Of Titles and Stats

I'm borrowing the idea from Aion, which I found fairly nifty and not exactly game breaking and actually is an incentive for collecting titles.

As we know we are getting visible titles on our characters in A Realm Reborn.
How would you feel about small stat bonuses on some titles?

As long as no singular titles become overpowered compared to others, they can be a way to further customise our characters beyond stat allocation and materia.

If I were to complete the paladin quest-chain and gain a title like "Unbreakable" it would be nice for it to give a bonus to my defence or vitality.

I think it would be fun, discuss!

Only if the ones that are unobtainable from 1.0 give the best stats. I must feel 1337 at all times.

I think it would lead to everyone using mostly the same titles, which is kind of not the point of titles themselves.

yes and no, with materia in the game, people do tend to flock for the same type of materia but there's alot of variation as to which materia people put more priority, some tanks prioritise Enmity, some favour VIT, some favour defence, some favour hp, some favour a boost to accuracy and relying on other gear for things. if there are a wide range of titles to collect and choose from, you'll still see a bunch of varied titles.

It also helps with immersion if the tank is using a title that sound somewhat tanky, even if its not the same as another tank

Yeah that's all true and I agree, but unless they had lots of titles giving the same stats (which would give you a lot of choice) you would still only see 2 or at most 3 different titles being used by each job because in the end every job has at most 2 or 3 stats they have to really care about.

true but they dont neccisarily have to be all the same for example of tank title stats:
Defence+10
enmity +5
vit +5
str +5
mnd +5
vit / mnd +2
vit / str +2
accuracy +10
block +5
parry +5
regen +1
refresh +1
HP +50
MP+50
HP / MP +25
Def +5 HP +20

etc
etc

There are many combinations one could use and are all very viable for tanks. that's more than 2 or 3

I think you're greatly underestimating the min/max culture that's quite rampant. That is more than 2 or 3 options, but people WILL test them and figure out which are the 2 or 3 most effective ones, there's no other way about it.

I don't mind the idea, I'm just saying it's a lot of work to do it properly and I'm not sure it's worth it.

I hated that in Aion. Don't get me wrong, I think titles in themselves are cool, but I want to wear a title because it looks cool/ fits my character and not because of the stats of one are better than the other.

It would be cool, but I'd rather use a title that I want to, instead of forced to use one because of Stats.

I prefer it not to, and remain something simply for the sake of vanity/fun.

Titles are about the work you did to achieve them, they are cosmetic and for fun and character...

Adding stats to them will cheapen them and turn them into just another piece of gear, so I am against it sorry ^^

Echoing the sentiments that titles should be purely for fun and/or to show off whatever you had to achieve to earn those titles. Adding stats will lead to "better" titles than others, which is the complete opposite of their purpose.

I think titles should remain a vanity thing only.

Anyway, I disagree with giving stats to titles because I'd be forced to put on certain stats all the time by the circumstances of battle. I would rather wear the titles I'm proud of, such as "Provider of the Realm" or "Stormlady" as, like, Lalafell Scout Merit Badges.

I'm not promoting anything, if I was I would bump it. THis thread was already made with 5 pages worth of discussion, you can easly take something from it. You can also not click it. I'm just linking it for the op so he can see what others have said without waiting for a response here.

while these are good points I don't think the stats will have that big of an impact that you guys think it will if they're minimal boosts.

I played Aion for quite a while and I did not once see certain classes all using the exact same titles, they used the ones that looked cool, and noone expected anything otherwise. you did your job right, thats all that matters.

I outparse nearly every BLM/THM I party with and I dont even have materia, just plain felt gear. and noone has ever tried to tell me to go get melded gear.

Most people on the forums seem to think of the most extreme cases they can to try to debunk something, when in actuality, i don't think i've yet seen 2 WARs exactly alike with gear/accessories/materia

Titles should be about vanity and epeen only.

They're either effective boosts and what we say will happen (everyone uses the same titles). Or they're such tiny boosts that they're irrelevant, so they might as well not exist. It's a lose/lose situation.
