WTF! all my voyager balts and walnub masks are becoming U/U!?! i have hundreds i intended to SB in 2.0!!! WTF!

Well yeah they do. I bet if they got rid of the dated gear it would help their 'PS3 memory issues'. Would be a crap ton of items that wouldn't be in memory.

Well I doubt the OP is being serious, but for those who really think so:
SE wants that gear to be gone from the market.
But at the same time, they don't want to piss you off if you just LOVE your old pink mage hat so much that you won't turn it into materia. That's why they won't just take it away but keep it from still being sold/traded/etc. so the market is safe and you can keep the only pink hat in the entire game.
Both sides happy, done.

Also, the whole 'dated' system on the old gear sorta felt like a perforated line to me. Figured it was only a matter of time before that page got torn out.

Should just wipe dated gear imo. NPC the dated gear during the migration for all characters. Having those items stick around in 2.0 is just pointless and an item database nightmare not just for the devs but for people running database websites like FFXIVPro, MoogleBox, YellowGremlin, etc.

Pretty sure you can convert untradable gear. I never heard them say anything about making them unique or unconvertable.

Problem is it isn't stupid, it is actual issue where many many players crafted items before hand like arrows and other items to take into 2.0 just to find out they are getting trashed pretty much. Though the masks really wasn't the greatest of ideas to say the least.

Who crafted that many arrows to matter to bring into 2.0 lol and the dated stuff has been known for a very long time that they wouldn't be in 2.0

Items being U/U doesn't prevent them from being converted. Look at primal weapons.

Actually, when the game came out, it was r/ex :P though was changed to u/u thanks to so many wow-players whining ^^ (oh, none of those plays anytmore htough ;) )
