Current fixes to Forked Tower is not good enough

Solely Based on that people is gonna be selective about players using third party sites and software to lock people out of it.

It is again not actually tossing the ball to the community and adding in a whooopsiday band aid.

Or whatever.

FFXIV team should reform the entire idea of making groups and doing content in the game for good, sorry to say so, but you need to be in touch with the player base.

I totally agree, but while I'm far from being part of the "If you're not happy then unsub", at this point this the only thing to do. SE has shown it's inability to react or even understand complaints. I mean, OC and FT were problems that have been discussed for over3 years and they still managed to fail at understanding the core of the complaints. They're just bad.

Their band-aid will sure help to enter FT more easily, but it's still content that catters to at best 25% of the playerbase counting the curious. This bandaid will help the people that already entered to enter again more easily but it's not gonna make that content popular. That's dead.

1. They are not locked out of it. They can make a PF and find 24+ people who feel the same way. If they can't find 24 people who feel the same way, then they are probably the only one that feels that way, so they need to adjust their mindset.

2. Since PFs can enter as an alliance of 48, it almost guarantees a fresh instance. Only very rarely is there gonna be a non-fresh instance with less than 25 players in, and I think they intend to make it guaranteed fresh later on. A fresh instance effectively means they are not affecting "random" PUGs.

3. Nobody is vetting others to enter FT; on the contrary the entire idea is to help anyone and everyone go from fresh to clear by carring them with callouts that make it as easy as possible to clear.

4. Some runs will not be "fresh prog". You might need to have "seen" a certain phase. If you have not seen that phase, you can join a fresh prog group instead. It's not rocket science.

5. Not being allowed to join a "certain phase" party is not exclusive to FT. It's always happened with Extreme, Savage, Ultimate, Criterion, etc. It's not hard to just join a fresh party instead if you aren't up to that phase.

6. You're effectively saying High-End raids shouldn't exist. Maybe what you could ask for instead is for the normal modes to 1. exist and 2. be more challenging but not be a phase prog. Extreme trials are pretty good at that really - I can take first timers through them and prog through to the end within the timer in many cases.

the changes are really nice. Runs take half the amount of time now, which is great

Stop acting like FT is high end content for starters, it is not, it is in fact quite a beat mainstream, if anything that is.

There was, however, side effect of "fresh" instances.
People who want to do fates\CE are left SOLOING IT!
Because their instance is guaranteed to have -48 players until tower is up, and then suddenly, it is full, but everyone inside tower.
Had it several times today. Soloing OC may be fun for some, but it feels like I am back to Eureka.

What's with the tone of entitlement? They're game developers, not surgeons. Potential minor personal inconveniences hardly warrant such severity.

I'm too lazy to do something out of the game for Forked Tower. Delubrum was perfect in that regard. No issues arose with chaotic i successfully cleared it 50 times in PF. They should've done queue for the raid instead of doing their bullshit lottery mechanic.

If the death limits alone as a concept like in criterion is the best they can do when it comes to making content difficult, I think this content is doomed from the start. Exactly like twice/thrice comes ruin (or worse, combined with it) is literally the embodiment of everything that's wrong with the trinity in the current state of the game.
If they design things counting on "braindead cheeses" then it is no wonder that the pve has taken such a nosedive for a while.

According to the LL, they didn't like that people could just use the PF to find a party and queue for DR/DRS. There has to be FRICTION and STRESS, but only with encounter design and getting into the raid.

I don't think they necessarily meant braindead strats, I was just being blunt, that's all. The exact wording from the LL digest is:

I assume they meant the gathering and selection of Lost Actions and having to set all that up being overbearing. In contrast, Phantom Jobs choose the action setups, reducing the focus on that as much.

Played games where 1 revive or no revive is an option at all, if they wanted to make it high end should had made it 8 or 16 man only content, they are placing a huge doorstop in the major supposed to be fun zone for all baffles me and it should baffle everyone, elite or not.

It is bad game design and the only thing you can do is to admit to the facts.

I understand why they are making 24-48 person content. It's because in Endwalker, they made a lot of solo content and people felt bored, like there was no social interaction. Island Sanctuary was solo. Variants were soloable. MSQ dungeons were now soloable. Relics were virtually not additional content at all, whereas they were social activities in expansions before it.

Ït is not that I am opposed, it is the execution of it, as I said get the facts right, stop being a dreamer and become a realist.

Making 24-48 man content is nice... It's an MMO, so larger scale content should be the norm, in my opinion..

But I struggle to understand how they managed to derive a system closer to BA when the rationale was:
a) Precedence
and
b) Good Enough

Just sounds like word salad for extremely poor decision making.

Seems like what they were trying to say is that they were in a rush to meet deadlines and didn't think about it holistically nor assign enough QA to see what it's like when it's tried in its entirety with 48-72 people (they do actually have over 100 QA). Which was actually an issue in 1.0. Each individual did their thing, but when it all came together, it wasn't working so well.

I mean, sure... But generally I am just chalking this to bad decision making, even if you think of a silo'd system... I would have imagined there to be team meetings, or a team meeting to go over the 'project' itself... e.g., what the intended difficulty is, and frankly if it was communicated that the intended difficulty is extreme/savage large scale, then I would generally say the last thing going through a sane mind is... "Ah, let's turn it into an open minefield"

Especially when you look back at, say, BA... Which even 7 years later suffers from the exact same issues that we're seeing here, albeit not as... Intense, simply because of the age and relevance of the content... Like, you still get groups of 12-16 people in Hydatos trying to claim ownership of an entire instance (and still getting upset when people do join that instance)

I just don't see any universe where someone thought this was a good idea... Even in a silo, and it seems fairly clear that it was a decision issue, versus a... logistical one, when they've already openly stated in PLL that they thought Delubrum had... Too many support systems.

I'm pretty sure that they always were aware of what they are doing. They plan and consider things way too carefully to make decisions, that are "dumb" in their opinion. In the end, they are the ones, that have all data and statistics. It also doesnt help, when 20 people complain in the forum, while their data might underline a different trend.

They changed the access method via a hotfix, not in the next patch. This fact alone proves pretty well that their data and statistics showed the number of people bothering with FTB were super low.

And (not related to your post) also a huge lol @ the thought that missing QA staff has anything to do with a bad design.

Baldesion arsenal didnt have this and was later nerfed several times. Delubrum savage then got direct queue. Normally you'd think that this represents a form of learning on the part of the devs but apparently this was not the case.

Because people have short memories.
But as I said in another thread, Forked will probably become a beloved niche instance once groups can get inside and clear it regularly, much like BA stopped having all the entry requirement issues and snipe dramas once the content petered out.

Only difference I see though, is whether or not the actual gameplay and design inside proves worthy of a successor to BA, which isn't a guarantee.

Whoever designed Fork Tower should be fired.

Just a note BA has never been directed nerfed by square

Eureka armour and the change to substats in ShB indirectly nerfed it massively but square never went in and said “okay we need to nerf BA”

I like the fix. May even make me attempt to find a party on Aether for it if I decide to renew my sub in the following week (I'm just returning for a month I was gifted with, to check the updates).

It doesn't excuse the lack of a normal mode, though. Sometimes I just want to do something like CLL... you still play with others in sort of a challenging way, but don't necessarily need to go all the way as hopping to a different Datacenter and outsourcing the party finder to a Discord Server. Hopefully the actual ingame PF is having a healthy amount of movement after the update. Didn't check Aether's myself, but Crystal sees almost no action.

BA was the final optional step. The enterety of Eureka was still relevant without BA. Relic quest are considered finish without the BA step. Even the story is considered finished with BA being an epilogue.

With FT, the story leads directly to FT. OC is irrelevant if you don't plan to do FT. I hope they won't be stupid enough to gate the rest of OC behind FT...

People who treat this game like a single player game with social skill issues and quite often view other players as merely NPCs or obstacles / tools to them view universally accepted tools to befriend / socialise and talk to each other as a personal attack against them - It's an MMO after all. It's just more common in FFXIV because the community and dev attitude has been a bit too welcoming and accepting of them and now they'll go leaving opinion pieces saying "Please don't listen to X and Y they don't represent the community" when what they're really saying is "I am the community, listen only to me".

This. We went from Eureka zones where the story and relic felt pretty much complete armor/relic-wise, with the big NMs feeling like zone bosses, and BA came at the end. Still want to do it eventually to see if there are any extra cutscenes and/or story dialogue after, but I don’t feel my time in Eureka was wasted, and I still go back there every few months or so.

Then we got Bozja, with CLL, Dalriada and the DRN/DRS split… so many felt like it was backwards to go back to a BA-style raid when - love Bozja or hate it - the dungeons were fun and accessible to all skill levels. They weren’t really easy at first, but they became easier as you leveled in the zones and built up your mettle and stash of actions, as well as learned the mechs.

And now we have the next incarnation of BA… right in the middle of the content, with no other dungeons in the instance, making the lack of a Normal mode very noticeable and disappointing. Everything leads to the Tower, and it’s likely going to be the same for the next zone. Not only that, but the last 5 field notes are locked inside it, something Bozja did not do with its harder duty DRS. As well as another Triad card, which is probably random drop, whereas Bozja had theirs in the currency shop.

I would’ve much preferred something equivalent to CLL/Dalriada/DRN, especially when they’re locking basic rewards behind a duty with rez restrictions and multiple wipe mechs. The harder version having the mount and maybe some extra currency rewards is fine, but there’s nothing Normal level to get everything else and feel like you participated in the story until it gets to the point where discords are offering carry runs, and by then we may already be well into the next zone before many players can even get that scheduled. I’m going to try to get it done before the next zone if I can, but this isn’t the experience I wanted to have. I don’t want to have to prog a whole damn dungeon. I wanted something I could just pop into the zone and do, which was a realistic expectation post-Bozja.

Devs do something good quicker and some weirdos still complain. None of the previous options were taken away, relax, just do it how you feel is best. I'm sure there are MANY people like you to play with you as you prefer.

Not a weirdo, pointing out some major flaws and on top of that taking full instances hostage for eg. CE and Fate stuff as well....

It is not that they did something, but it is an half attempt of doing something right and just a band aid, on something that require a much deeper fix.

During the past 2 years, SE has been incredible notorious for not adding proper content for the masses and those little that is added is barred far away from the actual player base.

Nothing is barred from anyone. Causal players who aren't the only "actual player base" (but think they are ) can do ALL content they just have to *gasp* try and put in a little effort like you do for most hobbies.

The best kind of laziness is to be efficient about it, discord servers dedicated to certain content makes being lazy even easier.

Exactly this! People treat this game like its Second Life. They want to dress up their characters and roleplay but don't want actual gameplay and the devs were very welcoming of this in EW adding solo options for MSQ and loads of other content.

But now that the devs want 14 to play like an MMO or any other video game with some form of gameplay and challenge they whine and complain that they are being forced to socialise and actually play a video game where they have to try and can't just afk and be carried.

This has led to the insane situation we are in now where high end raiders are being demonised for existing, told casuals are the only community in the game and these entitled crazies are demanding SE tailor brain-dead content just for them. The excuses for not being able to do forked tower are insane. There are people here stating discord killed their family, that they don't have time, or don't want to spend their free time organising runs or watching guides unlike raiders who FT was intended for. But they don't realise that this is a hobby like any other and you make time to get good.

Nothing is barred from anyone. Causal players who aren't the only "actual player base" (but think they are ) can do ALL content they just have to *gasp* try and put in a little effort like you do for most hobbies.

A little effort? The raid plan for the first boss, arguably one of the easier ones, has about 20 slides. Add the rez restrictions and the wipe potential which means starting over from scratch (which ups the learning curve significantly), and the “effort” required whether in learning curve and/or time spent is way above average for a large chunk of the player base.

Most things in this game have an easy and a hard mode, or even multiple levels of difficulty. There should be a place for both types of player, and there usually has been. That’s the game we’ve had all this time. So those that wanted a Normal mode, especially after all of Bozja’s dungeons, have every right to feel left out of a major chunk of the content they were waiting so long for.

BA didn't have a normal mode. The devs intended for this to be a challenge but yes people don't want to put in effort. 20 slides with some pictures isnt a hard ask. You don't pick up a musical instrument as a hobby and expect to just be good and know how to play right?

There is NOTHING stopping you from organising your own runs in your own way!

Even if this content isnt for you there is plenty of other content. Deep dungeons, trials, raids, fates. Many of which require little preparation. People are just angry that not all content has a baby brain dead, lazy mode
