I'm not sold and I say this as a big MH fan.
The Arkveldt doesn't feel unique, its just a standard trial (at least in the normal mode, haven't done the ex yet) that lacks that unique factor that the Rathalos fight had.
Outside the Megapotion, which is not used at all in the normal mode, there is nothing unique or anything that can be understood as a MH mechanic. To illustrate what I'm trying to say, in the Rathalos fight we had wild beasts coming in (like they did in old mh especially in big monsters that were part of packs), the no healing phase which forced us to use megapotions, the flying phase, the tail cut and the fire blight in the form of a dot, the semi-random aggro that forced every player to pay attention and the monster moves and aoes didn't have an aoe indicator and came from the monster itself, forcing players to react to the Rathalos tells, like in MH. Arkveldt on the other hand has none of that, it has aoe marks on the floor, nothing that can be understood as a MH mechanic in their use of the dragon element, disjointed attacks like tower mechanics that are in no way part of its movepool in MH, nothing of its body is breakable and feels more like a standard FFXIV fight than a hunt.
The rewards are also a bit over the place, all the rewards can be obtained doing the normal mode and the only EX exclusive reward is the weapon upgrade, a weapon upgrade for weapons that are of similar power of the current relic or upgraded tome weapons which are much easier to obtain so there is no much point on farming the EX outside the first clear to experience it.
Overall I like the MH collabs but imo this is a downgrade if we compare it with the previous one
Overall same feeling.
I was confused when people were saying Rathalos was a bad fight. Understandably so because of ping, but nothing else about that fight was bad. It felt like a MH fight came into XIV. Whereas here, it's just another trial wearing an Arkveld skin and moveset. Not a fan of many of the weapons. Not really a fan of the Hope glam. I'll probably do Normal just to *have* the hope skin before this content dries up.
And comparatively, if you look at the Omega fight in MH Wilds, you see that XIVs systems are integrated thoughtfully. You need a tank to have his attention. Dps, break the legs. Preferably a healer. Morbols to stun and cactuar to beat up the spider. Using omegas mini shields to protect yourself. The red puddles. The Drk gear and effects and the pictomancer skills. It's like XIV didn't even try.
With how things have been for this game, I expected to be let down. Collab feels super lackluster, but that's just me.
STOP PUTTING LIMIT CUT IN EVERY FIGHT
*throws table*
The fight wasnt too bad in normal mode. It's just kinda average at best. It doesn't really feel like a monster hunt lol. Though Omega in MH Wilds is fun, and Savage is a sweatfest (but tons of fun), you dont feel anything on these fights. There's nothing to break. There's 0 to cut. There's no extra parts you can lob off like in monster hunter. I like the hope gear (though I wish we wouldve had some actual gear gear from arkveld himself), but this will have to do. I'll probably farm everything normal for now for glams and maybe get into some ex and clears. With BF6 releasing soon and still playing through Tactics remaster, I have a busy schedule of games all slammed in a short period of time <_>
I prefer the Omega fight in MH Wilds is more fun. The Collab here in XIV is boring.. not really fun and yeah.. feels like you get a primal and yeah always the same. Rathalos was more fun
I enjoyed the fight on normal.
Some nice attacks, towers for more or less all players and a good spectacle.
Music is nice though I do miss the highlight from the Rathalos fight (proof of a hero) and so no real "climax" appears really. After Necron and the FFXI raid it's another fight that kind of...feels generic from a music perspective, though maybe I need to do it a few more times. I guess if you haven't the original knowledge of the games, you miss out on the notsalgia?
The rewards are good as well and I do like the Hope armor set over all.
The quest leading to it was also cute but extremely short. Would have liked for the trail search to not be an automated ride but more gameplay.
I haven't set foot into Ex yet because as soon as I opened PF I saw the words "limit cut", braindead, true north and not even three hours later a f**** raidplan again, so it seems more of the same, so I might simply stay at normal mode.
One thing I do have to criticize though is that the normal mode loops it's patterns too quickly and so you feel like you have seen everything even before the fight is over.
For me this is another case of fight design first, job design last. Everything not Ex upwards is clearly not the priority in fight development it seems.
I would give it 7/10 points from a fight perspective and 9/10 from a rewards angle (point reduced for the helmet deleting Miqo'te ears again).
The fight is more "fluid" than Rathalos but seems to "miss" something, though I haven't played MH so I don't know what it could be.
I do want to say though that I think the weapon coming from normal mode and Ex having the augmentation option is a really great idea.
It helps hearing up a bit for both parties and I hope they continue this trend.
Oh and here is one towards the community because quite frankly I am getting annoyed.
When did it become standard practice to not say hello or gg and instapull a boss that isn't even a day old?
Learn some patience and some simple manners. You play with other people and not bots.
Edit:
Did the Ex now.
Again, fun fight but nothing groundbreaking.
A whole bunch of AOE's and running.
Would have liked more "original mechanics" but fine as it is.
It maybe didn't feel as Monhun as Rath did but it was still an alright enough fight, and I never fought a arkveld to compare the fights like I have a rath. haven't tried the extreme so can't comment on that, maybe on the weekend.
But the issue I have run into twice now is that when you are left with just 2 tanks left and everybody else on the floor it's way too easy for them to both stay alive and make everybody wait around not playing the game, I think maybe 1 tank would die but I'm not totally certain on that either
fun fight, but as others say, it was nothing unique, just your average trial. why even include the potions in normal, if you are never gonna use them
Normal fight was nothing exciting, personally. Rewards seem okay.
May step into Ex in a few hours with friends to try that out.

I checked PF on our DC 90 minutes after the patch dropped, out of curiosity. 5 groups were looking, only one was truly blind, the rest all already had a later starting point. May actually be better now, with more people having it unlocked. no idea.
So yeah, it seems to be more rote memorization fight again.
If you remove the MH skin from the mob, it's just another trial.
The fight itself doesn't really do anything different from what we've had in the game for years. Even the attacks seem to be on a fixed pattern, where as Rathalos felt random in its attacks.
The fight itself is ok, maybe a step up from some, but it really just gets drowned in a sea of similar feeling trials.
It feels... lacking the best way I can put it. It was a decent fight but felt more like a trial without cast bars instead of a Monster Hunter collab fight. You're more focused on what Guardian Arkveld does which is nice but when what it does is same as other bosses it doesn't feel unique from them. Haven't done EX yet so won't comment on that. Rewards are nice. Hope armour dyes decently so probably will see usage in some leather based glams. But wouldn't said no to Guardian Arkveld armour or mount as well.
7/10 for fight 9/10 for rewards as one commenter also said.
The normal fight was whatever. Compared to Omega in Monhun, it was to total disapointment. Even without comparing, it's not really good for a collab fight. Just a normal FF trial, as other here said. EX is the same thing, it just got ~3 more mechs. Still does not feel very MH-y.
Aside from the fight, what even is up with the lore? We don't get any new crumbs of lore unlike Wilds with Planetes . It's just a Felyne talking about the Forbidden Lands. Feels like G.Arkveld was not even the focus of those cutscenes. It's even confusing. It's supposed to take place at the same time as the Omega collab, so this means, after the main scenario quest. I don't get how we even got "an" G.Arkveld. There is only one in Wilds, and it got slain by the Hunter. It was able to reproduce and lay eggs, but its offspring was Arkveld, not another G.Arkveld. Unless I missed something, it's pretty unclear
Why did the G.Akrveld flew away? It's supposed to be a relentless monster attacking everything on sight. I don't buy the "The WoL's aura was so strong it has to flew away to prepare". It just does not care, at this point in the story, its supposed to have fallen into madness.
I find this collab very infuriating. It was just "look, it's Wilds! You know, the game with... G.Arkveld! And Felyne! And Seikret! And BBQ!" unlike Wilds that gave us new lore info, and made sense, without it just being "It's a FF collab".
If anything I hope they take the potion system and put it into the PF settings as an optional little buff item players can enable when learning future EX's and Savage fights.
Shouldn't reward the player for using the option, but it'd be a great tool to let people in on the fun of raiding without making them feel bad for when they eventually screw up.
Great rewards, but the fight was pretty generic.
Stop with the collabs already and start putting actual creativity into the world of XIV please. Or whatever is left of it.
10/10 collab. I unlocked the trial, disconnected and cannot reopen the game because of a huge DDoS going on for steam and many other services.
Fairly basic fight, even on extreme (as far as I've gotten so far). They just use the same mechanics from other FFXIV fights like Limit Cuts, Zeromus Eventide, etc. It's your typical, dodge cleave, stand in tower, do LC, etc.
Aside from the fact that I actually dashed not once but twice into the wall of death on the first try, I have enjoyed the fight with my friends.
The Normal version is fine, I wish it wasn't another dragon but something else instead, the rewards are actually nice. The BLM weapon had me rolling, and the glam overall is nice :>
The fight was so boring.
Rathalos was better.
Please stop using Monster Hunter IP. Find a different game.
Where do you find the Stray Felyne after you finish the quest to take a picture with it for the contest?
I think I wouldve liked it more if they decided to remove the telegraphs of the movesets. Give it full attention of monster hunter and make you think and read the moves without the visuals of arkvelds attacks based on how he works in monhun wilds. Kinda like how they did some of the movesets for both versions of normal and ex mode for rathalos.
Fair.
Locking out heals for an entire phase is pretty wild thinking about it. Having one button for the whole thing is a big "Lmao" moment that leans a bit toward the fact that healers shouldn't have a single skill to dps with. But, that's an entirely different discussion.
I like the MH collab a lot so far. The normal fight has just the right challenge for the duty finder while not being a pushover. Rarely seen so many rezzes go out in other trials while not being frustrating.
The armour sets look great and have some very cool individual pieces one can use for their own glam set, the weapons are okay, not quite up my alley. Furniture, plate designs are also nice along with the mounts. IMO the first time I see actual effort put in on SEs side this expansion.
All I wanted was that cooking and eating the cutlets emote, but its not even available to buy. :(
I've not done the fight myself but talking with people who have I get the impression that it's just "ok" which is by and large a descriptor that applies to a good chunk of XIV content.
"It's fine, I guess."
Welp. Looking forward to doing it and seeing for myself. /shrug
This seems to be a running pattern for crossover events lately – half the dialogue is just someone from the other setting wandering around telling us "that looks like a thing from my world, here are some facts about it" and it's so boring. I don't need to know about it if I'm not playing the actual other game, and it's not information that sells the other game to me. I'd rather have them make some observations or ask questions about the details of the current location that tell us something new and interesting.
It's not even trying to hide anymore how it's blatantly a form of advertisement for the other game franchise. Vanadiel plays exactly the same, it's characters telling you how great moments they've experience in their world, and the raids quickly shotgunning you through many epic scenes that make no sense to you like you're watching a trailer for a movie you haven't seen yet.
I find it really funny how every excuse people gave for why the Arkveld set would have been to hard to make is invalidated by SE doing all the things that were "too hard"
Good fur? check, we got that new cash slop tactics outfit!
Physics? check we got the goofy ninja weapons. And lets be real people would have been okay with little to no physics too.
Capes? Got that too on the cash slop tactics set, clipping and all! People will buy it anyways.
Fight looks like just a generic XIV trial too lmao. Maybe SE will remember quality alongside quantity next time?
Fight itself, too generic of a boss fight, no MH soul, doesnt even compare how Rathalos was. Rewards however are awesome, most of the weapons are great and mounts/minions are pretty fun.
Exactly this. It was just a big, mediocre ad. I had a blast with Planetes on Wilds. From the lore we got to the fight, both normal and savage, it truly FEELS like a proper collab. Gameplay was adjusted to feel more like a FF14 raid. Omega moveset makes sense, since almost all if not all of its attacks are from 14. On FF14 side, it feels like they were forced to do this collab, it's not even funny. From the "story" to the fight, both normal and EX, I feel super disappointed. Why didn't they use the Wound system? Why didn't they use the mounting system? You could replace Arkveld with literally anyone else it'd be the same. Half of G.Arkveld's moveset is not even from Wilds.
"Look, we put the monster from the artbox, and "Radiant Cry of Life" plays when fighthing it! Aren't you happy?" that's the message I got from this collab honestly
Even if it was far from perfect, at least, they tried to do something that looks more like a MH fight back in Stormblood with the Rathalos.
That’s pretty much my only complaint is they didn’t make a second set of gear to go with the weapons. I like the Hope gear, but the weapons are very distinct, and could have used the matching armor sets. Well a second complaint actually: the pop-up tent furnishing is both completely empty (despite the one in zone having all the decor!) AND you can’t enter it, even as a Lala. If it’s just going to be decorative, then why take out all the stuff?
But the fight itself is fun, I loved that Hope Gear was immediately dual dyeable, the rest of the rewards are great and cost just the right amount of scales that I will keep running the trial without feeling like it’s a massive chore, and I do love my Seikret (even though we can’t dye it in this game). And Felyne house servants! :D
It's fun. I did the normal version 14 or 15 times and the extreme once last night, the first time I've cleared an ex on the first day, though 90% of it is just the normal mechanics with stacks and spreads and tighter timing.
However it doesn't feel too unique or different from other FFXIV trials the way the Rathalos hunt did, which seems like a missed opportunity to me.
The thing is, it's bad advertising because it isn't anything that draws me in; it's info that is only relevant if and when I decide to go there and commit to learning that game's mechanics and lore.
If I'm currently playing MH then sure I'll need to know about seasons and resources and whatever the cat was prattling on about, but until then it is completely worthless information out of context.
Excuse me, but.
Where is the unique reward from extreme trial?
