With housing demolition feeling like it's on permanent pause, and a completely broken economy it is feeling more and more impossible to get a housing plot. This week on my server the only plots available were smalls with over 100 bids on each.

Indie company, plz understand. Chotto musukashii to add QoL, please look forward to it, we appreciate your support of 14, please buy a camping tent and a 2000 dollar guitar and dj set with a FFXIV logo and please look forward to new features like graphical updates. There will be job changes in 8.0 we promise
Made on purpose so people keep their subscription on.
Expanding the number of residential sectors is something fairly easy to do.
They just won't do it and theres only one good reason. The BS about limited storage is fake.
they should just make houses cost 500m again
Cosmic Exploration should end with an instanced housing plot on a tiny moon or planet somewhere… like we should’ve had for the Island! lol might as well start campaigning for it now!
If they follow the formula of creating a new district every other expansion, then we’re due for one in 8.0. Most likely Old Sharlayan or Crystarium, but Tuli is also a possibility now… much as I’d like to see them surprise us with Cosmic instanced housing, I know that’s probably just a dream. lol
I have an alt on Goblin in a free company that has been desperately trying to get a house for almost a year now. Last week, there were three houses up for a bid. We had about 20 of the bids out of 60.
We lost again this week.
TURN HOUSING DEMOLITION OFF ALREADY
Edit: Old Sharlayan is the most likely spot for the next housing area. The section east of the city has an NPC who says they are building houses back there.
Again, it's not enough to just slap in more wards (though we DO need more wards).
SE needs to bite the bullet and create a new type of housing ward that eliminates many of the problems in the old ones: namely, that plots are "set" to a specific house size and item slot limits. Proof? There's still smalls going begging on Dynamis, because a lot of people want a Med or Lg, for various reasons (but including item-slot limits).
Make new wards, with say 20 houses per, where all the plots are current Large-house sized and with at least that many slots. Pricing could vary a bit based solely on location.
Once someone wins the lottery for a plot, give them the option of *what size house to buy build permit for* (and option to upgrade or downgrade later, if they want). Smaller number of houses per ward (20 instead of 30 for front, and same for subdivision), ought to lessen server load of more people having more outdoor yard item slots.
Introduce this with whatever new housing location they're putting in, and then add same kind of neighborhoods to older cities' housing. Eventually they might be able to phase out the older housing ward design entirely, but that would mean offering some kind of guaranteed relocation for current owners, which could be a headache. Regardless, they NEED to update neighborhoods with a new design that offers the features above from the get-go: it would help a lot with issues of "a couple hundred people trying for a large or medium, while smalls sit empty," etc. And it would make a whole lot of players VERY happy to have a CHOICE in what size house, and to start off with the biggest yard (and slots) to begin with.
let us be able to make a house on our island it would save alot of time not gonna lie just find a way to have people visite it. other then party, friend and FC then it would be fine
Friends, I have good news that the NA demo timer is on again.
Devs also need to hard limit the ownership of houses to just ONE character per account. The fact that a single player can own an entire ward is ridiculous and has been a major issue for a decade now!
The situation is quite unfortunate and stems mostly from the development team not being willing to slightly increase server load and storage requirements, which are more likely than not going to be quite small...
About 70 servers, 5 housing districts, 30 wards each, 60 plots each district with exteriors as well, 180 apartments each district, probably an upper estimate of about 10 private chambers per free company, with about half the plots being free companies?: (70*5*30)*((30*10)+60*2+180) = 6 300 000 "rooms/furnishables" if you want to call them that, lets assume they have 400 item slots each, and each item slot can contain the ItemID, Dye, Signature, PositionX+Y+Z, Rotation, Uses remaining information (active/inactive is 1 bit so lets include that too). Assuming 64 bits for each of the first 8, and just rounding it to 512 bits, that gives us 204 800 bits per "room/furnishable". In total the storage requirement for ALL the estates even with some room to spare could be 161.28 gigabytes, or lower. That's less than what I can store on my *phone*. It's less than what I can store on *every* device I own. I could download every single server's housing information all at once, about 10 times on a single drive.
Anything in the order of gigabytes to a few terabytes really isn't that bad, if the server rarely needed to access the data...
So, it's not storage (on its own). If we instead consider the networking part, sure, they need to store more stuff in memory, but this is a problem that has many solutions and none of them are too difficult for a company as big as square.
That...is probably, unfortunately. :(
Hard limit on a singular character per account; One individual house and one free company house. It would technically be two, but would go a long way in curbing greedy individuals from taking entire wards.
One possible solution without insight into how any of their systems currently work would be: If they really wanted to be extraordinarily stingy about it they could simply have a client store the information, write a checksum that's unlikely to have collisions (this is easy) for the state of the ward, and then only send the checksum and if the client's data matches the server, it doesn't ever even have to load the ward into memory, and I think this type of solution, maybe done more granularly would mitigate any server load that might be incurred by having more wards, outside of when they are initially added as well as the extra overhead of having to allow more players to connect to ward instances.
You might wonder "but is it safe to trust a client like that?" but the client isn't being trusted anymore with this solution, than it already is. I've seen way too many bots just flying around with no care in the world so clearly that is already handled client-sided and trusted by the server. The only thing that would matter here is the player's position, which if it is desynced intentionally by the player, honestly who cares. They are being checksum checked, worst case send the client a packet to redownload the ward or plot depending on implementation only on the first desync. If the player *has* done anything to alter it with third party tools, there already is nothing they could do about it outside of reporting them to a GM, not that it would really matter that much imo.
It's pretty annoying that they just don't seem to want to increase the amount of wards...
I'm sure if they open-sourced enough portions of their codebase, the community would fix it for them lmao...
Heard the housing slots for items start at 10 000 in WoW. Meanwhile its what? 400 in mansions?
Housing wards, housing items? Is it really just a lack of resources or lack of skill and want from Square Enix?
They are not used up yet.
Its only been 2 years?
Jesus christ, game has nothing going on it feels like its been 10
someday ppl will realize that adding more wards is litterally slapping a band-aid to cure a cancer
Moon Housing coming in 7.5
Trust in the plan
i thought the player count went down pretty far? that means we dont need more housing. problem solved
the issue is that the ward design for personnal housing is a huge fail so you'll never have enough supply vs demand. yoship should get rid of the tinted glasses "it'll feel like a real neighborhood", when was the last time you saw someone in a wards and interacted with them ? probably once or twice in a year
Not saying they are gonna do it, but i would actually be kinda hyped on getting an apartment in Solution 9. Seeing those apartments in game currently, its such a tease that we don't actually have them.
