Great news!
We will be shooting laser bows
There will be arrows, it will probably be the simplified shitty system of you need to buy 1 arrow and you're set. Also given their downgrade route, I bet different arrows won't even have diffferent masks, either.
Yay! Playing BRD won't take gil out of the pathetic amount I'll have left! XD
About time!
I'm guessing they're switching to quivers.
Makes sense since apparently ARC/BRD has ranged AA in ARR.
Carpenter just lost some money lol - or whoever made arrows. (unless quivers are really expensive...)
Hopefully it works the way ammo worked in FFXII, where you get different status effects to equip, such as "Paralyze Shot" and "Flame Shot." This would give a whole new mechanic to Archer/Bard!
Need to cap out on cobalt arrows soon and make some money before the game ends. :x
So that means bullets will likely also be 1 buy fits all if they ever implement a gun class, sad too since in most MMOs consumables are the general economy booster, because given leveling speed, making armor won't do much for anyone when you blow past levels.
Finally. I dislike carry stacks of the same items taking up inventory space, so this works out good.
And yet people make good money on Cobalt Arrows. So...trying to twist something around, failed. Maybe it's just the larger servers where the consumable markets are profitable, since unlike SB related gear like Deerstalker caps and Coral Rings, people seem to be very willing to buy stacks of 5-7k food.
quite honestly I'm not angry with this. rather relieved that they're doing it... it's very rare in an ff game that you have to keep a ton of arrows on you and when they did have it like that it was more annoying than helpful imo. So I don't mind this at all
I'm pretty sure the main reason they did this was the battle reform. Its more action oriented and ARC has ranged AA in ARR. So with ranged AA they expect people will hate not being able to control their arrows draining so fast.
Ok Seriously, Why?
How does removing arrows not putting in a little effort and making them a system with effects as others have said and evolving or improving the system benefit the game?
I don't consider pulling magical arrows out my ass a good move..
It's another simplifying something for no reason. arrow costs an issue sell em for 6gill for 99 or something not hard.
and removes another crafted item, and a small gil sink..
Oh well seems like every time they announce something i like they throw in something i don't..
Wonder if I'll get of the fence about it turning into just another average mmo before the beta lol..
I find the no-arrows/ammo thing to be a necessary evil to balance out the Archer/BRD class with other classes. Buying one thing to equip is one thing, but having a class you constantly have to buy a product for over and over again that is specifically for that character only sort of puts them at a disadvantage. I never cared for it. While it may not be as "realistic" to have a system where you don't have to buy hoards of arrows all the time, I don't exactly strive for real-world realism in my Fantasy games in all aspects. There's something to be said for Balance over so-called realism.
Or they could implement new arrow types that cause status effects or have other effects? Suddenly, cost is justified, ARC/BRD utility value is doubled.
Oh wait, I forgot SE want's BRD to be a mage class.
Either way, removing arrows is not the only way to balance the disparity.
Well it's not that you lose control of your attacks so to speak... AA is becoming even less of a big deal in ARR and a very small portion of your battle effort. It won't even effect TP gain anymore. So ranged AA was a no brainer tbh. After ranged AA is decided, the next logical step is quivers instead of consumable arrows.
This doesn't really balance out anything at all, you're just shifting where the money has to be spent. And suddenly now Archers may be spending more money than ever before on status effect arrows, especially if they're given over to the crafters who will jack up the price on the most important ones.
It's not about the cost being "justifiable". It's about the cost, period. No one should have to shell out money for their primary attack mechanism. CNJ and THM spells also have status impacts on enemies but no one needs to pay anything extra for them.
I don't think your solution holds water.
Good, I always thought that consumable arrows/ammo was among the dumbest ideas MMOs had.
It will be interesting thats for sure.
I don't like the sound of this. Blah.
I'm okay with this. No more worrying about inventory space, running out of arrows, etc. And no I am not poor or lazy, I just see it as one less thing to worry about.
The cost isn't the issue, it's the fact that, short of leeching, one cannot level ARC without constantly spending gil. Other jobs do not require this. How does it make sense for one, and only one job be required to spend gil to level when no other does? It doesn't matter if the cost is exuberant or paltry, it's still an uneven mechanic.
If other jobs doesn't want to be gimped yes they do constantly spend gil, also 999 arrows lasts a fair bit so you're not "constantly spending gil" unless your party is so gimped (because of no one else spending gil) that battles lasts to the point you're expending up to 100 per battle, yeah you have problems.
Though I can see what you mean, in a world of powerleveling one does not spend a single gil outside of weapons.
Are you ever able to make an argument not entirely based around hyperbole?
Couldn't care less about the change as long as CRP becomes useful through building furniture or something.
