I am so sick and tired of this lottery system for housing. I have now bid on over 75 houses and haven't won a single one. That is bidding every period when a house even becomes available. No one should have to wait until someone stops playing and the house get repossessed to even have a chance to bid on one. Almost every single house I've ever bid on has been against at least 30 other people.....that is at most a 3% chance to win and is just plain unacceptable.
Fix the Housing!!!

This has been an ongoing issue for years and it doesn't look to be resolved any time soon sadly. Your only choices for now are to keep trying to win a plot or move to Dynamis (not Seraph, as housing there is just as bad now) or create/move an alt in Dynamis and get a plot there until your main wins theirs. I did that when Seraph went live and eventually my main in Exodus won her plot after trying for 7 years last June.
If you haven't yet, try getting an apartment for now as well or a FC room if you're in a FC that has their own plot of housing. Instance housing would help solve this issue but I dunno if it will ever be utilized in this game but they should add it. Your Island Sanctuary is the closest we have to instance housing and it allows you to decorate it with outside furnishings (90 slots max). I personally want Island Sanctuary to be turned into instanced housing. -

My first plot on excalibur was in the mist because Shiro was selling out rapidly an on the cusp of crashing, so I went to the Mist to look where the demand wasn't so high.
Eventually I found a random plot out in the lavender beds(not a fan of lB), brought it until I found a better plot, which the plot next to my private eventually was vacated and I moved it there.
Take anything until the option for something better.Comes along rather than being picky.And get what you can get your hands on, do whatever you can to increase your chances rather then wait on a company that has a financial investment in leaving the system the way it is.
Get your foot in the door then worry about everything afterward -

I do have a room in a large FC house and my island sanctuary, (not getting into how you have to have a crafter at 90 or spend a good chunk of gil buying the island glamours) Every cycle on my server there is maybe 2-3 houses that become available and it is almost always the smalls. I can't even get a better than 2-3% chance of winning one. I have better odds of getting my Rathalos mount in a chest.(got 22 of the scale+, and don't even get my started the amount of times I killed Shinryu and Suzaku lol, so many totems.)

Getting a house in World of Warcraft: Midnight is designed to be very easy and accessible, costing only ~1,000 gold per plot with no lottery or limited availability. Upon logging in, players receive a quest to start the, which, when completed, allows them to immediately choose and purchase an unoccupied plot in a neighborhood. also, the quest rewards you with 1,000 gold.
SO to break this down
1. Get housing quest, rewards = unlock housing, gives 1,000gold
2. Complete quest.
3. Use completed quest gold to buy a house.
SE has become greedy, They have partnered up with Nintendo to give players FFXIV for switch 2. Nintendo is charging SE a fee to have the game on its system. SE passes the fee off to its players. So no you have to pay for a subscription to have a subscription. SE is going down the tube man. This game needs to ether Die or given to a different team that understands that gamers are what keep your game running. respect us or we will leave. then again FFXIV player base IS dying.... wonder why -

FFXIV Housing IS a problem EVERYONE knows this, the only people who act like it is not are the ones who believe "this is a fair system" like it is a faith. You have ZERO critical thinking for yourself, a sheep. SE is a greedy pig when it comes to its slave players. Milk everything they can and act like they care. IF that was true why are they making people buy a subscription and limit the material offered? THEN if you own a switch 2 you have to buy a subscription to FFXIV AND a subscription on the Switch 2? why? because Nintendo is charging SE for the servers, and what is SE doing about that? making the gamer (the consumer) pay for its business deal.

Where exactly do you get that from? You have no proof at all that SE is passing off the fee. It could well be Nintendo refused to allow people to use their online services without getting something out of it, i.e. the sub price at least. And given subbed players get 50% off it might be that SE is actually giving up their slice of the pie and the remaining 50% of the sub fee is going straight to Nintendo. You either pay an extra few £ a month if you're already subbed, which while not great it's not a huge cost. Or if you wanna play switch only you pay the normal sub cost which is also fine. The largest complaint I see from people engaged in housing these days is the desire to get a bigger house, which they have said they will add the housing mirage in future. And once it can become a mansion on the inside it's gonna be awesome and I suspect more people will want one of those plots for it's view outside.
Also OP, complaining about needing to level a crafter to decorate your island? What do you think you're gonna need to do when you get a house?! So many housing items need a high level crafter to be made or else you need to buy it... same as you would the island. Anyway, best of luck on your future bids. -

WoW housing is also regionwide, not realm (world) based so they have a hard limit of 2 houses per game account regardless of how many realms a player has characters on. To have more than 2, a player has to have more than 2 accounts. Compare that to here, where I can potentially have 85 personal houses on my account (one per world) and another 440 FC houses assuming I can get that lucky in the lottery on each world.
I'm still not exceptionally impressed with WoW's housing overall but definitely they learned a lot from the complaints that FFXIV players have about housing. It's still got problems - having to level the house primarily through endeavors to increase room and item limits plus variety of rooms but only being able to gain endeavor XP for one of your two houses at a time, having to grind out old reputation/renown currencies to purchase most decor items, a crazy amount of lumber farming needed to craft most of the crafted decor items, some steep gold costs for other decor items, etc. But getting your 2 houses is simple enough and the item placement system is superior. WoW at least addressed those problems that we see here. -
