Beastmaster Speculation

We're still quite a few patches out from getting it but do you have any fun predictions on what we'll be playing with? I'm wondering mostly about what weapon we'll use, and if we'll mount our monsters, play as our monsters or fight along side them. Will the taming system be a copy paste of ff11 or ff5? Do you have a taming method you'd like them to use? I wouldn't mind a mini game where you feed them and while they eat,you go to wrangle them with some ropes.

If they're devoting a whole custom system to it like BLU I'm assuming BST will be FFXIV Pokemon.

I think it's gonna use maiming gear, and use either double hatchets or a hatchet, and shield like we've seen in Bozja, and XI. I think its gameplay is gonna revolve around mounted combat where you and your beast fight as one, and side by side combat where you and your beast are separate. Different beasts, and different sized beasts can change this flow, like some beasts might be too small for a mounted phase. It could have some kind of Masked Carnivale like activity, and a bestiary log to fill out.

I just want the ability to tame monsters. I don't mind if some abilities are something like summoning a beast to do an attack and then leave like SMN but we should have a proper pet. Essentially, a system similar to BM hunter in WoW.

Sadly, since they have been moving away from pets, I fear I will be disappointed.

I'm betting it will be phys ranged for no real reason other than we haven't gotten a new one since ShB. And I imagine it'll probably play like pre-EW SMN did, since iirc their reasoning for the lobotomy was that pet jobs don't really fit in with the way they want to design jobs.. so where better to bring back the concept than in a limited job. But that's all I got for speculation.

Instead of providing constructive criticism for the content on how it could be improved or better implemented into the game, the community will overwhelmingly complain about how it doesn't live up to their class fantasy and shouldn't be a limited job.

We are going to use the soul system from Arcadion. We are not going to get the option to tame alot of beasts.

SE removed pets from Summoner, Scholar and Machinist for a reason.

Mark my words, the MSQ or Arcadion story will reveal something that will allow us to use Beast souls.

I think it's going to function exactly like BLU because it's formulaic. The player will unlock the job, go around in the wild, and "tame" monsters by beating them, and adding them to a "bestiary" using the same interface than the BLU spellbook. The player will then pick which beasts they do want to pick for their hotbars, and they will play like SMN summons or BLU spells, showing up to do an attack, then going away.

Edit: the Arcadion and msq lore bits about beast souls would actually work perfectly as an explanation for the whole concept.

Not too sure about the Arcadion part considering the WoL is against regulators and using souls specifically both in the MSQ and the Arcadion story. I certainly hope BST is not some kind of "druid" archetype transforming using souls.

Highly doubtful. Limited jobs historically have stayed multiple cap levels behind, and introducing regulators to low level folks who may still be in ARR patches or HW as part of a limited job quest just isn't something they would do.

My prediction:

Playstyle: Like SMN. Generic AoEs and Generic ST depending on "summoned" beast.

Beast book: Gather beasts and add them to your book.

Weapon: Something that isn't a pokeball.

That's probably it. If it has literally any depth at all, such as teaching abilities, feeding them, letting them have children or using them as mounts, I'll be surprised, because depth isn't something SE usually bother with in FFXIV.

That's fair.
Although there is still precedent when SE needed a summoner job but primals were evil entities. I hope it doesn't transform either.

As much as I'd like BST to be the same as it's FFXI equivalent (I loved that job) or even on par with WoW's Hunter, unfortunately based on the DT story and the heavy focus on Arcadion/Solution 9 in end-game I can see it been a "You capture the souls of creatures you have fought in a regulator then can use their abilities in battle" or something to that effect.

Lets face it,. it'll be a SMN/BLU clone - the dev's are not exactly known for bringing us something unique and fresh at present.

Anyone saying BST is gonna use feral souls like the Arcadion fighters, has not been paying attention to the Arcadion story -- or the MSQ. BST is more than likely gonna be like XI's or what we've seen in Bozja. Even the VPR antagonist was doing beastmastery things.

And you probably haven't been paying attention to how primals have been treated since the very beginning, yet we're having jobs safely using them, and they even introduced a story macguffing in Endwalker to further seal the deal as it suited the story and lore of the moment.
But I do agree that I don't think they're going to go that path for BST.

TBH, my evil wish is that they make one of the requirements for unlocking BST behind finishing the Bozja storyline - it would make sense since that's where we're first introduced to the concept of the job properly, and also it would be really funny seeing the reactions from people. They won't, but it's still a funny idea.

It’s probably 2 patches away at this point, but I wish they’d at least give us some teasers here and there… I’d also really like to know what role gear it’s going to be using so I could start collecting gear sets with my maxed out poetics.

I really hope it's not the arcadion stuff cuz that seems too boring to me. I want to tame beast not merge with them. Most of these arcadion transformations are either furry bait or just ugly. The glamour i make would be overwritten by me with giant thighs and a snout xDDD

Also really hoping it's ranged physical but i really doubt it after bozja.

well beast master main weapon in the older games are whips sooooo

It's not appropriate for me to start a new thread about this as frankly I've left. Back, who knows 'if' now. But i just popped into the will be live letter stream (YouTube, don't do that twitch stuff. Really don't get it) and so far the chat is one dude flexing he's progging FT and the rest is Beastmaster.
I never did anything with Blue Mage. Didn't see the point.

• There is no real 'multiplayer' 'content' for it.

All the spell farming is done in OP unlimited instances. (You can imagine what someone who hates one hit farms, and unsynced Khloes thinks of that)
I can't bare the over and over again blue mage moogle event meta speed farms.

So just like the new deep dungeon being added to the other deep dungeons I'm not interested in because casual static is an oxymoron.. This casual had no interest in upcoming beastmaster, because I'd been assuming it won't be any good for multiplayer.

Heck I never unlocked Viper because all I've got to do with it is stale rouls, and wanted to try high end for first time this expansion, so a new job would have been hopeless.

Square Enix, i hope you've got decent multiplayer content for beastmaster coming, that is both challenging, and can be queued casually without a PF.

Although it's very niche content only done by a small number of people, it does have multiplayer content:
- Blue Mage log - you just setup a PF saying you're completing a dungeon with all BLU and they'll join you. Can be chill and fun, and different.
- Blue Mage weeklies - these also include extreme trials as all BLU often done in PF. Can be fun too since, similar to Unreal, some of them aren't as hard as others, and BLU can cheese them to a certain extent.
- Morbol mount and achievements - usually ends up needing a static, and it is niche content, but the chances are that 7 other people in the world are looking to do this as well.
- Obviously ended up common to farm mogtomes for a while.

But it's not really done by a mainstream of players. Most likely it would benefit from a roulette for each of those activities. If that doesn't work, it's possible most players just aren't interested in it whatever they do, without it being level cap. The precedent could predict a similar thing happening to Beastmaster though.

But the problem you run into, is the reason all I did with OC is hit level 20 for the story and then leave never to return
I don't need the jobs (only apply to FT,)
I dint need the gear (only apply to FT)
Same for blue mage. I dint need the spells for anything except solo carnivale, so i don't need the spells. So PF spell collection doesnt apply.
And why do I want to use blue mage to complete instances I've already cleared, when blue mage now means i have to deal with doing nothing in a PF while it fills, and probably never see it fill.
I'm not convinced many people want to do all blue MINE extreme. In fact I don't. I've haven't done most of them normal MINE, I don't need to add blue to that.
And if blue ubiquitously makes them a cakewalk which i thought they did? Not interested.
Need actual, multiplayer *casual* (queue now) content. PF is out of the question.

Beatmaster just needs a 'multiplayer' carnivale that doesn't rely on PF.

Maybe they'll use one-hand axe + shield like the BSTs in Bozja? Or maybe a whip?

I do predict that the job's main feature will be twofold:

1) Customize your companion to be other creatures rather than just the Chocobo, and being able to queue with it on instanced content. You do this to capture additional companions.

2) A special battle system where you control just your companion in an arena setting, and differently from BLU where they face PVE enemies, this one is more focused on battling other player's companions.

I would LOVE a Limited Job roulette if it means easy to get into BLU parties.

Outside of their update patches is really hard to get a group going, I remembered last time I tried not too long ago it took me over one hour to get a party going for a dungeon, probably because it was a Log objective that didn't have any spells. Can't even imagine trying to set up when the objective is an Alliance Raid.

A limited roulette is WAY overdue for implementation and bst release would be perfect for it. Make it give tons of times and allied seals for running it!
