I think we should split PC From Console

This way Square Enix can't play games and say "Sony is holding updates back" or people can't turn around and say "It needs to be playable on Ps4"

That ain't an excuse in 2025, Like . . Sorry you can't run it but maybe you should've thought about that when you chose a console. If you can't afford a 200$ walmart PC to play XIV you got other problems. And yes, At this point the average walmart PC is stronger than PS4 will ever be.

PS4 Needs to be sunset or given their own special space for special little boys.

My original character was on Ps4 back when Stormblood hit and that ran like trash, I can only imagine how it runs in 2025 . .

Takes like these are always hilarious to see when you stop to think about it for even a second. Consoles have static specs that developers can work around as opposed to the massive differences between high end PCs and what some folks try to get away running games on that make even a PS4 look glamorous by comparison. Then you can look back at XIV's history and see the time they made a game without taking the PS3 into account and find that good PCs at that time of release struggled to even handle the games cutscenes.

Then to look further, support for older consoles are eventually dropped for better resources. I speculate that PS4 support has only lasted as long as it has due to the shitshow of PS5's release and how long it took for gamers to actually get a hold of a console of their own rather than it being hoarded by scalpers.

Getting rid of PC players with their cheating tools and add-ons sounds fine. Bonus points for getting rid of the NSFW nightclub crowd with their modded characters.

Pure delusion if you really think they'll remove a section of the playerbase.
Even if only 2 people are left using PS4, they'll keep it alive for those 26$ a month

No thanks. We don't need the population split. I enjoy the fact we have PC and console together, even if sometimes console players can't talk much.

Consoles are underpowered pieces of crap and on top of that you have to deal with all of the console manufacturer's bullshit (like "whom is allowed to play together with whom" which can become a huge headache when you factor bullshit such as ps+ subscriptions into the mix. My favorite was the ability to use a ps vita as controller on ps4: nobody cared, nobody did it, but Sony promised that it would work for every game so they forced every developer to do the work of implementing and supporting it).

So there's actually a significant cost to supporting consoles.

Ps4 is not the problem you think it is

A bit too late to fix this issue. This should've been fixed in the development phase. The console tax has already being carried and paid for year after year. So it is what it is.

Whoever is running the marketing team needs to get fired or their Sony deals reconfigured. They missed out a huge market for locking FFXVI on console only, by the time it released on PC nobody was interested in it and had watched the lets plays already. As mediocre and marred with the grand "formula" as 16 was too, wouldve still sold more if it was console AND PC. But Japan is still stuck in the console age, they only gave up floppy disks like... 2 years ago? And are still using fax machines. It's a land of many wonders, both 50 years ahead and 50 years behind at the same time.

At least the phone version will be done separately, so kudos to SE on that.

If truth is to be told, SE is just lazy. Although I'm always in favor of throwing off the shackles of consoles if it means less technical limitations.

We don't need to. There's only a few instances in hunts and exploratory content, and those can easily be solved by finding whatever goldilocks amount of time something has to be immune for so that the majority of people can get credit.

Do these folks realize how large of a playerbase there is on PS4/PS5? I've played on console my entire 11 years, from PS4 to PS5.

what is the argument here? That sony's holding them back with weird deals, some belief that console players aren't willing to communicate, the 48+ hotbar space controllers offer limiting skill count, not being able to install mods, issues with opening guides linked in chat?

Think there's better things to blame for the update schedule at least

Doesn't matter, since they won't really know how to make use of anything. All they'll do is slice off some player base and do absolutely nothing to take advantage of not needing to design around PS4 specification.

They already dropped PS3 in the past and have hinted multiple times that the Ps4 will eventually follow suit. They will just give the ps5 version for free for a limited time.

It actually is, it's a 12 year old console that's been outdated since 2020. Rumors say it will be dropped for 8.0 and I hope it does, PS5's are affordable now, especially in the used market.

A lot of the folks I play with use console, so it may be with some bias that I say it, but I don't feel like splitting the community to that degree is the best option. Perhaps, as which happens with older PCs, as time goes on the outdated consoles might get left behind, but I wouldn't want to see them dropped or split-off entirely. If/when PS4 support does end, I hope they'll offer those players an update option to PS5 rather than having to re-buy the whole game they already own.

I hear what you're saying about content being simplified, and I don't think 'accessibility' is the real reason unfortunately. Actual attempts to address accessibility issues have been steadily ignored, even though we've followed the directions we were given for how to report the problems. Content and classes being simplified? Yeah, for sure. Is it out of a concern for accessibility? At this point I seriously doubt it.

Yes yoshi p helped PS5 gamers with free update of final fantasy 14 game. If you have the game on ps4 you have same game on ps5.

That's why Blizzard never released WoW for consoles, even tho there was high demand. They would have needed to dumb the game down so hard that in the end it would have killed it.

It's not just graphics, also the whole systems, classes, loot tables, mechanics, UI interface, dungeons, bosses and so on need to be dumbed down hard to make a console being able to handle it.

But I can't see a japanese company doing a PC-only MMO, seeing that PC gaming in Japan historically has a bad aftertaste.

Thats not even true, Blizzard wont release it because Blizzard is dumb as fuck, theres is already a MOD which implent the Controllersupport and its for a Mod incredible good and works really good, played alot with it, Blizzard is just lazy and dumb

I would say the game is dumbed down for PC players. Tab targeting is not a console game design, consoles brought us games like Monster Hunter and Dark Souls. Dragon's Dogma is an open world RPG which was designed for console with fantastic class design.

Well I have never played FF11 or Phantasy Star Online, but Phantasy Star Portable 2 was a fantastic game with good gameplay, loot, bosses and dungeons on the freaking PSP.

What are you even talking about?

it's what PC Master race think and believe like with how PC are expensive they think they should be the focus and not console. most game a made with ps5 in mind then get a adaptation on other console and PC.

You are saying this as if pc low spec support doesn’t exist. Ps4 is not the lowest margin they have. Games are still released on ps4, pretty silly for an outdated console? SE won’t make ff14 into some magical next gen just if they drop ps4. It’s quite obvious they don’t use the whole capacity of it even now, and that’s cause their internal engine is lacking, even after supposedly being upgraded in places.

The very original PSO was a Dream cast release, if my memory serves me right, only until PSOBB we start seeing PC version

Anyway, splitting PC and console on FFXIV is a very poor idea

I jumped from ps1 to ps4.

If it means upgrading the game to DX12 and fixing all of the performance issues the game has, I'm all for it. But I don't necessarily want to see console support removed altogether, but just get rid of PS4 already. It has no business holding progress back in 2025.

I also think it's time to retire PS4. There's plenty of hardware limitations between that and PS5.
