RMT, STF and GMs (again, probably) [Rep response please, polite thread]

Firstly, just take a look at the image for a second. I'm sure its not an unusual sight across the servers. Which is a shame.

Bit of back story. I was doing leves and behest at Bearded rock not too long ago (half hour?) and saw a guy there accepting trades from RMT farming parties. Remembering what happened last time I attempted to contact a GM about anything RMT related, I went to the support site and left a message, filled out correctly, with detail, and moved on to here [Cederwood] to continue my leves and behests.

Now, upon arrival... these.... things.... slowly began to spawn in swathes! This picture doesn't even do it justice out here....

Having just been to STF, and knowing the requesting a GM even come LOOK at this little lot will result in a robot sending me an email telling me to go to STF...

I have to ask what in the hell are we supposed to do next?

Support centre form field says something like:

"Reported characers: if more then one, seperate names with a "comma"."

HOW!?!?

"Max 300 byte characters"

Won't work!

Is it too much to hope that the STF will EVER leave feedback on its progress? Or will ever make any progress?

Further; I hope its not possible to change your character name come ARR, otherwise
"Bshgjhhgjhg Bjhjshjgjkjhg" might well become the next "Justin Beiber", be sold to a noob somewhere and vanish under the carpet without a trace like we all wish he would in reality! Ok, last bit, maybe just me.

I agree, been seeing way too much if this on my server. This needs to be dealt with, and decisively.

Maybe they just won't transfer them to the ARR servers. Wouldn't that be sweet justice?!

You know, trying to get SE to get rid of gold sellers is like asking a doctor to get rid of aids. It cant be done. If they ban they they will just keep coming back, and if they change the system to mess up their gil making schemes they will just find another way. In the end it's a waste of resources. The only way to get them to go away is if people stop buying, and that will never happen.

I'll just throw in my two sense on the subject of buying; if you buy you're an idiot. The prices are so exorbitant compared to how long it takes to make gil in this game it seems criminal.

As it's been said many times, these are all paying accounts that are helping fund the rebirth of XIV ARR whether you like it or not.

No one should ENJOY RMT but they will be in any game that has people stupid enough to buy in-game currency. To me, though it does seem as if it would be less than simple to deal with the problem. SE could decipher an RMT name from a normal name easily enough, but purging all of the accounts would just result in them losing some good revenue.

It's up to the Special Task Force Unit to save the day!

They're not affecting anyone else's gameplay. SE has to abide by they're own rules, and if they're not breaking the Terms of Service, then there isn't much SE can do accept keep an eye on them. Until they start with tells advertising their Web site there's no bannable offense here.

To the naysayers: Would you honestly trade damage to the game economy and community for a small number of short term subscriptions? The amount of revenue they are bringing in is likely not nearly as much to make this acceptable.

How many more subscriptions does it take for them to start advertising in shout channel with your blessing? Or using stuff like mooglebox, fantaji to do so?

Yeah, that's my underlying hope. So long as they're tracking them.

Believe me when I say, SE is well aware of the damage that RMTs can cause. They almost destroyed FFXI before SE saw thw light and clamped down, hard, on them. The problem here was one of priorities. SE needed to focus on, not only correcting the problems with Ver 1.0 but also develope ARR from the ground up. The vast majority of their alloted resources where devoted to these areas, as it should have been. If the past is any indication these problems will be addressed.

But aren't they using third party software to automate the characters into accepting the quests and what-have-you? I'm sure that's against the ToS, right?

Then again, I have never done botting or RMT, so I don't know what I'm talking about. But for one character to be doing the work of many, I'd say there were some shenanigans going on.

Ultimately SE reserved the right to ban someone for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

But it's in their best interest to play the good cop and do things by the books. That said, there's no way for SE to know if they're using a third-party program unless it affects in-game movement.

So far all they do is /follow each other.

The problem are the idiots who buy gil.

I mean in both xi and xiv gil is easy as hell to get and buying gil gives new meaning to being a lazy gamer. Even if you want to buy your double melds for your relics you can earn the gil in a few days if your determined.

With so many of these drecks on the screen moving about or just standing there, they cause my game to free and crash. So yes they do affect gameplay for the time being.

This. I mean we can try to ban RMT all we (SE, obviously, not us in particular) want, but the fact is and I've said this before that there is real money trading going on for EVERY online MMO out there and no game has been successful in eliminating it completely, so we're just going to have to accept RMT as a reality and move on with our lives.

The real answer to eliminating RMT is for people to stop buying the damn gil! Supply and demand works if there is a demand for the supply... and the chances of that happening are again slim to none.

So the chances of banning "all" RMT are slim to none.
And the chances of people just randomly up and deciding "Hey, I'm doing something dumb by buying gil" are slim to none

Therefor, conclusion?

Move on with your life.

What you need to do is, everyone goes out to Cedarwood and calls the GM saying that there are so many people standing around the Atherite when you try to do anything your game locks up and crashes.

Otherwise you could technically just bombard the Atherite with so many people you can cause the area to crash. If the Gil Sellers aren't present at their computers they won't log back in at least right away.

So you want SE to not ban them? Regardless of whether or not they come back after being banned, it's a win/win for us and SE:

• The ocean of gil they're all swimming in gets removed from the game before it can begin circulating in the already questionable economy
• The RMT buy more copies of the game, which results in more profit for Square

Aye the only difference though is SE has to find them again, but really unless SE does something to interrupt their gil-making process they just go back to doing exactly what they were doing before.

Clearly you've never tried to level at Natalan wolf camp on Gungnir server. There's a Chinese RMT there who will MPK any party that tries to level or spiritbond there. (S/He's cursed us in /sh and /s in Pinyin and talk about how s/he doesn't speak English.)

Also need to second Naraku. The huge influx of characters have definitely caused me to lag out and crash the game when I pass Cedarwood by chocobo or when I'm trying to get leves from Limsa.

I think there was someone like that on my server too. My LS was haveing a spiritbond party and someone shouted to leave the area. I could be wrong though.

Anywho, they've also pretty much permanently occupied the zombie spot down in Copperbell as well. Prevents people from PLing and doing that one quest.

Actually I get no lag whatsoever in Ul'dah. My laptop has an NVIDIA GeForce 555M GT with 3GB of RAM on the card. It's only near and around Cedarwood that I get immense lag and crashes at.

How about we just keep letting them play after Nov. 1. All those wasted farm hours.

That's why they should send emails and/or put a form for players to digitally sign if they want their name in the credits. Not just pick all players that played without asking.

Even though I want my character's name in the credits, I hope they'll ask me first regardless. :D

I remember Rukkirii posting something awhile back talking about how SE banned a lot of accounts, but they just keep coming back. Too lazy to find it, though.

At least there is some acknowledgement of the situation and action being taken. Would be nice if the STF could do the old-style monthly/quarterly reports again :)

I have no lag whatsoever in Ul'dah. None. It's just Cedarwood because of all the RMTs cluttered close together and there are some lead RMT players moving around and summoning those monsters from the Faction Leve. My graphics card can handle Ul'dah because of the RAM.
