms of how long it'd take to get from 1-50. Once you reach 40, you can typically get a party in Natalan and grind out the last 10 levels within a couple hours. This may change in ARR though since the focus is shifting away from grinding and more towards quests.

I think the xp bar in the pre-alpha footage also showed 500k xp for a level, but I don't know if that was some arbitrary number or if the xp needed/xp earned is going to scale up a lot.

I started up FFXI again recently after 5 years of not playing it and I like how it's not a chore to level up anymore. BG Wiki summed it up nicely saying that since there's so much other stuff to do in the game, leveling shouldn't be such a process to undertake. ARR is not quite there yet since it's more or less starting over fresh and will only have limited content, so getting all battle classes to 50 shouldn't be a walk in a park, but it shouldn't be mindnumbingly boring and tedious like it was in the old school FFXI days either.

I disagree. I just got my BLM from 31-50 in 6 days just leve grinding with 1 another person. Granted we put in long days, but still. Even at 40+, each level would take maybe 1-1.5 hours per level. I've also done ubergrind parties of cactuars, then scorpions, then raptors, then natalan to take classes from 20-50 twice as fast. And like I said in my previous post, I would love to slow down and smell the roses. However, what roses do I smell? The levequests are all very boring and reptitive. I'm not going to spend forever reading them and immersing myself in them. The places you grind in are all very reptitive and copy/pasted. Not much desire to explore.

If you give me a reason to slow down, I will happily do so. Currently the game does not. Hopefully 2.0 changes that.

Agreed, except theres not enough to do to support slower leveling currently.

In almost any non-korean MMO, I could do the same thing (traverse the majority of the EXP reqired to reach max level) in the same amount of time if I put in "long days." This game isn't any faster or slower to level than most others I've played.

They wont be any powerlevel or camp you can go to with a party to exp. So doing quest and dungeon would be slow yoshi-p said you get exp at the end of the dungeon will if it take 15-30m to win the dungeon and only get 3-15k exp it would take sometime to get a level and questing i'm sure be slow the first few quest would give pretty much noting once you get to the end of that quest chain that where you get that nice 3-15k exp for getting the quest chain done.

I do want it to be slower as well. I actually want to work on leveling Arcanist instead of just facerolling and getting to 50 in a few days.
