Not me. They clearly needed a ranged, magic and pet class in the game. Summoner takes care of two of the three and is a smart decision.
I don't want to see a XI RDM, it would also be redundant. A fightign class mage with out nukes but magic enhanced abilties, enfeebs and party support while engaged in malee would be better, then yes, I arathr they make a job like that then another hashed mage back job. Make BLM BLM, and forget about Arch
red mage may or may not be what you want to play.
same gos with summoner but we have a better idea of what it is then red mage.
I'd rather see SMN
I'd like to see RDM once the game has an enfeebler class already. RDM is a front line sword fighting jack of all trades, not the abomination it became in XI and the last thing I want to see is for that to happen again.
SE do RDM justice in XIV.
SMN>RDM That is all ^.^
would have preferred a Gun Class. Preferred it in beta and still waiting on it :/
I don't mind either way, I'm just glad I'll (hopefully) have something fresh to level up with the new ARR story.
Summoner for Nerds? Hmm.. I guess I'm a nerd for having Pets.. you know.. like 3/4ths of Earths population has.. " A Pet" Yeah were just nerds for having a Squirrel for a pet! <3 ( I love that Blue Squirrel) I hope we can have him out like " Free Carby" :D
Rdm was my main job in XI for 7yrs so I would of liked to see RDM
I would like to see them eventually add a PUP where they can have a RDM puppet.
personally i love both Rdm and SMN, But i lean more towards SMN cause the game needs more Mages and Pet jobs so SMN would cover that.
I just want SE to release more than one job at a time otherwise it will just be a repeat of WoWs death knight.
Summoner is totally what I wanted. XD
We already have a Red Mage.
In Final Fantasy XIV it's called a Gladiator(or whatever melee class you want really) loaded out with both CNJ and THM abilities.
Totally agreex.x I long for the day of a true front line spell sword and if given the right abilities, a rdm could be an excellent addition to the front line battles! Possibly they can give themselves aura buffs that extend to the pt:D
And don't blame SE for what happened to rdm...<_< I mean...look at what happened to nin
I preffer both :p.
Red Mages key ability is going to have to be the fact is uses melee attacks.
You have White Mage that can DD if it wants with spells, it can enfeeble, and it can heal. How different could Red Mage be in the current system of abilities. Yes they are being redone for 2.0, but nothing has been said about the dumb 15 amility limit being taken away.
Because of the current system I don't want to see a new enfeeble class, I'd rather these an all-purpose DD caster, not one that specializes in one field.
I was thinking Smn could do that, but who knows. 4 magic users that can Heal, DD, and enfeeble... so do better than others but only situationally. Need more variety.
So long as RDM is what RDM should be - average at melee, average at healing, average at magic DD with no high end spells. It should be the Jack of all trades - not the King, not even the Queen.
It should shiny when the healer goes down, or the black mage is down, or the melee goes down.
Summoner. Red mage can come later. Summoner brings a lot of unique gameplay aspects that are absent from the game currently. Red mage wouldn't introduce anything particularly exciting at this point.
Kind of a silly remark as FFXI nailed the FF Red Mage persona to a tee. Able to cast white & black magic, to wield a sword and shield, had def and offensive melee properties. All this while still maintaining it not being as strong as the jobs it borrowed from.
If FFXIV2.0 had Red Mage in it, it would have to be the same exact thing... As that is what a Red Mage is. You say "redundant" because this is one of the few companies to release a sequel mmo for the same franchise. Using the same lore and Jobs and species for the foundation of that lore is standard. An original story plot is the only thing that needs to be new. So you can't say using the same jobs from the FF universe is redundant...specifically "I dont want to see ffxi red mage" when that red mage is the same red mage from FF1.
as taken fromt he wiki:
Red Mages typically cast both Black and White Magic and can also wield swords and equip armor that normal Black and White Mages cannot. They are, in essence, among the more versatile characters of the series. However, their versatility comes at a price: their stats are usually low, and they cannot cast higher level spells or use stronger equipment. They can learn many spells, but not the strongest, and equip some heavy armor, but not all of it.
Thus, the Red Mage is a jack-of-all-trades, but a master of none. In certain games, Red Mages have a special ability such as Dualcast which boosts their spell casting efficiency. The standard Red Mage attire consists of red, black, and white clothing, including a red cloak with white or black trimmings, black boots and a red cap with a white feather.
Thus the fact remains:

I would have liked to see red mage first, or even blue; however, I can't argue with them bringing in another more magic focused job.
Not really, although Jobs were never originally planned in FFXIV's design (Tanaka even said he wanted to keep away from the traditional FF jobs in FFXIV) there was a musketeer class designed for the Alpha of 1.0. Musketeer even has an unused guild in Limsa and looking at the types of weapons GLA uses there are no rapier, epee, or other fencing type weapons in GLA's arsenal or in the game at the moment.
Besides that, functionally GLA to RDM does not work in the slightest. You'd be pushing a very defensively focused class into a magical DD focused environment, who would only have the lowest tiers of magic from their cross-class abilities and have little to go off of outside of their job specific actions to strengthen itself.
The only thing is that RDM wouldnt be half blm or half whm without pissing off the BLMs lol. So take away that for a moment, will they keep the enfeeble? most likely even though IMO enfeebeles mean nothing in this game. the EN spell they better have these, and it better be exactly like the thing we saw in the 1.0 trailer and make the weapons glow with the elemental color. If they get refresh and haste like in 11 they better get the GOD DAMN AOE VERSIONS F%^K THE CYCLES lol.
This is technically a rdm/summoner
I really really really really really want Red Mage!...but. I have to be fair about this. Musketeer should probably be/have been the next choice. GLA with THM and CNJ abilities really is enough of a RDM to keep me happy for now.
Actually, what I really hope for is multiple job slots so that a Gladiator can equip both WHM and BLM to become a RDM.
If they stick with just one job slot, though, I could go for some RDM off of Musketeer (as a class with elemental bullets). They've already got the outfit. Just replace the sword with a gun and you're set!

Can't tell if fake or leak <_< good job lol
I think RDM was done right, at least in regards to accurate portrayal according to lore. B grade swordsmanship, access to all but the highest tiers of black and white magic. Problem is it didn't seem to take into account that it was placed in an MMO setting.
Problem was the playerbase pushed em to the back line alongside White and black mages. It was rare to see it used as anything other than a healing haste/refresh monkey. God help you if you drew your weapon to smack something in a party setting, you'd never hear the end of it.
The inherent problem with a jack of all trades job in an MMO environment is that adequate will never be seen as good enough. If you're an ok meelee/magic damage dealing job and anything better is available, guess what will be fulfilling the DD role? Not you. I'm sure I don't need to point this out, but the group that's always overpopulated in the MMO Holy trinity is damage dealing classes. And if you're an ok healer...well you're still a healer and in every MMO i've played healers are the scarcest role, so guess where you'll be pressed into service. Just look at XI's Summoners, stuck healing from about level 10 until the late 60s/early 70s just because they had the mana pool to scrape by in the healing role with whm subbed.
I'll go ahead and say it, if Redmage were to do anything other than buff/heal it would need to be a Spellsword capable of respectable damage. Not bottom rung, not "mediocre," I mean right there alongside the other damage dealing classes.
Edit: On topic, there are other things I would like to see rather than either. But between those released and Redmage, my honest preference is Redmage. To be honest though, an FF title needs a few core things. At this point it wouldn't feel like a Final Fantasy title without both Redmage (or something close to) and Summoner. But that's just me.
Well, if you want to port everything over from FFXI wholesale, sure. But this is a chance to break free, to give RDM a new role that isn't shackled to being a refresh/haste-bot!
And, I mean, one off-combo has already happened (*cough*ARC/BRD*cough*) to give RNG a cheap-shot in the gut. COR really just had that one showing in the series, after all. >_>
