Will ARR have less spam the same event over and over because of bad RNG drop rates?

One of the issues I have with the 1.X version of FFXIV is the horrible RNG. The drop rates on items are bad.

I been trying to get started on my relic quest. So I started joining a lot of pick up groups for hamelts in an attempt to get started. I have done about 20 hamlets so far in pick up groups usually get around 64-65k points. I seen seals drop maybe 50% of the time even then its only a 1/8 chance that you get one. All and all the RNG gods have not been in my favor and still have yet to get a seal. It's about a 6% chance for me to get a seal in any given run.

The thing is hamlets are like a 25 min snooze fest, I done whm, pld/war, doh. Slightly different but it's not really fun its just pretty easy and boring.

Will ARR do away with this kind of stuff? I rather do a lot if different content where I can see some progression being made and not be at the mercy of the RNG gods.

Seems like there is so little content in the game they use bad drop rates to artificially extend it? Will this trend continue or will be seeing a lot more varied content without the spam X event with a low drop rate hope you get lucky.

It was a lot of wasted time, makes me think I should stop joining hamlets till ARR.

20 Hamlets is a lot? I would cry tears of relief if i only had done 20.

I really doubt that will fly lol. Somethings going to end up with abismal drop rates and be spammed.

Might as well. With any luck they'll probably redo the Relic quest, seeing as how so few people do it now.

You can easily replace it with exponential drop rate tables or counters - which would focus more on skill and less on luck (completing it successfully with a assured or almost assured rate of achievement). Assured rates would also give reason to make the encounters more challenging even more emphasis on skill (since you know you arent wasting your time on lady luck).

We'll just be spamming different quests over and over instead.

20 hamlets haha. I gave up on my subligar around the 450 mark.

You could, but then you will have those people screaming "WoW" . . .

I don't think they're really talking about Relics when it comes to this. I think they're talking more about Primal weapons and more instanced content. In my opinion Relics should be heavy investments and not for everyone but a lot of the more basic stuff should be easier to get a hold of.

Relics can still 'not be for everyone' without extreme luck factors.

Asking for a sense of progression = being handed everything. You heard it here first.

We will never have to spam hamlet 100 times again... we will do 100 kill X mob quest instead.

FFXI does kill 100 mob for Empyreans, seemed better to me because it wasn't random chance and you know when you were gettting done.

The "extreme luck" factor get reduced in a static. And you need a static in some parts of the quest, so the best is to build a static in the beginning.

That more skilled person has a 13% chance of getting a seal VS a 100% of getting it in a static if you are up for it. Same 8 People means you will get it with those people. In a random party you are at the mercy of RNG every time you make a pug. Every time 8 people need seals, in a static that is not the case which is why it is better. Has nothing to do with win rate honestly... hamlet is sorta really easy.

It wouldnt be 100% drop rate either way. #1 will get his, but thats just for him. Youre just less at the mercy of RNG. its still there.

150 runs for seals( but done in linkshell) and militia tights, 200+ atm for militia robe just need to farm mats for hyrtsmill and ill get my robe while i get ls members seals useually get 1-2 members of ls done during a hamlet run that day.

honestly, being thrown at the mercy of the RNG is just tiresome.

It's necessary to a degree, but too often developers feel the need for draconian measures by forcing ridiculously low drop rates on events.

Again, this is what I loved about Abyssea. NMs would constant have shifting weaknesses, that could only be abused up to a point, to make things interesting. Drop rates in general (barring a few troublesome items) were pretty good in Abby, and it wasn't terribly hard to rack up a lot of time extensions (though, at times the RNG could be bit cruel with blue chests).


I'd like to see more of Matsui san's forward thinking in ARR. Thus far Yoshi P has proven to have a very good design plan, but some of the content has just been lacking, resorting to the tired tactic of crappy drop rates to compensate for increasing player strength or flawed (not bad) design.

IIRC, it's possible to get seal drop rates up to 100% - but your score has to be well over 80k, which requires a lot of time spent crafting or spamming caravan - neither of which is terribly fun. Engaging, challenging content that requires players to think and adapt each time you attempt it is the way to go, not forcing us to repeat the same drab thing over and over hoping for a better result.

Not really. You can clear 600 Lizards in 2-3 hrs or less in Abyssea with a Blue Mage.
