During the Q&A with YoshiP, he revealed around the 52 minute marker of the session from a question about job design, he revealed something pretty big. He took answers from the crowd of what weapons players would want to see in game and here are the ones he called out by name and said are one of the weapons for one of the new jobs:

Whip

So, my vote its going to be Crossbow...what do you guys think?

I'm kinda hoping for both crossbow and hammer, he said the whip would be hard to animate so that's out, yoyo was also a no given his reaction.

Twin, handheld crossbows. Something that could easily skin pistols over.

In the same breath he said whip, he said we're not getting it.

Crossbows are boring. I hope it's the Blitzball since someone shouted it out and held an actual blitzball in the air and he regarded it.

To be fair, he didn't actually specify that any of the things he repeated out loud was a correct answer, just that he heard someone say the correct one (and there were a lot of people shouting different things).

Given his response and expression alone, it actually feels to me that he responded more to hammer than anything else (and that could/would fit the Norse theme of the expansion) but we'll have to see.

I’m thinking throwing axes or hammers for the ranged dps.

As already stated, YoahiP didn't specifically say he listed one of the 2 jobs, just that someone called it out. That being said, my guess is Hammer. YoshiP's shirt featured Rhitahtyn sas Arvina. Rhitahtyn translates to "right judge." Judges have gavels. So I'm going with a Judge type tank wielding two handed hammer. I know some people are thinking either dual shields or gun shield but that's just too literal.

Someone also said fists. And he was wearing a Rhitahtyn shirt. Maybe the new tank is dual wielding shields and uses them to punch.

Bomb? So a sort of Grenadier job?

Yo-Yo? Kind of the one most out there and not on peoples radars.

Thorlike job would be so fun for ranged

On the first day of fanfest when Tank and Ranged was confirmed. I tossed the idea of ranged could be something like a "Yo-yo master" to my friends.

Yo-yos are whip like while not being a whip. You send it out and it comes right back. I can even see a fun victory emote that is just walking the dog as the animation.
As for the string. It can be kept as a straight line most cases or even just a battle effect and not a physical part of the weapon's model.
Plus, it doesn't need to be the size of a normal Yo-yo. It can be the size of a ... Blitzball! Plus, Yo-yos have been used as weapons before. Bridget being a popular example.

Plus, when they did the Q&A Yoshi-P said Yo-yo would be easy. For him to say that it could very well mean it's been tested before. So, while not for sure locked in for 8.0 a Yo-yo could end up as a weapon for a job someday.

I think crossbow is too basic and it has to be something unique and new.

We already have a crossbow lb2 and machinist has the auto-crossbow.

I'm thinking P.Ranged is going to be an arm cannon.

The only other P.Ranged weapon I can think of is a slingshot that isn't something the FF series that hasn't already been done as a full on job

Crossbow is a bit samey but I'd still love a crossbow and maybe like a little Falcon-mammet worn as a bracer for a Valkyrie/ Valkner job. birb!

I feel like a Hammer would be too similar in animation to a WAR's Axe. Heck, there's some Axes that ARE Hammers already. Dual Wielding two 1h Hammers, though...

I was thinking similar, make Musketeer (the guild has been in Limsa since forever) a real Job, and use Evolved to make it more about the guns, and move MCH even harder into the multitool-Edgar thematics, rather than the half-and-half that MCH currently is. Could bring back the old Ammo system as a gameplay element for it, or even evolve it a bit in some way, like making each shot have an elemental aspect and combos unleash bonus damage effects, inspired by FF Unlimited

Musketeer is technically a 'FF14 unique' Job because other games didn't call it Musketeer specifically

He WAS wearing a shirt with Hildibrand and Nashu on it. Maybe it’s a bomb throwing job based on Nashu for the ranged dps. Maybe Bombardier.

I think crossbow is the most realistic one, and I can see that fitting the new evolved combat style over really anything else. It's an obvious fantasy that XIV doesn't really have yet. I'm going with crossbow here with the ability to change ammo types with more reactive gameplay, if evolved combat is anything to go by.

Bombs. Different from the other options and the class would probably be heavy into Goblin lore.

Crossbow - Already have Mechanist and Bard
Hammer - Big hammer is basically Warrior and you can get one in the shop for all the 2h classes. Little hammer is limted in what you can do with it visually.
Gun and Sword - Temu Gunbreaker
Flail - Pain to animate
Yo-Yo - Stupid
Whip - Big pain to animate

Coming back to this thread, it'd have to be the same thing but in eorezan terminology and how it changed.

Like for crossbows, it can't be ranger, as that is a preexisting job. But it could be like how viper is to rogue in being a spiritual successor. So something simplistic like "hunter".

For gun and sword, that is easy, it'd likely be called privateer. As the only pirates left are outlaws who don't want to follow Merlwyb's Galladion Accord. Any who did agree with her would be sanctioned and therefore be privateers.

I can kind of see gun + sword, go for a bloodborne inspired ranged physical DPS that plays similar to Red Mage with the back and forth attacks.

Though it could just be crossbow + sword so MCHs don't get too upset.

Unless it's both a gun AND a sword that happens to fire actual rounds. I can't recall but doesn't Lightning's original weapon fit that description?

I want the phys ranged to be Blitzballer real bad tbh. After seeing PCT make it past the cutting room floor it got my hopes up just a little.

Out of the ones listed I'd like a job that uses a flail because those are wicked visually, even if they are impractical. Seeing a dude in For Honor with one outright sold me to try that game rofl. Also Dragon Nest if anyone played that, paladin could use a flail and I had to try. Scythes and flails are my jam for more exotic yet not too outlandish options in fantasy/medieval-themed games.

Corsair still on the cards? Still disappointed VPR was not COR.

Wouldn't rule out hammer just because warrior has some thunking animations and a couple hammer glams though. Warrior also has a "scythe" for a pvp weapon glam, BLM has the Deepshadow Scythe and ofc there's the Blackbosom Scythe for many jobs. Didn't stop reaper from happening.

FFX is my favorite FF but throwing a sports ball at people as an entire job feels too ridiculous to me. I wouldn't be upset if that was the job, but I want something like dual pistols/hand crossbows, crossbow, big boomerang, etc over it.

If you pay close attention, she fires projectiles on top of her blade moveset. She hurls magic though I doubt they'd let us do the same on a phys ranged DPS unless it's rune coded or something. (would be pretty cool to use a little mana). DRK uses MP as an example yet they're a tank.

I mean, Gunbreaker was considered original yet inspired by Squall. Viper inspired by Zidane. Sage and Reaper (FF Type-0?) are more original creations so it wouldn't be too far fetched if "Gunsaber" is the new weapon type.

Though I wouldn't be opposed to the Dishonored/Bloodborne job. That would be more original.

I agree crossbow+whip are too uninspiring, and BST having a whip was already passed on. None of the Garlean weapons are usable either, so there won't be an exact replica of Rhitahtyn.

Blitzball is unlikely so long as they refuse to break open the FFX floodgate, and they're currently opting for FFVII instead. With that in mind...

Outfits and minions from a fanfest, Yojimbo and Anima as bosses, Hrothgar as a playable race referencing a whole FFX race and named as such on a different shard with Ronso characters used as place names, and the Pelupelu as an allied society with Rin’s Travel Agency theme as their theme music.

This pales in comparison to every other FF from I-XII: most have an entire series of instanced content, a variety of characters/weapons/enemies/locales, and a plethora of music rolls. The floodgate is still intact.

Clearly we are getting our long overdue Nero gunhammer storyline. Ranged DPS, of course.
