Glamour Set Appreciation Thread

Seriously cannot stop raving about this feature. As a hardcore collector that isn't even that interested in glamour, I've probably spent months of my life farming the transmogrification journal in WoW just to see my completion number go up. In a single patch, CS3 has added more than 400 little objectives to collect by filling out sets in the glamour chest.

I'm fairly far along in XIV "unlockables" (1928/2160) for reference. Adding this feature has increased the number of things to unlock by 20%.

The UI is still a little clunky compared to WoW's and I really wish there was a "simplify glamour chest" button, but overall I am very happy with this feature. If this were to eventually extend out to combat gear (dungeons, raids, etc) and increase the capacity of the glamour chest, I can promise FFXIV would never have a problem filling duty queues ever again.

I really hope CS3 sees the huge potential here. I now have a compelling reason to go out and spend Wolf's Marks on something besides ventures. I need to go back to farm Rathalos for the + pieces and variant dungeons for potsherds. I will probably sink hundreds of millions into the market board to buy sets I might not have even wanted otherwise, giving me a reason to spend gil on something besides 50M mounts. I'll be going into old treasure dungeons to craft sets like Whisperfine and New World.

And if this were to stretch out to combat sets, I would gladly farm every instance from Sastasha to the Jeuno: The First Walk just to see the number go up.

This will be a real game changer when they extend it to higher level gear.

As a viera, I've given up on collecting most hats or all the hats I do have are stashed in random retainers that may or may not be active. Just wish the effort to store all these gear sets wasn't just more salt in the wounds when it comes to now having to collect hats I can't wear just to store gear sets. And mostly that it wouldn't cost me real life money to pull some of this stuff out of storage, and not because I get to finally wear it.

That's not to say that I would rather it not exist, I'm glad it's an option and hope it gets expanded upon for more leveled sets soon!

Do you really have to take the whole set out of the dresser just to then put it back in as a set? That can't be real. There's gotta be like a button that just does it that I'm not seeing, right? Like I can right click and search and the game knows the other pieces are there in the dresser. Why would it not just do it?

Here's my guess: the glamour dresser stores an item id and 1/2 dye ids per slot. Assuming some sort of fixed-byte storage, I suspect the new system is built by treating an item set as a pseudo-item with an item ID and some flag value for stain in the DB. So inserting sets is roughly the same as inserting a single item, except with a different transaction.

As for why the system doesn't auto-collapse sets, it would probably be a fairly expensive operation in terms of item transactions to fully collapse everything. So they just accept the soft-rate limiting of letting us sort stuff. Plus for new items / new players it's not so much of a problem.

While I generally like the addition, it's already saved me over a hundred slots, the big downside of not being able to set a dye from the dresser is my biggest issue, since there's quite a few items I like having set to Pure White or Jet Black by default, I've kept a few glamours separated purely for that reason. Even still, I enjoy the extra space saved and there's a few items that I didn't mind losing those dyes to gain a few extra slots.

I definitely look forward to combat gear implementing this, it'll give me a good reason to go through and collect as much old gear as I can if it only ends up taking 1 slot for an entire set. I'd just like to be able to save the dyes for things stored in the dresser.

I'm far from the limits of my glamour dresser, but the space-saving is useful for the future nonetheless. I just hope they'll be able to improve the feature when more work can be done. Dyes are important, but my biggest dream for the feature is to remove class locks to open new glamour opportunities. I'll keep hoping they find a way.

Glamour plate loadouts.

More active/dynamic plates may be a much harder thing to do, but a system that stores plate data in the dresser and lets us swap them out at the dresser? I'd like that ^^

I am hoping for this...I currently have every set from the ARR Alliance Raids and EW Alliance Raids and it would be amazing to be able to stack them like the cosmetic sets.
Similar cosmetics like various colors of Byregotia Chokers paired together as a set would be a huge improvement too.

I am also a bit frustrated with the dye issue...but I'm so over the inventory overflow that anything I haven't put on my character in the last 6mths to a year I've collapsed into a set. I can't help but wonder if this just a spaghetti code issue or an effort to push more Mogstation purchases of White/Black dyes and the general dye economy as well in the game. Perhaps all of it.

I do find it more than a bit silly that some sets if you want all the pieces still take up 2 slots because they have more than one chest/pant option. Those really should be combined.
Ex. Coeurl Swim Set, Island Sanctuary Sets
There is also a funny issue that if the cosmetic items were crafted at a higher quality and the others aren't he higher quality item has to have its quality lowered to go together.

That said, I have 677/800 slots so far, when I was capped at 800 before, after condensing down Wolf Marks, Series Crystals, MSQ, and Crafted Cosmetics.

For me, this feature also only becomes useful once it can hold color, because I like to dye in purewhite and jetblack. : )

Im superhappy, I sacrificed a bunch of jet black /pure white dyes yesterday, I can get more gil it is fine. But to suddenly have that much storage and yes, just like you I ran rathalos ex to grab my missing pieces. the only dumb thing (besides losing the dyes) was that some sets required double the amount. they shouldve just put like all of the salon servers pieces into one. But yeah Im happy, probably spent two hours yesterday just on putting stuff from my retainers into my glam dresser. :)

This feature is almost entirely useless to me, because the dyes don't get saved. I'm way too cheap/lazy to dye the same pieces over and over again and with only 20 glam plates I can't save dyed stuff on the glam plates indefinitely either. The only items I would put into the sets is stuff I don't actively use and then it has no business being in my glam box in the first place.

I'd be much happier if they had finally given us more glam plates and more box space.

I got a refund of about 100 slots not counting incomplete sets. Its a decent workaround.

It's still just a bandaid fix. This problem has already been solved. Just copy WoW's transmog system. We don't need to waste time reinventing the wheel.

I deeply enjoy it as a feature but it has two major issues: One, what people mentioned about erasing dye, I have far, far, faaaaaaaaaaaar too many pieces in Jet Black and Pure White that redying them would cost me far too much gil, and two, it needs to be applied to more sets, right now it only affects level 1 universal glam items, so any Job-locked things are SoL.

Mind it made me incredibly glad I had chosen to be a lil bit silly and keep the identical Rathalos items that I had no point in keeping until now.

This system will likely never hold dye information since that goes against the idea of simplifying the data down. The whole point with this is to reduce a full set to what amounts to a single item. If you wanted to hold the detail of each items dye setup, you’re basically back to the original amount of information.

If we are ever going to get something along the lines of WoW’s transmog system, dyes will always need to be confined to the glamour plates at most. It’s too much variation to add for each specific item in terms of dresser storage.

If I'm correct about the way it's being stored, it seems likely if they do allow dying,
* the entire set would have to be dyed at once
* setwide dual dyes would not be supported

In my opinion they should really change the way Dyes work completely.
Having to get the dye again every time you want to dye something is annoying.
Having to purchase some on the mogstation when they are not re-usable is a scam.
Dyes should be made into collectibles.
Make them potentially harder to unlock, but once you have one color, you should be able to use it as many time as you'd like.
That would also be another way to save inventory space.

I wish you didn’t have to but you have to pull it out and put them in sets from your inventory. The only thing it does while still in the dresser is tell you what pieces are part of the set.

One set they overlooked was the Sophist's set.

I knew the outfit's dye would be cleared when putting the outfit together. I was fine with that but I found out that I can't dye the items. ;_; I was so happy about saving space but this is no different then the armoire. unless this can hold dyes its borderline useless.

I'm happy they're experimenting with ways to let us save more glamour items out of our usual inventories.
From a functionality standpoint however, glamour sets in their current form aren't it for me.
I saved a whopping 4 spaces in my dresser by converting my Common Makai Mauler's set since that doesn't have dye channels to begin with.
Everything else I want to either dye with potentially expensive dyes where dyeing on one of the extremely contested glamour plates just isn't good enough or, if it is a set without dye channels, it isn't eligible for set conversion. Or it's items I don't plan to use, which I could convert but honestly at that point I just bin the items and save more space.

The dye is the big issue for me as well… with some of the NPC outfits getting dual dyes, a couple pieces had to be moved from the armoire to the dresser! And I’m guessing they took whatever they use for the armoire to make the outfit setup… so can’t they just both be modified to save dyes?

Overall it’s step in the right direction, but it could be more intuitive… for instance, one of the glam sets you get from the Island has a choice of 2 different tops, drawing a blank on the name, but it's basically a bikini top with a shirt over it that’s either open or tied in a knot. It also has shorts or a bikini bottom. Well apparently the top and bottom I chose aren’t part of the same set, despite literally being the same overall set! So I can’t store those as an outfit.

There’s also quite a few sets where I didn’t bother getting the hat or discarding it, and others where I want to use as expensive dye on one piece, so that keeps me from adding it as an outfit.

Idk, while I’d like to see a system that lets you use anything you’ve received or “unlocked” without the need to store it, I do like the plate system and I’m not sure how that would co-exist. Would I really want to hunt through the icons of every top I’ve unlocked while making a plate? Probably not. Then again, if they would just remove role restrictions on glam, I could save a bunch of space not carrying duplicates of what is essentially the same piece of gear.

Like at the bare minimum the screen that shows you the items that are a part of the set should let you take them out of the dresser from there. Similar to quest turn-ins, where it pops up its own little window instead of making you dig though your whole inventory to find it.

It's something, but the implementation feels incredibly clunky between things like the dye issue, needing to take every piece out of the dresser to assemble the set to put it back in(which costs more prisms), and the fact that there's a fairly long delay between when the game starts scanning for outfit options and when the list actually loads. It feels like the entire system's on the verge of collapse.

I'm happy people are losing their dyes. I would make a hefty penny selling my accumulated jet blacks and pure dyes :P

Jokes aside. I'm happy with this new change. Also got refunded nearly 100 slots and could put there stuff I had at retainers. Also, now I can actually collect PvP trophies gear, so nice sink. Good stuff.

Now Yoshida. Battle gear. Start at least with alliance raids. I would immidietly have half empty dresser :P

Did I understand this feature correctly?

You have to take out items from your glamour dresser and you need the full set
Putting stuff in as a set REMOVES your dyes..but doesn't allow you to die stuff?

Feels like a useless feature from functionality standpoint and it had 'potential' to be good....

Example :
It'd be nice if you had 2 pieces of a set to put it in there, it'd be nice going forward for alliance raid gear (I don't collect the headpieces)
It'd be nice if you could dye stuff and use it, otherwise you might just be burning through expensive dyes if you ever used it

....

Yes. You need the full set, and if it’s a set that has multiple options, you have to choose one, and your individual pieces may not match either set.

Items cannot be dyed individually anymore once they are part of a set, and you can’t dye them before you make the set or they’re gone.

The big plus so far is storage space… in the end, I did get about 40 slots opened up. Could have been more if it wasn’t for the pieces I have to store separately because of the dyes. And of course, it’s only for certain level 1 gear now, mostly glam sets and some of the pvp gear. Interestingly enough, the starter gear for all the races wasn’t included. But the Emperor’s set is! That’ll give you like 7 slots!

Hope for variant sets they'll allow the associated already stored sets to count towards it being complete, particularly nice as they continue to improve it with better UI (formally turning into a log book).

Also adding look model sharing fuzzy searches / dye and augmented associations once the ui handles more like a log book. So I can easily see visual variations of the same model, dye-able, or SFX'd versions. For example if I put in the dye-able artifact armor the normal artifact might show that you can glamour it but wasn't collected. Having the relic / seasonal achievement defaults to unlocking those steps and looks in the log, etc.

WoW does something similar with their log book, where if an item shares a model your log book is really just focusing on the model collected (as that is what is first priority to a glamour log, but it will also be able to tell you that technically you didn't collect Y item and just X item, for those who are super into collectibles).

Dying needs solved of course lol. My thought would be permanent dyes, and glamour plates that can store your dye choices. Prices adjusted for their permanence.

Long ago I had suggested the crystal library, for even smaller memory loads. Essentially all gear could be compressed into content name HQ and NQ materia, so if you wanted to unlock the gear from say a dungeon with 20 items you would bring it 20 or so materia and it would then unlock the whole set for that space. Furthermore you could extract gear from it by bringing it relevant materia. Functioning as a low memory cost RNGesus safety net (because technically if you wanted the bard bow but only got everything but that, once you unlocked the content you could just fabricate the item through aether synthesis).

There's no issue – for as long as we've been able to remove gear from the dresser at all, we've always been able to take things out of the dresser without disrupting any copies of those items on the plates.

You can also take advantage of it to add gear to a plate even while you're still using it as current gear, by putting it in, adding it to the plate and then taking it out to continue using it.
