PLEASE fix the older ARs

Dear SE,

My friend started the game a couple years ago and is now finally done with EW. We have been trying to get her through the Myths of the Realm quests for 2 days now and Euphrosyne just won't pop in DF.

We spent 7(!) hours queued in DF yesterday during prime time (started around 7:30pm) and have spent another 2.5 hours in DF today and nothing. Meanwhile AR roulettes are popping every few minutes - just never to fill the queue that I created hours ago. How?

It's a bit hard to believe that in 2.5 hours there weren't 22 people running AR roulette that you could have matched with us. How does this system work? Or not work, more accurately.

Please fix this - especially if you want new players to catch up to current content without growing so frustrated they'll quit the game before that.

A lot of people don't bother unlocking alliance raids or doing roulette on lower level jobs for the sake of levelling.
What's the incentive to actually unlock higher level ARs? Do they give more exp? No. Do they give more tomestones? No. Do they even provide unique rewards that are worth farming? Save for first Nier raid that had glamour gear set, no. The most efficient way to do alliance roulettes is to enforce crystal tower, one way or another, and most efficient way will be the way most of the people will do it.

they adjusted exp gain from some a-raids at some point during EW. especially the lvl 90 raids are pretty good on the exp side

but people dont care, they just wanna go fast and braindead.

Yes, which is exactly a factor that could be addressed...

It's just such a pity that there's so much dead content in this game that's actually not bad at all - just boring or even impossible to play without others. Myths of the Realm is REALLY good, in fact.

At the very least add more NPC support?

The queue finally popped half an hour ago.

Some of the old alliance raids have excellent glam (looking at Shadowbringers and Endwalker here; a couple pieces from the 2nd EW raid make it into my glams frequently, and I like the combat gear from the 3rd ShB raid), although the loot system makes it harder to get them than I would like. Also I find most of the old alliance raids pretty fun to run. So I welcome them when they show up in roulettes.

Advice for the OP: if you’re on Dynamis (I get a feeling you are), do a datacenter travel to a more populous server. I recommend Primal or Crystal. Your queue time will be much better. Generally if you’re queuing for anything optional, and to a lesser extent even required MSQ content at a high level, you’ll have an easier time the more populous the datacenter you’re on.

I'm European, and this was on Light (our busy one), so already where I figured we'd have the best chances - but thanks anyway!

Alliance raid roulette requires other people to unlock said alliances, with only Crystal Tower being mandatory. Getting people to unlock the rest can be tricky though because you have those that:

A. Don't know the other ones exist and miss getting them.
B. Don't want to unlock the rest on purpose for one reason or another.

Personally I'm not a fan of ARs myself and kinda regret unlocking Mhach/Ivalice/Nier, to the point I just stopped using the roulette to avoid being dragged into them.

Some have suggested making all ARs mandatory like Crystal Tower for MSQ progress, but this is a terrible idea because putting aside how most of the ARs have no relevance to the MSQ to justify forcing people into them (Myths of the Realm being perhaps the only other one next to Crystal Tower), it would more than likely cause a drop-off in players as people get stuck behind an AR they refuse to do. I never finished Nier myself, and if you told I HAD to do it to get out of Shadowbringers, I would have just stayed trapped in Shadowbringers then.

An alternative and far better idea would be to make unlocking ARs mandatory to use the ROULETTE ITS SELF as its purpose was to help fill queues where one literally gambles to be placed anywhere in exchange for bonus rewards. This would inevitably push both those who don't know or purposely skip other ARs to seek them out (like it or not) if they want to continue using the alliance raid roulette function.

I would even go a step further in improving alliance raid roulette rewards (to make it harder to pass up) and would be so bold as to say ALL ROULETTES should work this way (so no more just unlocking the first two Alexander fights to use normal raid roulette). Mentor roulette already works this way, no reason the others shouldn't too. Just make the "required fights" MSQ dependent (IE: If you have finished Shadowbringers, you must have everything up to Nier and Eden unlocked along with any other optional dungeons and trials) rather than making it level or ilvl locked because its entirely possible for a person to be 80+ and not be done with Endwalker or Dawntrail yet, especially on data centers with the Preferred status XP boost, so a person shouldn't be blocked out of the roulettes if they've been unlocking everything properly so far (and will keep unlocking as they finish EW and DT).

The reason this occurs is because the probability of 1 in 22 people being on a level 50-59 job is extremely high, combined with the sheer number of people that queue for Crystal Tower for the MSQ and due to it being the lowest level one to unlock.

It's similar to why more often than not, Normal Raid roulette is Fist of the Father - the very first and lowest level one possible.

In both cases, the main exception is the max level ones, which also pop quite frequently in roulettes due to the sheer number of direct queues for max level raids.

It's not something that SE can really fix without reducing the number of people required for old Alliance Raids, or implementing NPC complements for shortages.

I am personally hyper fond of the YoRHa glams, and one of my long term goals is to gather all of them, I already have all Type-51 sets, and I am glad I have them.

Which is exactly why they should block not unlocking the other ones

Using them for levelling is okay but if you intentionally only unlock crystal tower you are straight up a drain on the roulettes resources and you shouldn’t be rewarded for it, you aren’t helping you are a waste of resources

You should not be able to use the alliance or Normal raid roulette without every single one unlocked possible for your current level

There's a ton of ways to fix this - this is one of them.
I'm not suggesting any specific way, I'd just really like for them to give this some thought and make it accessible again to those players who wanna run them.

Yeah, it's hard to get even a PF going for old EW ARs, even when I said it was unsync'd for glam farm there were often no one else would join me, as I waited 1 hour alone there.

I would say that I would keep trying on prime time for a few days to be sure, as DF at least has a chance to fill on its own as alot of the DT relics require you to do ARs for a step.

It could easily be addressed. I would personally love to farm alliance raids, if there was something worthy out of them. But alas, SE decides to put all the effort into mog station store only nowadays.

In this case, rewards for doing AR roulette needs to be bumped significantly, to the point where one run grants you 5 levels at high level or gives you a whole tomestone cap, because otherwise you'll be looking at a roulette that has garbage rewards and is not worth to unlock at all. And so you just won't have people for these raids anyway.

In the case of the alliance roulette a small group of people who have everything unlocked is BETTER than a large roulette full of crystal tower only people simply because people with only CT unlocked are an active drain on the roulette. Like you actively don’t want them there

New players will drag you into CT anyway. It takes only 1 new player or player below level 60 to drag 23 other people into CT. And you are significantly shrinking pool of candidates for roulette by excluding people who don't have all alliance raids unlocked.

For example, I have CT unlocked, first two Nier raids and Endwalker raids. I will occasionally queue in and occasionally it will be Nier/Myths. Would you really like to exclude players who have only partial unlocks? Cause I won't be going out of my way unlocking other raids unless rewards are extraordinarily good.

Or, alternatively: require unlocking of all alliance raids for roulette, sure. But also give us a button that says: "I do not care about alliance raids stories, just unlock them all right now". Then it will become such a non issue.
By the way, similar approach could be used for optional dungeons, optional trials and normal raids. Am I going to bother unlocking them all just so they can proc in roulette? Hell no. Will I, however, press a button to instantly unlock all of them? May as well.

I've been doing unlock quests as they become available, but I pretty much only do ARs through the roulette. Trying to queue for them directly hasn't really worked, and I've had more success just letting them show up randomly. The only alliance raids I haven't finished are ones from Endwalker. Euphrosyne will show up eventually... Probably.

If you are too lazy to unlock the raids then you just don’t get the roulette

More people would probably unlock newer raids if they weren't such a slog to get through. You can do two runs of a Crystal Tower raid in the time it takes you to do one run of Dun Scaith or any of the Nier raids it feels like.
The bosses need to have their HP lowered.

Myself I haven't unlocked the EW raids on this char because I find them boring. I don't like the aesthetic, I don't like the music, I don't like the lore, I don't find most of the mechanics engaging, and they just feel like a slog. The last boss is such a chore with its interminable sequential reproduction of some mechanic of every other boss. Urgh.

I used to be even more disappointed when I got aglaia than when I got syrcus tower.

It's not about it taking time versus CT being fast to clear though. I'm happy to sit through a long raid that I enjoy. I like San Doria a lot for instance.

The problem is, it's low xp roulette. For it to be wanted by players so much that they'd be ready to go through hours of unlocking alliance raids, it needs to offer far, far more than it currently does.
It basically only worth if you get CT raid, otherwise you better off just queueing regular dungeon of your level manually.

Alicie DOES have a point that alliance raid roulette could yield better rewards, and that the time it takes to clear Mhach and beyond could be reduced by re-tuning boss HP, otherwise it does indeed feel like a waste to run alliance raid roulette right now for most people. It's one thing to take away the carrot if they refuse to do the work, its another for them to do the work and then give them half a carrot. But then I already said as much before that I'm fine with making all ARs unlocked being a requirement to use AR roulette, in exchange for making the roulette reward better to make unlocking access too tempting to ignore. Make people WANT that bunch of carrots for whatever work is given to them.

Boss tuning is another discussion I suppose, but it feels like people would at least agree with it for Nier it seems. I haven't met anyone yet who doesn't think they're a slog compared to the rest because apparently their HP pools are indeed bigger. (Or maybe ilvl shenanigans makes us hit weaker, I'm not sure.)

The problem isn't that the other raids are a slog but that CT is too easy and too fast.
The roulettes aren't there for fast rewards but to fill the duties for first timers.

People have basically forgotten that an A-raid is not supposed to be like CT but more like the other raids.

I don't think the roulette itself should offer better rewards.

Just re-scale the old alliance raids. Sadly, short of mandating unlocking a turn from each expansion, there's nothing they can do because they lacked very fundamental foresight when mandating crystal tower... So there will always be that massive disparity.

All people want is a roulette that ends as soon as it pops and gives 50 levels of XP. Is that really too much to ask?

Dunno, I haven't used alliance raid roulette for months after it got "ruined" by stuff other than Crystal Tower.

For me at least, it's not worth it to get dragged into Mhach/Ivalice/Nier, especially when I get no AIN, no drops, a repair bill that voids what little gil I earned, and I can get almost as many poetics if I just do combat society quests in the same day.

It's also why the whole "well I guess you just don't get the rewards then" is such a non-threat because I'm getting by just fine without them, with the added bonus that I'm not negatively affecting somebody's run by dying on "brain dead" content for the umpteenth time.

CT is the outlier not the expected base. If you can only tolerate AR’s when they are as brainless and fast as CT then you don’t even want to be doing alliance raids you want to be doing free XP like the MSQ roulette

Desire to do that shouldn’t override what the roulettes are actually for which is filling the queues for people who are obviously struggling to pop the higher level AR’s

If y'all are on EU datacenter, and it's a newer player, I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and ask if your friend is trying to do a 24 man alliance raid with only one language in the checkbox checked.

Finding 24 people in duty roulette queue for a 24 man raid when you are willing to play with anyone? Possible.

Finding 24 people who are willing to play if you only are willing to play with people with German or French checked on the box? Much more difficult, because it sets aside that instance as a French only or German only (or English only or Japanese only) run.

One of the first things I learned to do in Duty Finder on my alt characters on the EU servers is check all 4 language boxes, and use auto translate for basic greetings but otherwise stay silent in roulettes, for the most part.

Duty Finder defaults you to only your localization language and you have to manually check all the other boxes.

If the requirement to participate in alliance roulette is to unlock ALL raids from ALL expansion, I want at least 5 levels per roulette.

IMO the solution would be to lock people out of alliance roulette unless they have unlocked at least the first raid in the highest-level series for the job they're queueing with, assuming they can unlock the raids at that moment.

For example:
lv100 job that has finished base DT: unlock Jeuno to run the roulette
lv60 job that has finished base HW: unlock Void Ark to use the roulette
lv80 job that still hasn't finished ShB for some reason: unlock Rabanastre to run the roulette

I think this would provide the best balance because it wouldn't force people to unlock and run Every Single Raid just to do dailies, but would still push a bit more variety into the roulette. And if you don't want to unlock or run a specific series of raids, you wouldn't be permanently locked out of the roulette, just until you finished the next expansion's base MSQ.
(ie - a lv80 job that doesn't want to unlock the ShB raids would be locked out of the roulette until finishing base EW, which would change the requirement to "unlock Aglaia" instead)

That wouldn't really solve the problem, unless you mean the first of the current tier plus all previous ones.

Aglaia popped fairly quickly, Euphrosyne and Thaleia took forever, and that's been a theme throughout - the first ARs in a tier are fine; 2 and 3 take ages to fill.

Right, which is why I have no problem with locking AR roulette behind needing all ARs because the roulette is supposed to serve a function beyond handing out XP, and people have been abusing it for far too long.

But I also acknowledge that doing this might still cause a lot of people to avoid unlocking ARs anyway because they don't feel the roulette bonus is worth it to them anymore, which then leaves the players waiting for higher level pops waiting even longer as all the Crystal Tower-only players abandon the roulette entirely. It's creating a "do it or else" situation and then having to accept that more people than not will choose "else". They go from being a "waste of resources" to a "null resource" as it were as the overall number of people doing the AR roulette decreases.

One could argue its a case of "quality over quantity" though where in exchange for slower roulette queues and being rid of CT-lifers, that the variety of fights improves and only those committed/good enough for ARs actually show up anymore.

Exactly this, which is especially important on Dynamis where players can easily over-level but still be further behind in the MSQ. By making the AR roulette requirement MSQ dependent rather than level dependent, it prevents unnecessary lockouts for players who can't entirely control their rate of leveling and/or take their time through each expansion.

Again this is a roulette, you are getting rewarded for helping other people fill their queues, you shouldn’t be able to mix and match it full stop. That’s how the roulette should work

If you think it’s too much effort to unlock everything you shouldn’t be doing a roulette, because again you are a literal active hinderance to people trying to fill their queues

If you CAN have a raid unlocked it SHOULD be unlocked in order to have access to the roulette, this should apply to everything, the 50/60/70 roulette, the alliance roulette and the normal raid roulette

Have you tried asking for help in PF or by shouting in cities? That's how I keep getting people to help when I'm on an alt or helping a friend do old stuff. I'll go to major city hubs and shout something like...

"Join Puppet's Bunker queue! Trying to get it for my friend and we need people! We'd really appreciate the help! Thank you!"

Just once per hub. Don't wanna make it annoying. It's a method that has yet to fail me.

Even people that were playing before it was made mandatory have talked at length about how they avoided unlocking any other ARs because it makes the roulette less efficient. It being retroactively shoved into the MSQ made the roulette much more skewed towards CT, but it was already skewed.

I'm only pointing out that if it does get implemented this way (and it should, I'm not arguing against it), it will likely increase roulette queue times as a bunch of people decide the roulette reward isn't worth unlocking access to the roulette. I know this because I have more than Crystal Tower unlocked for ARs and sure enough, the risk of doing Mhach/Ivalice/Nier isn't worth the roulette reward to me anymore so I avoid it completely. I get nothing, they get to wait longer, perfectly fair.

Unlocking access to all content to use a roulette should be obligated, but nobody is obligated to unlock the roulette and then queue into it, that's all.

The only concession I would even remotely humor is the before-mentioned hypothetical "level 80 that still hasn't finished SHB needs to unlock Mhach and Ivalice minimum, and then Nier AFTER they finish SHB to keep using AR roulette" because over-leveling CAN happen on Dynamis, and the player in question may not be trying to dodge unlocking ARs at all in the first place.

Like, maybe they did unlock Mhach and Ivalice up until then, but can't unlock Nier yet, so denying them the AR roulette because they're 80+ and haven't finished SHB isn't quite right, but immediately locking AR roulette post-SHB until they unlock Nier is totally fair due to their placement in the MSQ rather than their actual level. And if they didn't unlock Mhach, Ivalice, or Nier at any point they get no AR roulette period.

Subsequently, this would require EVERYONE who is done with Dawntail up until now MUST have everything up through San d'Oria unlocked to use the AR roulette, no exceptions, because they're already caught up in the MSQ unlike the example level 80. (And their AR roulette will absolutely get locked again once the third-tier of Echoes arrives, and become available again only when its cleared.)

What's the incentive to actually unlock higher level ARs? Do they give more exp? No. Do they give more tomestones? No. Do they even provide unique rewards that are worth farming? They literally do give better exp what are you saying? Spamming aglaia for leveling from 90-100 is actually pretty good if you want to farm glam and exp.

Overleveling happens on data centers other than Dynamis. I was overleveled for most of the MSQ. I ended up rotating between jobs, partially because I wanted to try them but also to soak some of the surplus exp. Otherwise, I'd have hit 100 well before finishing Endwalker. Even for someone who goes out of their way to grab the unlocks as they go through msq, there's still some delay in completing the raid tiers.

How did people come to the conclusion that running the CT raids was most efficient? I keep seeing it said, but can't find anything to back it up.
