Would You Sacrifice Your House for a Mansion-Sized Apartment?

Pretty straightforward question.

Houses give you neighborhoods and places to convene, as well as gardens, but would you give it all away to have a mansion-sized apartment and no longer be bound to the housing timer?

I thought this would be a fun discussion in terms of what exactly people want most in a housing experience.

How about instanced housing with demolition timer to free up server space if you don't use it? :D

I wouldn't mind a S house if I could have a Large yard for all my event furnishing.

Although in this case I wouldn't trade it since I still like the yard out of everything else, and I can't have that in the apt, which I already own one before I got my house.

I would not. I enjoy having a yard. It's the main driver for me to have a house. And because of gardening. I just like having a pretty yard to sit in.

I can see the appeal of this for those that would take breaks that could be months long without worry of logging in. Since my mains own a personal mansion, I wouldn't when the yard is one of the biggest reasons I wanted a ward plot along with having neighbors. However, if I had a small plot, it would be very tempting but having a yard is also a major plus of housing since I regularly hangout with friends in them at least once a week at both my homes. I love decorating my yard and having a pretty garden to hangout in. Here are some screenshots of my yards from both my personal homes to drive my point.

Yes.

Outside of gardening, and the ability to decorate an exterior, it offers next to nothing..

Being able to say... Convene in the garden, or 'neighborhood feel', for example... Are both things that on paper are really attractive, but really these two occur so, so rarely, that in my perspective it really doesn't matter.

Not really, I feel that if you are away from the game for 6 weeks you wont want to come back so I'd rather have the garden. I have my dream plot and it will be gone in 5 weeks but I don't see this game ever recovering to a point where I'll want to come back.

I like my yard and don't want a house bigger than a small.

I think it would be cool to be able to make apartments big on the inside though.

I'd rather have the opportunity for instanced housing so I can keep my yard without being chained to a sub so I don't lose it.

I defnitely would! I don't care a lot about the exterior, really. I kinda hate how inflexible it is.

My FC house? Prolly not, even though I'm mostly by myself. My regular house? If they make island sanctuary less boring, sure.

I want to keep my yard decor. But I don’t quite care if it’s in a neighborhood or if the game just teleport me into a separate, secluded instance. But since the latter instanced option would imply that I will always have the opportunity to re-purchase the plot even when I let my sub run out without renewing the timer, I wouldn’t mind the penalty at all.

There are plentiful ways to make gil, so I don’t mind repurchasing my house and its furnitures so long I know it’ll always be available by the time I return to the game.

I wouldn't. I bought my personal because of the location and the garden. I love where it is and I'm almost always hanging out in my garden! It's also a meetup point for my friend group. I would only move from there if I found the same plot in a subdivision, because the sunrise and sunset is nicer on that orientation lol (it's the LB medium P11/41)


I'd love to be able to buy as many item slots as mansions get, though. I like the medium layout just fine but I want more slots!

I have a Medium right now, i'd like more furnishing slots to furnish it as i want.
I'd be OK with a Small if i could have more furnishing slots.
I'd be OK with an apartment if i could have multiple rooms and a balcony/patio to grow crops on. With enough furnishing slots, naturally.


Right now apartments are just a prison room with very few slots.


I know how to improve a bunch but the devs aren't interested.

I would sacrifice the island for instanced housing >~> remember the island is now legacy content that will be forgotten and never used again

No thank you, instanced housing/apartments are both horrible.

I wouldn't trade it, but only because I already have an M-sized house. That being said, when they upgrade the interior sizes, they should also do it for Apartments.
Also, if gardening is an issue, there is such a thing as indoor gardens irl. They could just create an indoor garden plot for folks to use.

No, but I would drop my ward mansion in a heartbeat if it meant an instanced housing area I could have all to myself. Apartments are great, but if they can do that, they can give us an instanced plot too, since the only difference would be adding a small outdoor area.

Yoshida said himself years ago that he knows ppl want instanced housing but the only reason they are not doing it is because he prefers the ward system, which says a lot about how this game is handled. That was a big topic of discussion for a hot minute.

Same. I have a small, and I prefer that size and layout. Offer me a fully functional instanced plot off by itself with some generic scenery? In a heartbeat! Bonus points if they add backdrops at about the same frequency as new housing skins, so you can switch out the background scenery at will, and eventually make it look like anywhere in Eorzea.

When it comes to apartments/FC rooms though, I’d like to see them get their own range of sizes and layouts, rather than just copy/pasting the house interiors through the size remodel they’re talking about. What we have now could be the Small: a Studio apartment, Medium could be a Loft (with stairs going up to an actual built-in loft that allows furniture to be placed on it!) and Large could be a Penthouse: multiple levels, maybe an outdoor balcony or courtyard type area for placing garden plots and outdoor furniture.

I also had a crazy idea of having personal FC wards where there's one large house for the FC in the center and members can occupy the houses around it, which is just a pipe dream but could be cool.

apartment upgrades would be appreciated but no i would not give up my house for it i love to landscape an hate how limited the current system is. i would much prefer just my own solo instance with a massive amount of land that i can build on an add in whatever i would want on to it and to have my house be any size that suits wether that be small or large i just want the option to exist so i can change it freely at my own discretion

How about instead of bargaining. They get their crap together and focus on QoL

If I can do that (which is essentially instanced housing) with my FC estate and keep the workshop and everything, yes, without hesitation.
Ideally you could even still have yards or external balconies on apartment type housing, you'd just not see the landscape outside populated by players in real time (much like in the inns like Tulliyolal)

Yep, I sure would (if you replace apartment with instanced plot). Even Perfect World added in instanced housing plots that also serve some function other than being showroom gallery tat, and that's an 18 years old Chinese f2p game. Neighbourhoodly vibes don't matter one dot when the ward you're in is dead. For that to be viable reasoning would take an actually thriving game, or at least enough people that give a damn about housing for real. Feels like I've been the sole caretaker of the stables where my Shirogane apartment is located for the last 5 years if not longer. Hate seeing it grubby though...

I guess the ward where my house is at does have a neighbour that's built across to my rooftop for purposes as yet unknown. Haven't seen anyone partying up there though. So yeah, instanced house plot I can't lose while unsubbed thx (never happening).

We used to kind of do that way back when where my entire FC moved to Shirogane on release. The wards got separated because of how badly received the housing system was, but if they properly instance it, they could at least put TP crystals to member housing for flavor.

No, part of the fun is choosing the location and even main and subdivisions have different views based on their rotation.

It's only a solution for people who haven't a house on land.

Otherwise, you might as well expand the interior of your house. Your question doesn't make sense, because an apartment will never give you what a housing garden gives you, especially for gardening and the feeling of not being stuck between 4 walls and having a garden.

If you want to make a seed crossing, you'll need a garden, an apartment can't do that.

Apartments are only solutions because Yoshi-P doesn't want to instantiate our housing zones, which are ghost towns. Where is the community zone aspect, which only exists for districts bought by Rp players, who are minorities in an MMO?

I only see my neighbors on the day of the patch, but since DT I haven't even seen them.

Instanced housing could have an instanced outdoor area too. Like basically every other game that offers housing in a sane manner.

The reason why plot 60 in Shiro is superior than plot 30 is because the sun sets over the ocean while in plot 30, the sun sets behind the mansion and mountains. It's the same for plot 35 in Mist with the sun setting over the ocean vs behind the mansion in plot 5. Here is the sun setting from both my onsen and from my front yard, this reason alone makes my plot superior over the same one in plot 30 because of the way the sun sets.

We can actually already have gardening inside apartments. The flower pots have a limit, much like garden patches have a limit in housing yards. The only difference is that you can't crossbreed since flower pots are unique slots with no connections to others.

Actually yes. I wouldn't mind a layered apartment. Having a garden is nice, but perhaps they can implement a balcony that could function like a garden.
