It seems like it's time to remove the tome limits

For a long time, the weekly tome limit has been in place to keep people playing daily/weekly content, but it just doesn't really make much sense anymore. You subscribe by the month, and get a lower charge for more months at a time. How does forcing people to play week to week just to keep up their gear make sense?
Furthermore, it's always limited people to one or two classes to "main." The game has more than 20 classes. Let people actually work towards their gear at their own pace, let them play as many classes as they wish without arbitrary time gated gear and tome restrictions. Just get rid of this old holdover of 450 tomes a week.

Yoshi-P literally just said in the last week that the entire point of the game is "to get 450 tomestones every week".

Far from getting rid of it, he's considering letting you buy mounts and other reward with it "because not everyone is interested in item level" and worried that competitors might beat him to doing this so he didn't reveal more.

FF14 was not the first MMO to put weekly stops to progression, and I doubt it will be the last. It's a common thing.

In a sense it is protection from steamrolling the current hard content
But having it in place for so long after it stops being relevant for the majority of players is annoying. It really should unlock on the next major patch

The 450 tome cap holds me back from playing, advancing and enjoying the game. I agree its time for it to get the boot.

Firstly, this game is not a job (but it certainly is made to feel like one with all the lockouts).
Secondly, Not being able to do anything productive because of weekly lockouts means that most will unsub as soon as they get bored anyways (which in my FC's experience is roughly 1-1/2 months after a major patch).

Neither of these arguments are a good representation for why lockouts should remain.

How does it hold you back?
If you mean gear-wise, you can just get the crafted equipment and augment it. Which has the same itemlevel as the Mathematics gear and Heliometry Tomestones are more readily available since they don't have a weekly cap.

I think in the .8 patches before a new tomestome tier comes out they could at least up the weekly cap as they are about to be obsolete anyway. Same goes for the weekly lookout on the Sandorian coins. No reason they couldn't have been unlocked this .8 patch.

I'm fine with the cap at first, but near the end of the patch they really should consider raising the amount like they use to (up to 900 iirc).

They still do this tho? It was raised to 900 just before the release of DT in the past already.

The only thing I want SE to do is increase the max limit of poetics to 4k or even 5k since all old gear and relics require tons of them.

Nah I mean in-between, like now would have been a good time before the new ones come out.

But yes I agree with the poetics

The cap serves a purpose at the beginning of a raid tier, to keep raiders from getting all their gear right away, but in my opinion they need to raise the cap earlier and keep increasing it over time, or decrease the cost of the gear with each piece you buy. What if buying a tome chest piece gave a discount on the cost of the other tome chest pieces?

It would be a terrible idea to make people choose between gear and glamour. But I have been saying for years that the "uncapped" tomestones should go towards glamours and mounts. I think each patch we need like a 50k uncapped tomestone mount and/or glamour, akin to gemstones.

They go to relic weapons now, which are effectively just glam once they're a patch old.

A lot of things in this game need to be unlocked or increased sooner: Savage Raids; Alliance; and Limited Tomestones for starters. I understand not wanting people to steamroll content week one, it increases the life of the content, but after so long it just doesn't make sense. Patch is less than a month away, what is it going to hurt at this point?

I could see that being a happy medium.

I was just saying this earlier today I would love to gear all my Jobs within a threshold of 4 Ilvl I have played a lot this patch (not Savage player) and got tanks to 759 and casters to 755 all my other jobs are all stuck at 750 and with the patch around the corner we litrally even with the current patch cadence as casual roulette player who probably does more content then the average savage player can't obtain maximum Ilvl on multiple jobs due to the Coins being locked behind the Weekly Alliance raid lock out if not removing weekly cap maybe increase the cap in the .5 patch or the .8 patch towards the end of the current cycle

I like this Idea

Instead of outright removing, gradually increase cap with time.
First 4 weeks: 450/week
4 next weeks: 900/week
.1/.3/.5: cap is removed and savage raids are unlocked

If I have a job at cap I want to get the same tomes if I am running it on a lower level job to level.

It's the general aura of the entire answer to the question, which had several paragraphs.

He was saying that people play to get 450 tomestones and then don't know what to do so they just logout (this is what we see as activity booms on Tuesdays and weekends with all the weeklies). Those that do know what to do, have figured it out from social interaction.

He's considering therefore having the game make suggestions on what to do after getting the tomestones instead.

But then, people might not value even what they get for 450 tomestones if they don't value gear, so then see no reason to login on Tuesday at all, so the consideration is allowing other things to be bought with it instead.

I understand what is being said, but you know, to many of us, 450 tomestones is just what we get in the first few hours of Tuesday from hunt trains before doing whatever else we want to do. It's almost barely a thought. :D

Most people aren't paying on a six month basis, but the usual month to month. Without that restriction lulls like we've currently had would have even less reason to stay subbed. Not to mention, unlimited tomes would render their entire gear treadmill obsolete. After all, what purpose does a "catch up" patch serve if you already have access to the better gear? Likewise, crafting gear instantly becomes worthless since why buy i740 when two sets of roulettes nearly gives enough for anything except chest, legs or weapon?

The 450 tome limit is absolutely a subscription incentive and there's zero chance they ever remove it. My only real issue is they should increase it in odd patches to go along with the whole "catch up" mindset. Alas, I suspect they still feel it's too much of an incentive to gamble.

While I do think more uses for tomes would be a good thing for the weekly ones I do think this just hides the big issue with IL gear currently. Going from 7.2 into 7.3, sure you can start to cap your IL to the best you can get but the question is, why? There was no additional harder content added to the game that would require upgraded tome gear Deep Dungeon has it's own gear system and the only battle content added that helps with IL are the Extreme raid from MSQ and Monster Hunter. The Dev team needs to re-evaluate the way content is released because there is no reason why there should be this lul in content where your IL gains are just way to overtuned for the current content. There is at least use for the .4/.5 gear since that will carry you to about level XX7/ in the MSQ so you aren't constantly changing out gear every 2 levels but at the same time this gear rotation is just becoming a boring mechanic that shoudl be rethought. I"m not even asking for a full rehaul, I would just like to see accessories experimented with where they aren't just an IL boost and actually serve a unique purpose with gearing that isn't straight up make number bigger.

There are poeple who just use the gear from normal raids and alliance raids and don't farm tomestones every week. And when they have the capped tomes at max after 4 months or so they don't know what to do with them, let alone the uncapped tomes.

There is no pressing need to. The game throws enough gear at you to easily keep your ilvl right and allow you into current content.

Besides, if they did uncap it, they'd also do something like add a zero or two to the cost of each piece to offset the cap removal, whilst keeping the amount the amount of tomes you get for every duty the same.

For years the Cap limit has actually made me play less. Some weeks you have more time to play than others but once you hit 450 you can't do anything. It's got to the point now that I no longer gear other jobs as it's simply not worth the time. Yoshi doesn't want me to play actively so I stopped playing actively. I can understand for the first 2 weeks whilst world first races are going on, but they clear in a few days and it's a who cares anymore issue after that.

7 weeks for the Tome weapon drop is ridiculous too. 4 max should be the standard.

If I want to play other jobs I have to wait several weeks to get enough tomes. You're lucky to get a pair of socks for your character with 450 Tomes.

I do my Savage raids twice a week and that's me done.

i would be down if they lowered the costs for items from previous expansion and added more to buy like the mounts, and stuff someone mention. everything tomestone costs wise needs to be adjusted iwth the previous expansions.

Actually yeah that's another thing that should change. 4 is way better.

I think it's mostly a pacing issue. Gearing in all tier if you wanted all jobs takes the entire time. Next week I'll finally finish the Caster set. Just a couple of weeks to spare.
The unlock always feels very late, and only in tier 3 we get the tome doubling. There's other issues...
Like how in tier 3, you get the Relic weapon then a month later you get the echo. If you got the Relic Weapon, then you already have this massive boost. The Echo comes too soon! That thing should be last minute!
Yet more things... The Alliance has "Catch-up gear", but it has stinky stats and one per week, at the same item level as Augmented Crafted?...

There's a lot of issues that add up, to where it doesn't seem to make sense in the modern day. Maybe it made sense when I wasn't playing (heavensward), but as it is the system doesn't really let people catch up, or easily experiment after they beat the tier. And when it does it pulls all the triggers so close together, they don't give you time for it to matter. At the start of the tier 450 tomes and everything is fine, and makes sense.

To start with the cap should just go up each week instead of being 450 every time
e.g week 1 it's a 450 cap, week 2 it's a 900 cap taking into account what you earned week 1 etc
this way if u start late you aren't far behind for no reason

idk why ff14 copied wow's old valor point system without the catchup part
