When will people realize it's not DDoS, it's SE's own horrible server infrastructure?

Oh look, another DC, this time Crystal, has apparently suffered a massive "DDoS" attack, according to the players.

Except... there's just one little quirk here. Not everyone got booted out. If you do not go into an instance, you will not have been booted out.

What does this say? Do you really think that DDoS attackers have the capability of targeting specific servers under the same IP? That they're just DDoSing Crystal's instance server directly?

It looks like even Square Enix can no longer maintain this pretense. They don't call it DDoS's anymore. Here's what they literally say now just a few days ago:

And on the 9th, Primal has crashed as well, and it seems like it'll go into a maintenance as well. Who knows how long it will last?

Square Enix's game servers are failing. They have not invested anything into improving the quality of their server infrastructure. In fact, it has gotten progressively worse and worse over the years. The NTT node issue has gone unfixed for years. In every single Savage patch, the ping spikes up, the disconnections come back, and the lag appears, as everyone floods the servers. It's predictable as clockwork, and yet they have not done a single thing in fixing the issue. Even the forums now have frequent 502 errors. They can't even be bothered to maintain the server(s) for their forum!

Why do you think that is? Here's the reality: they know their servers suck, and they don't care. FF14 is a low-priority project for them, while they put their resources into making other games.

It absolutely is Square Enix problem, Once a week this point Servers die and they just pretend its honkey doorey.

I made the mistake of going to Diabolos tonight now i'm in limbo can't transfer home, Can't log in.

This point my Sub should be free cause i can't play even if i want to, Or give me a full Cruiserweight set and i'll be quiet >_>

This 1x a week nonsense is messed up.

Yeah I fully agree, why am I paying a sub for a game that I can barely play, I LOVE FFXIV, I love the world, the classes, the content, all of it. But not being able to even LOG ON is getting really annoying, especially cause I wanna prog this savage tier, it's been a not great last 2 weeks for servers

Wow, the juggernaut of the mmo industry has been getting ddos'd lately and if they can't stop it with microsoft backing, then there really is nothing mmo devs can do besides trying to get the ddoser's arrested

There's many problems with the game but i don't think this is one they can really do much about

If its DDOS why is Dynamis working?

Only 1 DC is affected to the point it just straightup crashed and got marked as "Under Maintenance"

This Ain't DDOS, This is SE cutting corners trying to be as cheap as possible and it's backfiring. My Buddies are playing on Dynamis right now zero issues, They didn't even know the server was affected till i mentioned being unable to come home and do treasure maps >_>

Yes, the billion dollar company can't do much about upgrading their servers so they don't crash, can't do much about communicating with their host ISP and other ISPs to get tunneling sorted out. :rolleyes:

Agreed. We in the Final Fantasy XIV Movement (yes, this is a movement) play this game to fight against Blizzard. We all came here because we hate WoW, so no matter what happens, FFXIV will always be better. There is literally NOTHING that Square Enix can do. Literally every online game has this problem, and we like that. At least Yoshida-sama (praise be upon him) isn’t like Bobby “Cosby Suite” Kotick. We in the FFXIV Movement stand with Yoshida-sama. I think the best solution to this it's to support our beloved developers and Yoshi by purchasing items from the cash shop, everyone gets a $30 usd mount so hopefully they can buy new servers.

They never will, because most people are harboring under the false logic of "If it isn't happening to all of us, then it is therefore not them (Square Enix), but somewhere on the path"... Whilst neglecting the fundamental fact that multiple IPs are servicing the DC, so outages are usually aren't DC-wide, and the fact is that they just generally can't be bothered maintaining and servicing their infrastructure.

The funny thing about all of this is, Warframe servers never die like this.

Square Enix doesn't have an excuse, They make hand over fist in sub money you can afford servers.

So true.... Made a thread last night saying the same thing. There are too many servers, and the ones we do have suck ass. At least on NA. If you aren't on the west coast and/or spend $100+ a month on your internet, it's over.

They really do need to close Dynamis, Fuse them into Primal. I'm on Dynamis / Halicarnassus it's dead. These servers literally only exist for Housing . . That's it. Nothing sells, The stuff that does is to DC hoppers who use third party apps to find cheap prices which Hali is forced to do cause nobody has money here / frugal purchases. If you aren't selling at a 50% discount of other servers it generally does not sell unless it's a highly used item like Shaaloni coke.

Take the machines being used for Dynamis and put them to work on Aether, Crystal & Primal it is literally a waste to keep them open for clowns that log in once a month for houses. 90% of the houses on hali i've never ONCE seen the owner, House is barren, Same owner for 1 year and almost all of them have meme names like House One, Those houses need to be reportable and once investigated then have it seized. People want houses they'll root out the bots after a report threshhold an admin manually checks for player activity on the house, guarantee it's all owned by one dude who just wants a ward to themselves nothing of value would be lost.

TLDR; Aside from a very minor number of actual players people wouldn't be impacted by housing going poof from hali atleast. Idk bout the other worlds but that is 100% what's going on in Hali . . Waste of server space that could be used for an active DC. I'm literally only on Dynamis cause prior to DT they literally forced you to go there. No other NA server would allow you to make a new character. I make new characters for EVERY expansion and cannibalize what's left on the old one after i get caught up.

I'm thoroughly convinced that all the connection issue are being caused by people using degenerate 3rd party plugins and there is no way you can disprove my Schizo-theory (real) without exposing yourself as a cheater who breaks the ToS.

Its those dirty Plugin-users and they all deserve to be perma-banned

I Realize this is satire but at same time, They really should Ban anyone who uses tools. Selling stuff on Market is a pain in the butt right now thanks to bots scanning for lowest prices so the plugin can cheese the market. You're already at a disadvantage if you play on Dynamis, The bot nonsense makes it 4x harder to sell anything.

Why? your argument makes it even worse. WOW has dozens of addons that do even more invasive stuff. Yet they have no problems with servers being poked by addons constantly.
conclusion the servers and network is total dial up era trash. The tools should no effect at all when you consider server population into it. Don't punish the player for horrible hardware and networking.
