They can't because of spaghetti monster. All glam items are considered on your person from how I understood how it works.
I agree, the problem with glamour needs to be solved. I have a character that I have been playing for 3 years now and over these years I have leveled up all jobs to 90+ (except for crafting, they are about 60). Over these years I have collected a lot of clothes and weapons and now all the free slots are filled (glamour mirror, 4 retainers, my inventory, chocobo bag). For this reason, I can't even play on my character now because there is simply no free space to get an item for the quest.
Of course, I can throw something away to free up some space, but I have already done that.
My advice to all players. Playing on all classes is a trap for collectors like me)
I am currently playing with a new character, the Monk, but I already understand that this is not it. He has no emotions, no music, no mounts from my collection, no hairstyles, etc.
For this reason, I don’t play much now, I only go in as a Monk for PVP and the story.
Now now.. if they fix this, they'd be giving up those extra money they get from additional retainers! :P
/s
Lol that retainer joke hurts cause it might be true
The server infrastructure can't handle it, and improving it to the point that the dresser could even hold another hundred items would take too much time and money away from things with a lower RoI.
Glamour log would fix their issues.
They're almost there with the dresser outfits, but it's still a bloody mess.
They need to redo the code for the glamour dresser, it clearly has issues.
The excuse of "spaghetti code" and "servers can't handle it" got old a few years ago.
it's 2025, the technology exists. if the code or servers can't handle it then make it handle - the devs have the source code, they can do whatever they want.
I made a couple posts about it, i know how to design a bunch of different types of glamour log, please let me know if anyone's interested in discussing it in detail.
Yeah i need like 200 glamour plates atleast
I'm just begging for at least 400 new glamour slots and 20 new available glamour plates at the VERY LEAST!!! I beg, Mr. Square Enix! My glamour dresser needs mire room for these 7.1 and 7.2 glams!!!! Q~Q
they abandon every system at some point.
squads abandoned.
chocobo outdated and weak.
storage system abandoned.
The mobile game of FF14 has another system, like the one of World of Warcraft. Its a clean and simple system where you not must put items inside the dresser!
When you aquire a model of an item set you get it checked as "i have found it" than you go to the glamour dressen and have everything you ever "found" as options!
Let me be clear, the system that we have now in FF14 main game was a bad idea from the start, the one who is made by LightSpeed Studios (Tencent) is a huge win over that old one.
Kill the old system and go on, would be the best for Square Enix, but i think they will never do this, simply because CBU3 has about 400-500 people while other mmo devs have 3-4 times the menpower.
Of course it can be done. The only question is how much it costs, and if it's worth the price - to the people that have to pay the bills at the end of the month.
And taiming that spaghetti monster can cost enormous sums of money, especially when it's ages old, and the people who raised it years ago are no longer available for the job. Source: 40 years of experience working in IT.
That being said, I wholeheartedly agree with the OP - the current system is just a PITA.
True! And it do not stops there, even the combat and the story is now abandoned.
Examples:
- The half time fight in dawntrail, where was the gration who was repaired by the garlemald empire? Where was Midgardsormr? Where was the G-Warrior? Where was one of the Weapon Projects?
- Combat Encounters! Where are Adds, where are split boss sections to fight at the same time, where are jump and run elemets. They are all gone, its always, bullet hell style rooms! Oh and yes they go on a little bit in 7.2. To FASTER, while they flash with so much AoEs that i can't raid anymore because i get my eyes starts to hurt, its to much and to much lag, even when i sit in the same city as the european servers are!"
Square Enix is stuck in the past, 35 years ago, where 10 people can build in an office a game called mario cart. And all starts with the head, the leader Yoshi-P or should i say Yoshi-PR is also stuck in the past.
They must rebuild the whole game and if they want to go on bullet hell, they need an engine who has not about 1000-10000ms internal serverlag. Also not have a dev team that is about 300-400 people while other companies have about 1500. Like Kuro Games with Wuthering Waves, yes it is a gatcha game, but the level of details in this game are nuts. From gameplay, to system that stack on each other to amazing bossfights and cutscenes. While SE want 60$ aka 4 months per patch and not deliver a full AAA game of content. We get 4 hours of "Talk to that NPC" that is not even fully voiced and one dungeon with the same mechanics as every dungeon. Aoes to evade it is.... every time!
they made garlemald look like some hick town. a mighty empire is some hick town... That entire zone made me think of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBKOIRxeNX0&t=11s
cid trashed our g warrior just as plot justification so they never have to revisit mech combat.
how much you want to bet they have a script or hotkey that says place "speak with lamat" quest dialogue here.
Garlemald is one of the massacres in gaming history. They build up the plot of Garlemald since 1.0, give us in 2.0 Gaius, than the weapons, zenos, hydros, the Emperor and hinted it to the ascians. They peaked it, give us one of the biggest clashes in history of the game, the clash of zenos and the warrior of light. Set it on a twist that we must rescue the Warrior of Light in a full addon! And than? Garlean Empire is massacred off-screen! The whole story... GONE! All the build up wasted! And what they do in 7.0 they give us garlemald 2.0 and call it alexandria. The whole garlemald thing was wasted. I expected in endwalker, that we 5 of the 6 zones where only the city of garlemald! First zone was the exteriror, 4 zones interior of the city and the last was on the moon and than we get a new addon to have the whole plot with the bigger evil.
But to the topic! You are 100% right, all the level of detail from buildings and scenes are also stuck 20-40 years in the past.
Example: This is not a low poly version of the viera town in shadowbringer, that is out of everquest. But it looks like the low poly version of viera town!

SE produce mostly empty scenes with no real life in it and that is lifeless feeling is in every aspect of the game. They have no passion anymore, from cut scenes, to game play, to story, it is all shallow and boring!
And all the devs should do one thing "Play whitemage without the chocobo from 2.0 to 7.2. and you know what PAIN is"
a game from 2001 in maintenance mode can still out do this game because the level of apathy SE has towards it.https://i.ibb.co/pjQKP3M4/anarchy-on...800-929723.jpg
I've never played it so correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't WOW have some sort of system where once you have obtained an item once, you have it's appearance unlocked forever?
Also Diablo has a system where once you dismantle an item you unlock it's appearanceand in Monster hunter you earn special tickets to unlock the appearance of other armor sets.
Why can't we just have that? I'm not a developer so I have no idea about creating a game, but how is it that a 20 year old game can do it but FFXIV can't?
We need more space! The amount of clothing I am unwilling to throw away is too damn high! Fashionistas deserve rights too!

Yes please.
To be honest, I don't think it's a technical issue? Sure, 'spaghetti code' stops them implementing the system into the existing framework, but ripping the system up and starting again from scratch could also be on the table. It'd probably make them more money too, so it's not like losing money on retainers is a serious consideration.
I think it's an issue of goodwill and sunk player resources, the same problem that plagues housing. They COULD, but that'd mean wiping the slate, and that includes YOUR glamour plates, and YOUR cash shop dyes, the same way 'fixing decorating' would likely mandate resetting every home build in the game.
If nothing else, I'd like them to expand the outfit system.
Just imagine how many slots we could save if we could turn any set into outfit.
Dungeon, raid and tomestone sets simply chillin', eating ton of space being separate items in the Dresser.
Not to mention Armoire having the "Artifact Armor" -category that has been long since forgotten.
It would help a lot if outfit glamours were expanded to include dungeon and raid gear sets...
I don’t think that’ll happen. From what I understand, all the glamour plates and items kind of ‘follow’ your character everywhere — they’re just hidden.
So even if you don’t see them, the game still keeps them in memory. The limit’s there to save space, so I guess they’re afraid to mess with it
I really want to understand the technical reasons why this is so difficult for them. It doesn't seem like any other game has the problems with player inventories that they do.
If they'd be able to do infinite glamour dresser, they could do infinite housing decorations/inventories/storages etc.
What you are asking is "Can we store all our items in a dresser so that we all simultaneously can crash from the game"
There is a reason for the limit. They increase it slowly but surely but going overboard can hurt the system.
OK I sound like I know what I am talking about, but this is basically the base concept given why it cannot be as we wish.
I wonder, have you ever played on a new character after a long time playing your main?
Whenever I go on my alt character, or make new, or whatever... I feel so "light" and "less lag".
My main always feels like 200 pounds heavier, no matter what.... It is because everything counts. I hate the system honestly.
But I wonder what the solution could be.
They literally just need to hire a small team of 3-4 autistic coders and this will be fixed in a month, if not earlier.
I've done this multiple times over the years and then I inevitably look back at some of those AF gear sets from previous expansions and go out collecting them again, lol!
I've removed all my AF gear from my glamour dresser yesterday, but just crammed all of them into a retainer until I decide to pick and choose which ones to get rid of for now.
I'll probably be sticking with the Samurai and Ninja AF gear from Endwalker and Dawntrail because I just really like their design. Oh! And my Dawntrail Dark Knight gear! You see the problem I have here? So much of the AF gear looks so good like this!!!! Q~Q
It's because of the glamour plates, which are floating items in a sense. Kind of like a micro-chocobo bag that doesn't go with you to outskirts and instance servers.
Basically with MMO architecture you have stuff that follows you no matter where you go and that is not unlimited no matter what anyone says. They expand capability with stuff like choco bag that doesn't go to instance servers, so that saves capacity. Limit on plates is another capacity limit. All that is ever stored on your machine locally in terms of what you have is a snapshot manifest of what drawer, armoure, and what retainers have this allows the /isearch to work, but that's all it does.
