We should be able to swap jobs within the same category in first minute of instance

Sometimes I queue as sage and then in trial the other guy is also sage. In this case I might want to swap to astro to avoid shields overwriting each other and optimize healing.

I think the game should only lock you into the job category not the specific job you queued as. Tank, healer, melee physical dps, ranged physical dps, magic dps

I think having the option to swap jobs in the same category throughout the whole instance would be cool. :)

It would certainly be interesting if I could swap between MCH/DNC/BRD while going through a dungeon/alliance raid, and I say that as someone who doesn't normally play DNC & BRD.

Agreed. It is possible in some other MMORPGs (usually by changing spec). It is even possible in Variant dungeons I think? It would instantly solve problems with "the healer left" or "the tank left" or "that player isn't doing the job well enough".

At the very least, being able to switch to jobs within the same role would help, then you could switch to RDM and be a rezzer/healer if one left for example.

Heck, if they aren't going to give us full max-level rotation for Alliance Roulette, then this would be the next best thing. CT would be a heck of a lot more bearable (and I'd be significantly less inclined to drop out) if I could queue as BLM but swap out to literally anything else if a CT instance popped up.

Wish they would do something about the lost rotation on level downsync. It's so counter productive to building muscle memory when you have to play a different way in each dungeon. It's also boring af in the very low level dungeons since you only have like 2 buttons to use most of the time. I want my full rotation with downscaled potency.

It would certainly be helpful in situations where there are duplicated jobs and such.

Though here are few things come to mind that might make this harder to implement than imagine:

・Gearing: Many duties have item level requirements, and if they let you switch between jobs within the same role/category, it needs to be able to keep track of the information for other jobs that can be switched to, otherwise we might end up not clearing duties due to someone switching to a job forgetting the weapon item level is unsuitable (let say it is accidentally since intentional would be reportable).

・EXP: From what we can observe from Frontline, the EXP reward would most likely be going into the job that players queued with, which lead to players having easy access to levelling a job without actually playing the job, although it is already possible with Frontline right now, it would be much quicker for players to level in such way if it applies to all the other duties (not necessarily be a bad thing but might not be what SE wants).

・Glamour: A sillier one but if you have jobs that share gear but are linked to different glamour plates, switching between them in a duty instance would obviously break the portrait, at least the glam breaking on the character itself is sloved by the restriction lift in 7.4.

It would sure be handy to have when healer or tank dies.

For Roulettes, it would definitely be helpful to be able to change Jobs at the start within your role (Tank, Healer, Melee, Caster or Ranged), if you have the ilvl requirements on the Job you want to swap to. Being able to swap until someone enters combat for the first time would be reasonable to me.

It'd mostly be useful on Healers since SCH and SGE don't really work well with each other or with duplicates because you can't stack Adloquim or Eukrasia.

In 1.0 you could change at any time but they changed it. We would swap and change to suit the mechanics.

I think it should have stayed but then they gutted a lot from 1.0 lol

We can change jobs inside treasure map vaults as long as we're not currently in combat but it does incur a cooldown on that changed job's abilities I suppose to prevent abuse, but I imagine there must be a way to get it to work inside the other duties as well.

We Should be able to swap jobs in any instance period, not in the same category... like if a healer leaves and you dont want to wait 3 business days for a healer to fill.

Actually I think they changed this in recent time because I was in a map party together with my FCmates couple of days ago, and we could not change job under any circumstances once inside, which sort of mystified us all.

Thank you, wasn't aware they had suddenly changed, I've only been hoarding instead of running those maps lately.

Good take and it should lock the way PvP does so that you get EXP on the job you queued in with. Every expac, I end up subjecting roulettes to me playing DRG, which is absolutely miserable.

Avoiding all this is why I said "within the same job category". It would create too much issues and annoying behavior and just undermine the whole point of the system collecting 1 tank, 1 healer, 2 dps. Things would get messy quickly. My suggestion is just a small QoL for avoiding duplicate roles and other minor benefits.

I think in a normal Duty Finder situation, being locked into the role you selected (though it doesn't change the "You're playing Black Mage completely wrong, just switch to Summoner." comment). However, I don't think the role should be any subcategory of DPS, just DPS is fine.

I also think that, any pre-formed parties should be able to freely change jobs once inside as they see fit, as long as they aren't in combat.

This would be awesome I love PLD, but if im synched down to like ARR I much rather go GNB.

Obviously swapping out of category doesn't work Unless you had a action system similar to variant dungeons, perhaps you could even have passive traits that could effect a jobs passive defensive, offensive and healing values so it wouldn't matter for casual content, could possibly select what type of role your filling for that duty so you couldn't like just bail and go fall dps if you signed up for being a tank lol.

The suggestion is to let people swap Jobs in their role, Tank can swap to another Tank, Healer to another Healer. DPS is kind of broad though I don't know if it would be just any DPS Job or within the specific type of DPS (Melee, Caster, Ranged)...

And also only at the start, the original suggestion is 1 minute, but I think it should be until the first pull.

Overall, it would mostly just be that you queue in as a role, and then choose your Job when you see what Dungeon, Trial, Normal Raid or Alliance Raid the roulette decides to throw you in that day, as long you're leveled and geared enough for the place on the Job you want to use.

They have a point though. Wouldn’t such a thing just cause people to bitch at each other for 60 seconds about who has to swap?
“Change all ranged to BLM/Picto or we vote abandon”

The actual likelihood of that happening is debatable, but this is FFXIV. The developer’s idea of solving ‘tension points’ is doing everything in their power to remove them at all costs. This seems like it would introduce a pretty major ‘tension point’ - whether or not the tension was actually justified.

This is one of those suggestions that I like in theory, but in practice, I can see a lot of potential toxicity. I strongly encourage people to think through the “what could go wrong” scenarios and how they might impact the game.

I think this is a good idea, provided it is role restrictive and provided it has a restriction on item level, e.g., swapped class must still meet the minimum required item level. Would be nice being able to swap from Pictomancer or Black Mage to Summoner or Red Mage if healer is struggling to stay alive.

I don't really think there is a risk of increased toxicity, as I think any toxicity that you may be able to argue as a result from this already does exist.

I could see players queuing tank or healer for faster queues then whining about wanting to switch roles once inside, but so long as there's a restriction to only allow changes within job type it should be relatively fine.

Sure, theoretically you could have people demanding people switch to a 'better job' and kicking them otherwise, but kicking someone for a disliked job in the hopes of getting a better one is currently a possibility anyways, and also something that can get you in trouble for doing.

Otherwise I think it could work. I can't count the amount of times I've ended up in a roulette, particularly for a trial or raid, and wished I could switch jobs to better compliment the party.

It's already against the rules to vote kick without a proper reason, and "not using the correct Job" isn't a proper reason. It would really only be a matter of would the GMs enforce the rules.

You could make it so when a roulette queue pops, it shows you the icons of the jobs in the party before you click accept. And during that 45 seconds you could swap around within the same role and see if others swap around within their role. The game would of course prevent you from clicking Accept if you switched into something of another role or not high enough ilvl.

In any roulette content (including extremes) it doesnt matter which dps you swap to. You will always be able to clear it damage wise, even if as melee dps on a ranged position you get downtime.

And i think that is a fine benchmark

But i do want a PF setting with it that either allows it (default), or disallows it.

With unique jobs as requirement, changing jobs can be problematic, as it can also break synergy. But in an extreme, it doesnt even matter if you have duplicate jobs (limit break generation still goes on, unlike savage). So changing should be free.

And it saves up the need to have the unique job check in the duty itself, which is generaly important for savages. This can then be done/resolved during the pf itself if people still decide to change (which is common enough to happen). If you have a good party, they will stick together on role reasignments (although, tbh, if this usualy comes up in a party, its mostly likely to collapse anyway). Even changing jobs mid duty if it was allowed is going to become a problem to some players (it indicates a lack of 'know your job well'). - and yes, statics will just have the swapping allowed, which is at least nice for them, although prob still useless

Im just worried for the few days when the obvious mistake of allowing someone to go blue mage. Even if it doesnt happen at the initial patch, its just waiting for this to go wrong.
